Iran's Leader: No Plans For Nuclear Bomb

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Denies Country Is Working Toward Building Nuclear Weapons

Events in development of Iran's nuclear program since it first came to light.

  • Timeline The U.S. And Iran

Key events in once friendly, now contentious relationship between Washington and Tehran.

(AP)  Iran's supreme leader said Sunday his country has no plans to build nuclear weapons, even as the nation's president makes clear that its controversial nuclear energy program itself is not negotiable.

Speaking to an audience of Revolutionary Guards, the elite military unit that answers directly to him, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made a rare direct statement that Iran is not interested in nuclear weapons.

"While the Iranian nation has no atomic bomb and has no plans to create this deadly weapon, it is still a respected nation" for its spiritual and revolutionary values, he told the Guards whose leader he had just replaced.

Iran which has always vigorously defended its right to develop its nuclear program also denies allegations by the United States and other countries that it is looking to develop weapons as well.

Earlier in the day, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made it clear that Iran had no intention of slowing down or stopping its nuclear energy program despite two rounds of sanctions from the U.N. Security Council and increasing pressure from the United States.

"Iranians are a nation of logic and dialogue but it will not negotiate about its rights with anybody," the official news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying. "Enemies of this nation should known that Iran is not about to retreat."

He noted that the recent report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog which applauded Iran for its increased cooperation showed that European nations have a more positive approach to the situation than certain other countries.

"There are only one or two countries that do not understand reality and they think that they can force Iranian nation to back down," Ahmadinejad said, in an apparent reference to the U.S. and Britain.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report in August noted an increased willingness by the Iranians to answer questions after years of stonewalling and was seen as putting the brakes on the push for new sanctions.

According to diplomats, however, that report has displeased the U.S., who are putting pressure on IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei and accuse him of overstepping his authority in dealing with Iran.

The U.S. continues to suspect that Iran is exploiting the agreement with the IAEA as a smoke screen to deflect attention away from its continued defiance of a Security Council ban on uranium enrichment, a potential pathway to nuclear arms.

Iran insists it wants to master the technology only to meet future power needs and argues it is entitled to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty provision giving all pact members the right to develop peaceful programs.

and just so you get it right, here are a few of the 123 surra''s from the koran and what they tell muslims to do

Muslims are encouraged to be wholly occupied (Sura 2:273) with fighting for Allah''s cause.

- Allah will give "a far richer recompense to those who fight for him" (Sura 4:96).

- Regarding infidels (unbelievers), they are the Muslim''s "inveterate enemies" (Sura 4:101). Muslims are to "arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush everywhere" (Sura 9:5) for them. They are to "seize them and put them to death wherever you find them, kill them wherever you find them, seek out the enemies of Islam relentlessly" (Sura 4:90). "Fight them until Islam reigns supreme" (Sura 2:193). "Cut off their heads, and cut off the tips of their fingers" (Sura 8:12).

- If a Muslim does not go to war, Allah will kill him (Sura 9:39). He is to be told, "the heat of war is fierce, but more fierce is the heat of Hell-fire" (Sura 9:81).

- A Muslim must "fight for the cause of Allah with the devotion due to him" (Sura 22:78)

- Muslims must make war on the infidels (unbelievers) who live around them (Sura 9:123).

- Muslims are to be "ruthless to unbelievers" (Sura 48:29).

- A Muslim should "enjoy the good things" he has gained by fighting (Sura 8:69).

- A Muslim can kill any person he wishes if it be a "just cause" (Sura 6:152).

-Know that paradise is under the shades of swords. Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 4 p55

I guess its easier for you to ignore half of the picture then it is to tell the whole truth.

Meanwhile, Hitler called the Grand Mufti on advice on how to slaughter the Jews, both of them saw thier race as the sumpreme race, as did both of them desire the same ends, the total destruction of jews who would not submit to thier authority....I see you make the same excuses the muslims do about the millions they have slaughtered. How can anyone respect that...only a half wit would fall for the classic lies that let them be excused for it. It it were nationalism, or patriotism, tell us this, why is it always the Islamic Armies killing only non muslims? Wake up.

They have no plans for a bomb because they don''t know how to finish what they have started. As soon as they figure out how to finish the puzzle they will fire it at us or Israel. We must keep a foot hold in the Middle East until everyone chills out.

pwrslm--Of course, they preferred the Germans--they were occuppied by the Allies, twit! Behind all of the praise for Ghandi and his non-violence, stood an Indian Army that was heavily influenced by an Indian patriot who sided with the Axis as well--why?--because India was part of the British Empire.

