"Blades Of Glory" Comes To DVD

Figure Skating Comedy Is One Of Many Will Ferrell Classics

(CBS)  Since leaving "Saturday Night Live" in 2002, Will Ferrell has become one of Hollywood's reigning kings of comedy. His latest film, "Blades of Glory," makes its way to video stores today.

The Early Show entertainment contributor and People magazine assistant managing editor Jess Cagle says the figure skating comedy follows a long standing Ferrell tradition: the comedy comes first, no matter how silly he looks doing it.

With his over the top role in "Zoolander" movie audiences first took notice and fell in love with him. But his first post "SNL" movie role as "Frank the Tank" in "Old School" made Ferrell a certified movie star.

He followed that with his biggest hit to date. In "Elf" Ferrell plays a man raised on the North Pole, who comes to New York searching for his real family.

And a year later he introduced the world to "Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy."

And NASCAR racing will never be the same after "Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

In "Blades of Glory" Ferrell plays figure skater Chazz Michael Murray, who main completion is a younger skater played by Jon Heder.

"We have a fist fight. We tie for the gold medal. We don't like each other, we have a fist fight on the medals stand, and get kicked out of the sport," Ferrell said. "Lifetime ban - only to find a loophole."

That loophole allowed them to become a skating pairs team. Preparing for the roles instantly bonded Ferrell and Heder.

"We both had to learn skating," Heder said. "So it was kind of this weird experience where, OK, we met each other, but it was also, like, 'Oh my gosh, what did we get ourselves into? This is so hard.' "

The film became Ferrell's latest hundred million dollar hit. The new DVD has bonus laughs from deleted scenes, a gag reel, and behind the scenes footage.

Ferrell stars in "Semipro," a movie about basketball, which comes out next year.
