Iran's Leader: No Plans For Nuclear Bomb

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Denies Country Is Working Toward Building Nuclear Weapons

Events in development of Iran's nuclear program since it first came to light.

  • Timeline The U.S. And Iran

Key events in once friendly, now contentious relationship between Washington and Tehran.

(AP)  Iran's supreme leader said Sunday his country has no plans to build nuclear weapons, even as the nation's president makes clear that its controversial nuclear energy program itself is not negotiable.

Speaking to an audience of Revolutionary Guards, the elite military unit that answers directly to him, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made a rare direct statement that Iran is not interested in nuclear weapons.

"While the Iranian nation has no atomic bomb and has no plans to create this deadly weapon, it is still a respected nation" for its spiritual and revolutionary values, he told the Guards whose leader he had just replaced.

Iran which has always vigorously defended its right to develop its nuclear program also denies allegations by the United States and other countries that it is looking to develop weapons as well.

Earlier in the day, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made it clear that Iran had no intention of slowing down or stopping its nuclear energy program despite two rounds of sanctions from the U.N. Security Council and increasing pressure from the United States.

"Iranians are a nation of logic and dialogue but it will not negotiate about its rights with anybody," the official news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying. "Enemies of this nation should known that Iran is not about to retreat."

He noted that the recent report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog which applauded Iran for its increased cooperation showed that European nations have a more positive approach to the situation than certain other countries.

"There are only one or two countries that do not understand reality and they think that they can force Iranian nation to back down," Ahmadinejad said, in an apparent reference to the U.S. and Britain.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report in August noted an increased willingness by the Iranians to answer questions after years of stonewalling and was seen as putting the brakes on the push for new sanctions.

According to diplomats, however, that report has displeased the U.S., who are putting pressure on IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei and accuse him of overstepping his authority in dealing with Iran.

The U.S. continues to suspect that Iran is exploiting the agreement with the IAEA as a smoke screen to deflect attention away from its continued defiance of a Security Council ban on uranium enrichment, a potential pathway to nuclear arms.

Iran insists it wants to master the technology only to meet future power needs and argues it is entitled to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty provision giving all pact members the right to develop peaceful programs.

I''d believe this guy as much as I''d believe Hitler or the Democrats, which simply is NOT AT ALL.

Iranian forces have been legitimately cited as being involved in terrorist actions in Iraq, and especially against our forces despite what Pelosi or Reid, our "great military leaders" have said. It is time to cut the snake''s head off, which by the way is something that should have been done in 1979 if we had a President back then instead of a sniveling cowardly anti-Semitic and Racist bigot and Hoody Doody (insult to Hoody Doody) lookalike Jimmy Carter.

Who, by the way, was and is a Democrat. Figures.
He allowed the betrayal of the Shah and the seizing of our people and did NOTHING. A future Democratic President would wait till Iran nuked Tel Aviv or New York to maybe do something about it.

With the current crop of Non-Serving, MoveOn paid Cowards running for President on the Democratic side, Maybe NOT.

I don''t take what this guy says on faith either. Iran should cooperate fully with the IAEA and they won''t have to worry about denying the verifiable.

However, Israel and the U.S. shouldn''t be intimating plans to attack their uranium faciliites with "tactical" nuclear weapons unless we have hard evidence of a nuke program.
Right now the U.S. and Israel are the only powers in the region with nuclear weapons to threaten others with and if we launch a nuclear attack without a nuclear provocation we will be seen by the entire world as the clear outlaw aggressor.

We should work diplomatically with other nations to pressure them into IAEA compliance. That''s what we were initially successful at doing to Sadaam until Bush decided to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

Regarding the Iranian hostage crisis, since you brought it up, it was the republicans who went to Paris and made a deal to give this regime arms if they held our hostages until inaguration day. Reagan & Bush commited treason in exchange for power.

Iran would be a fool NOT to want nuclear weapons. OF coure they want them for the following reason:

US to Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc. etc.: "we''re gonna kick your a$$es."

US to North Korea: "Mr. Kim Il Jong sir, please may we sent you a lot of food and petroleum and kiss your fuzzy A$$?"

Get real. Can''t really blame them, can ya?

The one halmark of Islam is that in defense of the goal they have, it is not a sin to lie about them to the enemy.

This is nothing but showboating for the public around the world so they can put off the inevitable. The longer they milk the UN, the more advanced thier Nuclear research gets.

First you compare Hitler and the Democrats. Everyone knows that Bush is the spitting political image of Hitler. From suspending parts of the Constitution, to ignoring other parts of it, and invading Iraq with unprovoked aggression in much the same way that Hitler invaded Poland. No difference there really.

