Girl Found In Her Family's Garage In Small Texas Town After Sexual Assault

(AP)  A 6-year-old girl was found hanged inside her family's garage and had been sexually assaulted before she died, police said Wednesday.

Authorities have made no arrests or named any suspects since Hanna Mack's body was discovered by her mother on Monday. They are saying little about their investigation.

"I will confirm that the hanging and sexual assault were part of this scenario," Navarro County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Cox said.

Cox said several people have been interviewed and no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

"We don't want to do anything that would compromise a successful prosecution of this case," Cox said Wednesday before abruptly ending a brief news conference.

Neighbors in the rural lakeside community in east Texas are frustrated by the silence so far and worry that a predator remains on the loose.

In a letter to the sheriff's department, Navarro County justice of the peace Vicki Gray said an autopsy of the body showed "a multitude of events that together caused the death of this child." No other details were released.

The first-grader's body was found in a garage in Navarro Mills Lake, about 65 miles south of Dallas.

"I'm just concerned about the kids out there," said Harold Hocutt, 75, a neighbor who knows the girl's family. "Little girls. Little boys. It's just something you don't forget. Every time I drive by (Hanna's house), I cry."

Police asked state caseworkers to not say whether Hanna's family had been investigated by child welfare officers, said Marissa Gonzales, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

You can''t really come on here and say that you don''t believe the mother is hurting. No matter if her lack of supervision over the child caused her death that woman is hurting, and even more so if she is the cause. This is just such a terrible thing...I almost burst into tears reading this. This is so horrible. I couldn''t imagine finding my niece or nephew like that, since I don''t have any children, but I know I would just die. That''s not something anyone can get over. I just know in this situation that whoever did this needs to be caught and punished. It''s just kinda sad on the law enforcement part that the culpret isn''t caught yet. And my heart goes out to the family and those who knew and loved this little girl.

I am tired of reading stories like this about the demise of children due mostly to the mother''s inability to properly care for them. I read in the online Corsicana newspaper that the surving children all daughters, with 2 different last names of course. And that this guy was the mom''s boyfriend and not the daddy to any of those girls. What is the matter with some women? Take care of your kids it is your responsibility. God gave us the ability to concieve and bear our young and then we just take them and basically throw them away without a care. Please I don''t want to read any bleeding heart c,r,a,p about how the mom was just trying to survive, she was abused, didn''t get any support from the babies daddies, etc etc etc. Puhhhhhhhhhhhhleeeeeeeze spare me.

Precious_Thi I think you are a very sick individual, and I pray that God has mercy on your soul. You must have evil spirits dwelling on the inside of you, to say that all little girls should be raped and murdered. I am the mother of 2 daughters and the grand-mother of 3 grand-daughters who are precious gifts from God, the same God that created you, I do not hate you, I feel sorry for you, someone must have messed you up really bad.

The hateful comment left by Precious_thi is unacceptable. This website needs to monitor the comments that are left. After reading this article I was deeply saddened. All I had to do was look at my five year old son and I was heartbroken for this little girls mother who had to discover her body this way. I am so glad that this child in in God''''s arms now. I will be praying for her family.

At 7:29 am Precious_thi wrote a comment about little girls deserving to die and how they had no value. From 7:30am until about 9 many of us responded to that comment and even reported those comments. I went back now and the comments have been removed. maybe all of precious comments were removed. I owe you an apology because there is no way for you to have known who those comments really came from now. Klingon reposted the apology part of precious_thi comments but failed to let viewer''s know it was a quote. I am sorry I called you stupid, in the context you must have read Klingon''s remarks, there is no way you could have known that they were responding solely to those words and were just as angry as we were earlier about what was posted. But anyway, the comments attributed to Klingon came from Precious_thi and Klingon was just posting to respond to it and did not use quotation marks, hope this clears this up and everyone can ease off this person.

Just the same olde crimes that will go on as human kind moves up thru the ages from today,to tomorrow. Nothing is shocking or scared..to some. time moves on..I learnt a lesson growing up and that not trusting..that is sad for me as a handicapped older lady.
