(CBS)  This is a great time of year in many parts of the country to tackle outdoor painting projects.

They're among the most common remodeling jobs do-it-yourselfers take on, but some are more difficult than others.

On The Early Show Wednesday, home improvement guru Danny Lipford, host of "Today's Homeowner," offered advice to help you brush up on painting wood, wrought iron, masonry and concrete, metal, and plastic.

He says many of his tips could apply to indoor painting, as well.

Lipford was making his hundredth appearance on the show!

On his Web site, Lipford says each surface requires "its own unique method to ensure success" when you're painting it.

He adds that you should, "Be sure to read the directions for any of (the specialty paints her mentions), paying close attention to recommended weather conditions, proper ventilation and application options."