What does "legitimately cited" mean? Does that mean proven without a doubt, or is that more of Bush''s fabricated intelligence? Or is that more of the fabricated intelligence provided to us from Israel - Iran''s mortal enemy?

Who EVER called Pelosi or Reid a military leader?

You''re saying that we should have invaded Iran in 1979? Obviously you feel that way because of the great success we''re having in Iraq - right? By the way, if "the snake''s head" needed to be cut off, why did Reagan and Bush the Elder sell / give them MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH, of weapons and ammo? Apparently the republicans think "the snake''s head" was an ally - no? But then again we were selling weapons and ammo to both sides in the Iran-Iraq war. Guess Reagan couldn''t make up his mind which American hating Islamic nation he hated more. (He must have preferred Iraq - remember the picture of Saddam and Rumsfeld smiling and shaking hands?)

What was supposed to be done when the Shah was over thrown? Invade? Nuke?

Non-serving cowards? You mean like "Five Deferment Cheney"? Or "AWOL George"? Or "Run and Hide Rumsfeld"?

The same liars who gave us the Stupid Peoples'' War in Afghanistan and Iraq are trying to sell an expansion of it by attacking Iran.

Iran has lived up to its obligations under the non-proliferation treaties. It has not fought a war of aggression since the Islamic Revolution toppled the Shah and his US and Israeli trained murderers, SAVAK.

The in-bed media of the US Propaganda Machine has tried to sell Iranian responsibility for the attacks of the freedom fighters on occupation forces in the past. On one memorable occasion one PR-flak was braying that only Iran could produce the IEDs that have made life so miserable and dangerous for our soldiers, while another--obviously outside the loop--was announcing the capture of a bomb-making lab in Iraq that was making these very same IEDs.

The Occupation later unveiled weapons they claimed came from Iran...which turned out to be of Eastern European origin.

The liars who sold America the war for Oil, Israel and Opium are trying to expand their bloody swath through south Asia--don''t buy into their lies. Cheney has ordered the in-bed media to ''surge'' their fear-mongering aimed at Iran. Spit in this War Pig''s face!!

I don''t care what kind of country Israel is, but the US is a Capitalist Republic. Not a Socialist Democracy, and not an Imperailist Oligarchy. You can''t convince the most people to do this or that or convince the top wealthy. There is no conscience or anything in the Constituion that allows the US to invade Iran. If the majority or wealthy just plain don''t like you, then they can burn your house down? You want to live that way? Then be prepared for "you''re it" to be you.

Islamists love ignorance, and what you posted was truely ignorant.

This is the reason they want nukes.

According to the Shiite Muslim tradition, of which Ahmadinejad is a strong follower, the 12th imam, or the so-called "hidden" Imam Mahdi, has miraculously been kept alive since his disappearance in 874 AD. The revered Imam is set to return at a time of great global chaos, war and bloodshed, after which an era of Islamic justice will be ushered in. Some believe that Imam Mahdi will be returning some time this August, also the time some military experts predict that Iran will be ready to construct its first nuclear weapon. Also important to note is that fact that August 22 of the current year also corresponds with the Islamic date of Rajab 28. This day is the same day on which the great Saladin conquered and entered Jerusalem, further evidence of Ahmadinejad''s belief in the regional importance of the date chosen by him to report to the West.

Iran''s Islamic regime is determined to try to bring about the end of the world and it is likely to begin in Jerusalem:

... the Night Journey has become firmly embedded in the Islamic consciousness, such that Muslims today celebrate it as one of the central events of Muhammad''s life. And now, according to Ghadry, Ahmadinejad is planning an illumination of the night sky over Jerusalem to rival the one that greeted the Prophet of Islam on his journey. What the Iranian President, he says, is "promising the world by August 22 is the light in the sky over the Aqsa Mosque that took place the night before. That is his answer to the package of incentives the international community offered Iran on June 6."

Certainly a nuclear attack on Jerusalem or even an all-out conventional assault against Israel by Iran would be consistent with Ahmadinejad''s oft-repeated denials of Israel''s right to exist and recent predictions that its demise was at hand. He hinted at the use of nuclear weapons in his phrasing when he said that Israel "pushed the button of its own destruction" by finally retaliating against Hizballah''s relentless rocket barrage from south Lebanon.

That means to bring the world to its knee''s, subjugate it for a false god they call allah(and mohammad is his prophet). I call him satan, and muslims are servants of the devil.

Yes, they already told us. Its morons who dont listen that the clueless ones.

