Comedy Group Breaches Security For Bush

Australian Troupe Rolls Through 2 Security Checkpoints, With One Member Dressed Like Bin Laden

President Bush visits Australia to attend Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

(CBS/AP)  Members of an Australian TV comedy show, one dressed as Osama bin Laden, drove through two security checkpoints Thursday before being stopped near the Sydney hotel where President Bush is staying during a summit of leaders from Pacific Rim countries.

The stunt embarrassed Sydney police who have imposed the tightest security measures in city history for this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino had few details on the incident, but Australian press reported that 11 members of the comedy troupe "The Chaser's War on Everything" had been charged with entering a restricted area.

The group staged a faux motorcade, pretending to be the delegation of Canada with one of the comedians dressed as bin Laden, and made it past two police checkpoints before being stopped, reported The Hill.

Cast members hired two motorcycles and three large cars on which they put Canadian flags. Police waved the motorcade through two checkpoints before pulling it over near the Intercontinental Hotel where Mr. Bush is staying.

Cast member Chas Licciardello got out of the car dressed in a white tunic and cap and wearing a long fake Osama bin Laden-style beard.

"No particular reason we chose Canada," cast member Chris Taylor was quoted as saying on the Sydney Morning Herald Web site. "We just thought they'd be a country who the cops wouldn't scrutinize too closely, and who feasibly would only have three cars in their motorcade - as opposed to the 20 or so gas guzzlers that Bush has brought with him."

Mr. Bush is a frequent target of "the Chaser," as are Australian politicians. Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the stunt proved security was working.

Mr. Bush had expressed regret that security measures taken to protect the conference had burdened Australians.

"It’s unfortunate that security climates were as such, but, as soon as we get out of town, then Sydney will return to normal, hopefully," Perino said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bush and Chinese President Hu Jintao, leaders of two of the world's worst polluting nations, called Thursday for greater international cooperation in tackling climate change without stifling economic growth.

Mr. Bush also was to push for expanded trade with Pacific Rim nations and appeal for help in getting stalled global trade talks going again. He was laying out his views on the environment, energy security and the economic costs of terrorism in a speech to business leaders from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Climate change was high on the agenda of the U.S. and Chinese presidents in a 90-minute meeting and aides said it would be an important aspect of Mr. Bush's speech. The president also was to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, among heads of state here for the annual meeting of the 21-nation economic gathering.

Mr. Bush has been criticized by environmentalists and others for his opposition to the 1997 Kyoto treaty against global warming, and China has long been slammed for the huge amounts of greenhouse gases its power plants and industries pump into the atmosphere. The fact that neither China nor India, another major global polluter, was covered by Kyoto was one reason Bush has opposed it.

But both leaders seemed to be generally in agreement on the subject.

"We believe that the issue of climate change bears on the welfare of the whole humanity and sustainable development of the whole world," Hu told reporters after his meeting with Mr. Bush. "And this issue should be appropriately tackled through stronger international cooperation."

Climate control has been designated a top agenda item for this year's APEC meeting.

"We talked about climate change and our desire to work together on climate change," Mr. Bush said.

Moonbats have always considered the war on terror a ''joke'' - nothing new here.

And nothing, short of being killed by a terrorist themselves, will pull the wild-eyed barking moonbats from their deluded daydreams.

One_American,

Re: "Moonbats have always considered the war on terror a "joke"

And indeed it is. The War On Terror (TWOT) is a fools errand, and as nonsensical as a moronic and meaningless term such as "moonbat".

You see, "terror" is an emotion, not an enemy. We have about as much chance of ever defeating "terror", as we do of defeating "sadness", which is none.

But wait...did you mean the war on "terrorism"? This is also the goal of an idiot. You see, "terrorism" is not an enemy, so there is no chance of ever "defeating" it. "Terrorism" is a "tactic" used by people who feel desperate and voiceless, and you can no more defeat a "tactic" than you can efeat an "idea".

How do we reduce the threat of "terrorism"? The best way, by far, is to stop participating in it, such as by ending the U.S. mass-murder/torture crusades in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example.

