Are Your Glasses Half-Empty?
(CBS)
Gone are the days when your choice for eyeglass frames began and ended with horn rims.
These days, there are thousands of frame options made of everything from titanium to leather, and ranging in color from black to clear to sky blue.
Since your glasses sit in the middle of your face, it's important to find a pair - or two - that complement your coloring, the shape of your face and your personal style.
The Saturday Early Show asked an expert, Joseph Tallier, vice president of global sales for Samaeyewear, an international chain of eyeglass boutiques, to offer some advice.
Tallier has some basic rules to observe when selecting new frames:
"The notion that particular face shapes are limited to certain styles of eyewear is a thing of the past. A good designer can design virtually any frame style for any shape of face. Proportion is the key.
"Fit is the key to making eyewear look great. The best way to insure a proper fit is to purchase eyewear from skilled professionals.
"Black is a traditional favorite, but people shouldn't be afraid of color. A good rule-of-thumb is to select colors that complement your skin tones and hair color.
"People shouldn't worry too much about what others say is "fashionable" or "in style." Having your own style and feeling good about yourself is what's really fashionable.
"Eyewear is the most important fashion accessory because it sits right in the middle of your face!
"People should own a variety of eyewear to suit their various moods and styles. I don't know any woman who owns only one handbag, or men who own only one tie, but plenty of people make the mistake of buying only one pair of glasses. Varying your eyewear is a fun, fast way to change your look.
"Whether prescription or sunglasses, it's important that people purchase eyewear suited for their particular needs. Sama introduced the concept of "fashion eyewear categories," which include: Day, Evening, Sport, Resort, and Petite."
