Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt Confirmed

(CBS/AP)  According to the entertainment news show "Extra," actor Owen Wilson tried to commit suicide Sunday.

"Extra" obtained the Calls for Service report from the Santa Monica Police Department, which shows the reason for the 911 call from Wilson's house to be a suicide attempt.

He was hospitalized in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

No further comments were expected, she said.

The actor was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was transferred there from St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.

It was not known why he was hospitalized, but Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday that the department responded to a call that involved the 38-year-old actor.

The chief would not comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.

A neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor's gated house Sunday around noon, The Associated Press reported.

"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house," said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street from the actor.

According to "Entertainment Tonight," Wilson was later brought to the Beverly Hills' Cedars-Sinai Hospital where he detoxed. The show also reported that brother Luke Wilson was spotted leaving Cedars-Sinai on Sunday night with their brother, Andrew. People magazine said Owen's parents also visited.

Wilson, who recently broke up with actress Kate Hudson, was nominated for an Oscar for "The Royal Tenebaums" screenplay. He has starred in many box-office blockbusters such as "Wedding Crashers," "Zoolander" and the thriller "Behind Enemy Lines" with Gene Hackman.

Most recently, he starred in "Night at the Museum" with Ben Stiller.

It was unknown if Wilson's hospitalization would affect his appearance opposite Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy "Marley & Me."

A Fox spokesman told the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety that "it's a totally inappropriate question at this time" whether he would appear in the movie.

Wilson's hospitalization could also keep him from helping to promote "The Darjeeling Limited," in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The Fox Searchlight film was to be released next month.

Paramount also had a Wilson film due out in March: the Judd Apatow-produced "Drillbit Taylor."

Hang in there Owen! You can beat this. You are a talented person with lots of joy to bring to others. As once said by an ex president, " when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." Good luck Owen!

Owen I wish you the best in recovery. I don''t know what or how you tried to take your life, but speaking from personal expierence,it''s a big cry for help, when a person feels there''s no other way to solve the problems they are having.

You''ve made me laugh so hard from your movies and I pray for you to laugh once again. I also pray Luke will be there by yourside to help you through this time of need as well as your friends and family.

Maybe it''s time to take a look at where your going with your life and make some important decisions. It''s going to be hard for the next few days or even weeks, but believe me things can turn around for the good.

Heck if I could be there,I would listen with an open ear,but I wouldn''t tell you, that you have to do this and that to make you feel better about yourself, that you have to do on your own.

God Bless You Owen

Be serious!

So-called celebrities who CRAVE media attention MUST be prepared to accept the exposure (of all kinds)that they get.

Better to suggest to this sick guy and others to LAY OFF THE DRUGS!

DRUGS DAMAGE BRAINS!

And in the end, the drugs make the drug head even worse off, even to the point of gross self-destruction.

"When your brain is not functioning right, you have all kinds of irrational thoughts. And it is very hard for someone who is rational to understand someone who is in the throws of serious mental illness.

Well said about the brain ''not functioning right''; but it IS and HAS TO BE the rational/healthy that is better able to understand and fix a sick brain.

A person who has a sick brain or is ignorant of how bodies work will not appreciate that the brain is just another organ of the body, which can go bad, and then gives rise to strange behaviors such as suicide, etc.

I''m not sure how you can say there were many negative comments. most of the posts seem pretty supportive to me. true, one person said he should have killed himself. and, i said he must not have actually wanted to die and should have found a better way to deal with his situation. obviously he was depressed. my point was that alcohol, if involved was making the depression and his judgement worse. my comments are in light that having to publicly live with an attempted suicide isnt going to be the easiest thing. especially if your already depressed. everyone else said god bless and best wishes.

I always am moved and saddened when I read about someone attempting suicide, because I know that suicide is a symptom of depression. As the police officer said and the law Mr. Wilson has a right to privacy, particularly his medical condition is protected by HIPPA and therefore the media does not have the right to inquire and post that information they acquired-I hope Mr. Wilson sues the media company that made his right to privacy public.

God be with you Owen. And to all of the mean spirited and judgemental posts, your turn to be judged is coming and God help you when it gets here.

sucks. honestly, i think he didnt want to die so much as express his unhappiness in a dramtic way. i figure alcohol played a major role. its often a cause of attention getting drama. too drunk, to sad, to self-obssesed. pretty sure it will leave a mark. anyway, he will be more depressed after all this has time to trickle thru the media. attempted suicide is a bad call, unless your crying for attention, make sure you manage to kill yourself. otherwise, your going to deal with every kind of reaction, from "you poor dear" to "your a ***". i dont think he''s a ***, i think he''s hung over and feeling stupid right about now. honestly, all the best to him though.