The mainstream Democratic Party is as complicit in the Stupid People''s War as the mainstream Republican Party--one big fascist mainstream of steaming sewage...Hillary, Edwards, Thompson, Obama, Giuliani, Romney...the stink is as bad as it was in the last presidential election when the Fool Vote split almost evenly between War Pig Kerry and War Pig Bush.

Obama''s backing of Lieberman in his dust-off with the anti-Iraq war Morgan banker in the Connecticutt Senate race says all that needs be said about the anti-war nature of the mainstream Democratic party.

If you are anti-war, against funding a global empire for Anglo-American capital and a New World Order police state, then you have three choices for president at this point--Paul, Kucinich or Gravel. If not, just get yourself a brown shirt that won''t be taxed off your back and learn to do the Goosestep Waddle with America''s porcine Neo-Scum leadership.

We are Capitalist which means for the US to compete to make the best stuff. See if the Chinese don''t like you, they can put lead paint on your toys...lol. Israel is mainly a Socialist Democracy as are many EU Nations. China is now a Capitalist Oligachy. Venezuela is a Socialist Dictatorship. The US is a Capitalist Republic. We are supposed to hate Democracy.

http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html

For example, in 1981, the Iranian representative to the United Nations, Said Rajaie-Khorassani, articulated the position of his country regarding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by saying that the UDHR was "a secular understanding of the Judeo-Christian tradition", which could not be implemented by Muslims without trespassing the Islamic law.

But the accepted assumption in India is that most of India''s Muslims were converted to Islam through the sword. Meaning the Indians were given an option between death or adopting Islam. The third option was getting examined in Islam religion along with heavy taxes- Jeziya (poll tax) and Kharaj (property tax).

Iran would be a fool NOT to want nuclear weapons. OF coure they want them for the following reason:

US to Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc. etc.: "we''''re gonna kick your a$$es."

US to North Korea: "Mr. Kim Il Jong sir, please may we sent you a lot of food and petroleum and kiss your fuzzy A$$?"

Get real. Can''''t really blame them, can ya?

Theres a big difference between what Irans leaders say and what they actually do. These terrorists ayatollahs supplyied hesbollah with 20.000 rockets to launch into Israel...

(they attacked out allies that we have defense treaties with)

Its true. Irans leadership say what they actually want to do, and Isreals leaders will do what they have to, and not say a thing.

By blaming the Government for our actions, those who pushed this "Blair''s bombs" line did our propaganda work for us.
More important, they also helped to draw away any critical examination from the real engine of our violence: Islamic theology.

Our Prophet commanded us to fight the kaafirs when we are able and to attack them in their homelands and to give them three choices before we enter their lands: either they become Muslim and be like us, sharing our rights and duties; or they pay the jizyah (poll tax) and feel themselves subdued; or they fight, in which case their wealth, women, children and homes become permissible as booty for the Muslims.

The US has no reason to attack Iran. None. You just don''t like them? They have Jews living there. They aren''t in camps. Ahmadinejad just had a new Temple built in Tehran. Israel sold the Ayatollah arms. You are back stabbing double crossers and crossdressers...lol. Ok, Iran isn''t the greatest, but right now they are "the good guys". Either they have improved or you have sunk to a new low. It''s not a Democracy bias, it''s a sociolgical observation. Which is useless in a mob rule Democracy.

Not that I care to agree with you, meathead, but I think Iran is making every effort to secure nuclear weapons at any cost, despite their protestations to the contrary. Wasn''t that your point? Or have you forgotten?

My original post said that Iran wants nuclear weapons to get some respect from the US, the difference being the way Bushit relates to the Iranians vs. the way he relates to the North Koreans, much more deferential shall we say.

Guess you''re too stupid to grasp the concept.

I remember when the Taliban representatives were invited to speak to the US congress and lobby for recognition as an islamic country, all this while they were stoning women to death, practicing terrorism etc..... all this off course sponsored by Bin laden''s friend, the Bush family and his party of closet queers. I also happen to remember when Jimmy Carter wanted to rescue the American hostages from Iran and the Republicans didn''t support the initiative, instead they were happy when Reagan supplied the iranians with weapons in exchange for the hostages. Now thats a stand, what a leader!! I also remember when the USS Cole was attacked and Clinton responded, in spite of the Republicans trying to distract him with their wagging the dog excuse.....

It is Iran''s stated policy to let off their first nuke in Israel, this by their touted moderate Khamenei who used to be un power. It''s their stated policy to destroy the US, they were preaching all of this during the Clinton years.

It was Carter stupidity that got hostages taken in Iran in the first place. Clinton did squat after the Cole, Kohbar Towers and two Embassy bombings in Africa, which planet are you living on? Bin Laden boasted how the US will not fight back all through the 1990s.