The next most likely method of reducing "terrorism" is by addressing LEGITIMATE grievances of those who may turn to this extreme tactic, thereby reducing the pool of people that may consider adopting it.

Lastly, we can prevent individual and specific acts of terrorism, through the use of good police work, just like we always have.

I forgot a very important method of reducing "terrorism", which is to cut funding for it, such as by eliminating publicly funded welfare payments to the failing, rogue-terror-State of Israel, for example.

At any rate, this very funny stunt in Australia, demonstrates that the collective approach of the Bush regime and the Australians, is a pathetic joke! But the main intent of waging an idiots'' war on "terror", is to create a climate of perpetual war, in my opinion, so from this vantage point, it is a huge success!

What I find to be really funny is that George can not go anywhere without so much security that nothing can be accomplished. That says something about his faux war on terror. It is a bumper sticker nothing more. FeelFree1 your words are true to the point but I have learned that the only way to deal with the wing nuts is to yell right back at them.

You see they are like children you can not reason with them their minds are not fully developed. So with children you must eithter speak very loud and with anger or you must spank them. In the case of the wing nuts and from what we have seen in the last year they would enjoy a spanking so I would say yell at them and tell them that you will use a bat on them that might work. LOL....

An Australian comedy show? I wonder if it contains alot of that "British (aka, not funny) humor", sort of like the stuff on the left-wing NPR weekend shows.

It figures that the entertainment industry would attempt to make a joke about the war on terror. Those liberal weirdos need to be institutionalized.

People like FeelFree1, live in a fantasy world of government perpetrated conspiracies, this sadly is the only way for these people to make sense of there imaginary world. This sad existance and dedication to there brothers philosophy of jihad, is nothing more than an attempt to destroy America along with other freedom loving democracies throughout the world. Lucky for us only a small minority of idiots believe there lies and rhetoric. Eventually there blather will be as irrellivant as they are now becoming due to the vitriol and hate they spew. Even the clear thinking liberals understand the worlds problems cannot be blamed on one man as in Bush. If not for radical Islam, there would be no wars in this modern world, and that is one truth never mentioned in these posts.

It''s a sad day when others take terrorism lightly. It is discouraging and dissappointing that even as joke a country can be disrupted. How unfortuneate, and though in some eyes Bush is nothing more than a "war-monger" who messed up the USA, when in fact, it is almost almost the complete opposite. His popularity today may be wanning, but what he has done to start the process of security within our country will be remembered well.

Too bad it wasn''t the real bin Laden.

Poor Australia. So much for their security.

What''s funniest about this is that the tighter Bush tries to make his security, the looser it gets. I wonder if it ever occurred to his security detail to actually consult with the Australians.

Can anyone remember when the last time was that this idiot did ANYTHING right?

mike71067 ... do you know why it is not funny to you... because you are not smart enough to get the homour... see British, Australian homour is very satirical.. the joke is more the though behind it... what it represents or the collective meaning behind it...

Americans tend to like straight forward simplistic homour... don''t actually have to think to much about to get the punch line...

As FeelFree1 says the idea of a "war on terror" is so absurd that anyone with brains starts chuckling at the phrase itself. It''s even more amusing when the morons start getting offended when made fun of and saying "NO! this is serious! shutup! stop laughing at me!"

No batmoons (or whatever the anti-moonbats are supposed to be called) this is very funny. And you are part of the joke.

Laughter may be the cure for terror. We know war is useless.

jack3213 I disagree, he may have placed more attention on security in this country but security will not be what he is remembered for. Most people in this country will remember him as a president that has spent billions in Iraq and drove the national debt to an all time high. The economy is beginning to decline right behind the housing market. No matter where you look the good things, which mind you are few and far between, will and are being overshadowed by the mistakes that this administration has made.

Aside from one phoney video, there is no evidence that Osama was involved in any way with the attacks of 9/11/01. He is not even wanted by the FBI for these events, because they have "no hard evidence" of his involvement.
