Officers found the bodies Sunday evening after a relative called police to check on a family member's welfare at the Jonestown area home, Travis County Sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade said.
He did not release the identities, ages or genders of the dead. Medical examiners were working Monday on positively identifying each of the victims and on pinpointing the causes of death, Wade said.
Sheriff's investigators assisted the Jonestown Police Department and obtained a search warrant to enter the house late Sunday, Wade said. The people inside were pronounced dead about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Meanwhile, investigators said they were eyeing as a potential suspect a man wanted in connection with the shooting of a bartender Friday night in nearby Marble Falls.
"We're looking at him as a possible suspect in this one," Wade said Monday.
The American-Statesman newspaper identifies the suspect as Paul Devoe III.
Detectives stayed at the home into Monday morning collecting evidence as they looked for links between the two crimes, Wade said.
A faded white 2001 model Saturn station wagon was missing from the home where the bodies were found, officers said. The car is registered to Paula Griffith; neighbors identify the owner of the home as Griffith, 46, who lived there with her teenage daughter.
"Poor, poor Paula," neighbor Dave McCollough told the newspaper.
Wade described the area as "a subdivision with large lots, lot of trees, in the hills between Lago Vista and Jonestown. It's got some high-dollar houses up in here. It's all houses in among the cedar trees of northwestern Travis County."

- Hey, I thought this story was about a current homocide in Texas. At least four people are dead and all you guys can do is brag or complain about Vietnam? I have nothing but respect and high regard for real Vietnam vets, but what does Vietnam have to do with Texas in 2007? If the guy was a vet then he''s another vet that the system has failed, but what about the victims? How does the slaying a 46 year old woman turn into posts about Vietnam? Keep coming back, it works!

- Never mind Dan''s single-minded gun posts or Texas pro or con or whether or not psychotic killers deserve our sympathy, the article ( which needs to be updated ) concerns a vicious self-serving murderer who killed six people before he was caught, period.

- You two Vietnam vets commenting on here don''t really need to concern yourselves about our so-called Texas "family values". Be assured that the suspected animal they picked up, Paul Devoe, will get a fair trial in Austin, then be given a just and harsh (and hopefully final) sentence if he is foung guilty of the murders.
If you guys don''t live in Texas, then most of us really don''t care about your warped opinions of how we do things down here.
And if you DO live in Texas, then you guys must really be miserable here and are invited to leave at any time.
P.S.- Thankyou for your service to this country! I just wish more could have been done to help the two of you. - Reply to this comment
- excuse me commentsrus but my husband happens to be a marine and he, like a majority of our countries soldiers, CAN and DOES "think for himslef". you have a right to your opinion, yes, but think about the people who protect that right every day, and the people who are the sole reason you yourself are not overseas right now. and im surprised alot more people havent spoken up about your comment, because i will not sit back while you disrespect the people who defend your right to complain.

*What if the dangerous criminal IS your loved one? We act as if there is always a boogeyman out there when most women are killed by a loved one and about half of all men.*
I just pointed out that your *statistic* was BS, that although many women may be killed by someone they know, it does not mean that a) that person was a *loved one* or b) that the woman voluntarily let the killer in.
Men suddenly killing their woman *out of the blue* in a seemingly loving relationship appears to not be the norm. I dare say that women actually killed by a husband/BF are generally in a violent relationship well before the event. And for those women, get the h*ll out of the relationship, THEN get a gun. - Reply to this comment

- kindrox,
You support my comment.
Whether it is an acquaintance, a hubby or a boyfriend, it is still someone you have let into your house AND NOT the boogeyman.
GunOwnerDan says lock your doors, but you may be locking the bad guy in, not out. - Reply to this comment
- *** What if the dangerous criminal IS your loved one? We act as if there is always a boogeyman out there when most women are killed by a loved one and about half of all men. ***
I believe you are mis-citing the often used *statistic* that most women are killed by an acquaintance. From which people made the leap that *acquaintance* means hubby/boyfriend.
All *acquaintance* means is someone who is not a perfect stranger. Like ex-husbands, ex-boyfriends, neighbors, co-workers, people from past lives, ect. You know, a long list of people whom the woman knows, but she would not expect to have access to her house.
So while the statistic may be correct, the conclusion that women should not arm themselves because hubby will just shoot them with it is not correct. I hope most women are not in relationships where the man is just one weapon away from killing the woman. - Reply to this comment

How''s that Swastika Breath? You Fascist always do this, I''d suppose it''s your childish way to trying to look superior. What did the person say that makes them a sicko. Yeah TRUTH is stranger than fiction sometimes. I''ve lived amoung these Southern Fascist, the type of losers in charge in Tex-AZZ, all my life and I know how they are. They''ll make an attempt to find the people responsible but when that fails they will find someone to pin it on. Give them a quickie trial with some drunk for an attorney and fry them. - Reply to this comment
- *** Some family members are encouraging her to take a course and get a gun. This young woman has low confidence in herself, and a person MUST have confidence in themselves before they can pull the trigger or they will end up being shot with their own gun. ***
I agree with this, guns are not suited for all people. Which is why it is too bad people who could take responsibility for their own safety, don%u2019t. The could-be responsible person ends up a victim, and the victimizer is left running around free, possibly to go after the can%u2019t-be responsible person.
That said, with training and then given the RESPONSIBILITY of a gun, maybe this young lady could snap out of her low confidence. Confidence is not given, it comes from the inside and knowing what a person is capable of.
This girl will never get confidence without giving her an avenue to become responsible in a meaningful way. Gun ownership certainly has helped my wife in this regard. - Reply to this comment
- GunOwnerDan, I support your constitutional right, but not everyone is suited to use a gun for defense. My best friend''s daughter (the wife of a Marine) was attacked in her apartment last week when a man forced his way in the door. Some family members are encouraging her to take a course and get a gun. This young woman has low confidence in herself, and a person MUST have confidence in themselves before they can pull the trigger or they will end up being shot with their own gun. She can legally have pepper spray but her state limits the size of the cannister. My suggestion to her, and others like her who are not suited for firearms, is to buy wasp spray -- the kind that sprays several feet. It''s legal in all 50 states, legal to carry in your car while traveling, you are not limited to the size of the can, and if you use it indoors, you will not have to vacate your house for several hours like you do after pepper spray is used. Hit an intruder in the eyes with that stuff, and they will be incapacitated. Sure, the criminal may sue you later (the cops told her that she will probably be sued by him since her dog bit him during the attack), but better to be sued than dead!