As to the Armenian massacre, that was less a religious feelings as it was on national feelings. Even today, the Turks are rather relaxed in their Islamic practices. Mass murder is in no way the sole province of the Islamists...as the, perhaps, 8 million dead Congolese could testify somewhere in the hereafter. That most ''Christian'' king, Leopold of Belgium made the Congo his personal domaine and with murder, torture, slavery and rapine reduced the population by half--Even Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot must doff their caps at the work of this Christian monarch...Now, do you wish to condemn all of Christendom for these crimes? Or, the crimes of Hitler? Probably not, but you and your ilk--like Lars008 and singingrick-- wish to paint Islam as some how the font of all evil and intolerance.

Correct me, if I am wrong, but did not two pandemics of world slaughter have their start, not in the Islamic world, but in the heart of Christian Europe? Imbeciles like yourself prefer to ignore this, because all you sell is hatred against people that your evil masters want to plunder so as to justify your the War Pigs whose vile ideology you embrace.

Bush just wants an excuse to bomb Iran. If Iran is willing to undergo inspections, it hurts his plan to try and force the issue before the security consul.

Bush has been looking for a reason that would go over with the American people to start a war with Iran and he has not been able to find one. He is trying to force the issue.

Mohamed ElBaradei has been immune to US pressure and continues to do his job as he sees fit. Bush does not like that and has been trying to remove him for years without success.

Iran has cut him off at the knees by allowing more inspections.

Our Prophet commanded us to fight the kaafirs when we are able and to attack them in their homelands and to give them three choices before we enter their lands: either they become Muslim and be like us, sharing our rights and duties; or they pay the jizyah (poll tax) and feel themselves subdued; or they fight, in which case their wealth, women, children and homes become permissible as booty for the Muslims.

What a load of monkey droppings!!

The Muslims sided with the Germans because the Germans had guns, Hitler wanted to befriend the muslims because he absolutely adored the way the Muslims massacred 1.5 million Armenians and the world didnt pay attention to it. He used them to aid his slaughter of the Jews and Gypsies.

Next time you post your clueless rendition of events, tell the whole truth.

The muslims really didnt have a choice in the matter, they helped Hitler for power, nothing else. The remnants of the Ottoman Empire is what Hitler allied with, from Morrocco to Serbia.

SO, if anything he stated were true, then you wouldnt have the interest to find out, so noted. The real issue is that you dont have any foundation to disprove what he posts, so your void in substance gives rise to his legitimacy.

Reality demands substance, if you didnt notice.

Truely, one should not listen to people who deal in absolutes. The existence of God has been endorsed by billions of people who are currently alive, and billions more who are not over the last several thousand years. RDS doesnt even give the issue a fair shake, let alone, does he rise to credibility.

At least you''re consistent just like your Fuhrer Bush - you never have an original thought. Just the same old rhetoric over and over again.
Why don''t you post this *** on Faux Noise so the rest of your ilk can enjoy your stupidity?

As disgusting as it is, I have to believe the Iranian Supreme Leader more than I trust America''s Supreme Leader. Not that I think he''s trustworthy - it''s that I think Bush is the end-all of our once great nation.

Khamenei has never done anything wrong to our country, he''s never launched a "pre-emptive war" against anyone, he''s not stealing my tax money to funnel it into the industrial military complex, and he''s never lied to me as an American citizen.

Unlike Bush.

The reason that so many Moslems sided with the Germans was that Allied nations had mandated and occupied them. Even Zionist elements of the Jabotinsky faction whose ideological successors govern Israel treated with the Nazis on launching a rebellion against the British in Palestine in the Middle of World War II.

You forget the popularity of fascism and Nazism throughout Latin America...Thomas Lamont, the Morgan partner had a picture of Benito Mussolini in his office...the Nazis and Italian Fascists provided international capital with the arms and manpower to defeat the Republicans in Spain--who were sabotaged by the Stalinists. Find and read Franco''s words on the death of A. Hitler.

Look at how the Nazi braintrust spread like a poison around the capitalist world, back to its source, with the conivance of US intelligence and the Vatican. Look at who bankrolled and supported the Nazis... Montague Norman, head of the Bank of England...the Bush family and financial interests around them. We can even look to the Weimar Republic and see DuPont/Remington arms and munitions flowing to the right-wing proto-fascist elements.

Yet, with all of this, who gets the finger pointed at them...the freakin'' impotent Grand Mufti...talk about a goat...

SgtRDS you could very well be right, but the beauty of this is that as yet it is a free country, and if these people are wrong they have nothing to loose their eternity is assured, but when you die if you are wrong??????

You are dead right, an attack on Iran will cause world war three, and even if we don''t attack, Iran is getting ready to do it anyway..

USAyesterday, Sadly, each ideology seems to only be defined by those who have the control of a given country at the time.

For example:

Bush is not a Conservative, in the classical sense.
You speak (write) a lot of sense.. anyone can say that they are a Christian, gets the Christian votes eh..
