GOP Fires Shots From Abroad

By Patrick O'Connor

(The Politico)  Apparently, politics no longer end at the water's edge.

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) took a healthy shot at Democratic leaders Wednesday during a conference call from Baghdad.

"Democrats have invested their political capital all year in failure in Iraq," Boehner said on a conference call shortly after arriving in Baghdad. "I'm not sure they have any place to go. I'm not sure they know."

And he wasn't alone.

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) railed the Democrats for their failure to denounce an ad earlier in the week by MoveOn.org. "They had a moral obligation to the country to denounce the ad," the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee said.

Now, the conference call was with reporters in the U.S., and there weren't any world leaders on the line (at least to my knowledge). But the comments could put Boehner and his colleagues on thin political ice, given their hardline stance earlier this year.
