(CBS/AP)  "Wedding Crashers" star Owen Wilson was hospitalized in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

No further comments were expected, she said.

The actor was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was transferred there from St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.

It was not known why he was hospitalized, but Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday that the department responded to a call that involved the 38-year-old actor.

The chief would not comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.

It was not known why he was hospitalized, but a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor's gated house Sunday around noon, The Associated Press reported.

"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house," said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street from the actor.

According to "Entertainment Tonight," Wilson was later brought to the Beverly Hills' Cedars-Sinai Hospital where he detoxed. Anonymous sources said Wilson suffered from dehydration. The show also reported that brother Luke Wilson was spotted leaving Cedars-Sinai on Sunday night with their brother, Andrew. People magazine said Owen's parents also visited.

Wilson, who recently broke up with actress Kate Hudson, was nominated for an Oscar for "The Royal Tenebaums" screenplay. He has starred in many box-office blockbusters such as "Zoolander" with Ben Stiller and the thriller "Behind Enemy Lines" with Gene Hackman.

Most recently, he starred in "Night at the Museum," with Stiller and is slated to star in the film adaptation of the book "Marley and Me."

Owen Wilson is of Irish descent and, like many Irish people, has literary ambitions.

People with that background have been known to have the occasional "meltdown" (cf. Eugene O''Neill)

[Talking about his relationship with Sheryl Crow and his relationships with women in general]: "Going out with someone who''s doing the same thing as you, who''s in the public eye, can be a problem... You want a break when you come home. You don''t want someone with the same issues as you maybe reminding you of stuff you don''t like in yourself. That being said, I don''t think being in the spotlight had anything to do with me and Sheryl not working out. The story of our relationship is the same story I''ve had with most of my relationships. I was lucky enough to find a great girl and, because of my lack of... focus, the relationship went south." - Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson never wanted to be an actor. Just a writer.

"Acting is more fun than writing. Writing is harder, more like having a term paper... [On what he enjoys most about being an actor] "I was reading some Bob Dylan interview where he said, "It beats nine-to-five. It beat it yesterday, it beats it today, and it will beat it tomorrow." That''s how I feel. I just thank God that I''m able to make a living doing something that I can have a good time doing, and be creative." - Owen Wilson

Replying to the following post: "Maybe while he''s in, they can fix his God-awful nose."

"Owen Wilson usually declines to discuss the source of his distinctive-looking nose, which was clearly broken at one time. The broken nose was apparently the result of a football injury attained while on the football team in high school (all three Wilson brothers had played high school football, the elder Andrew with the greatest success)."

Just a reminder to the general public, the radio dj''s in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are gossiping way overboard about Owen Wilson. They are repeating all the garbage stories about him "sliting his wrists" and "swallowing a whole bottle of pills" that the National Enquierer and Star magazine reported. I''m sure all the dj''s in your areas are doing the same thing. Please avoid these lying, storytelling people at all costs until the real truth, if possible, surfaces. Thank You.

Owen - my heart aches to hear about your situation :( I, too, have attempted the same thing. Owen - as another here has said..."I don''t know you from Adam," but I have to say....I''m a 39 yr old female and aside from Katharine Hepburn...you are the first celebrity that I''ve ever shed tears for. Not because you''re gone, but because you''re still here. While I don''t know you personally, I love you dearly, and I''m SOOO very glad you''re still here with me/us.

May you heal quickly, completely, and peacefully....

Your loving fan...

Regina~

In spite of the rash of the young celebrities entering rehab, less famous people have mental health and addiction issues every day. It is a serious disease, until the comedians and the general public stops mocking people for having it, and not really understanding it, people will be hesistant to come forward, and issues will go untreated, and people will consider taking their lives.

Owen Wilson...You don''t know me from Adam; but I wanna just say thanx for the laughs you''ve given me. God knows we ALL need some kind of "reprieve" in this crazy ol'' world, and that''s exactly what I get when you share yourself on the screen or elsewhere. So you take care, Dude! Alot of folks DO care. And F**K the haters! Just stick close to your family and true friends at the most difficult time in your life. With love and appreciation. HANG-IN.

Dear Kelley Ann:
Your salivating sweaty desparation is showing.

Big Tip Coming:
You are scraping at the lower depths of a deep slimy trench. Hoist yourself up a notch...take your goggles off. Put the zuccinni gourd you''ve resorted to digging with - down. Try oh try to bring yourself to a standing position so you can see better and get a clue.

There is a saying: "I''d have to dig a ditch to bring you up, to put you down."

This is a blog site, not a dating arena. HE IS IN THE HOSPITAL DEAR. Can you see where you are at yet? You are not in a place to hang a shingle with your attributes of a sexual romantic nature to a person who will probably never give you the time of day and one who has been HOSPITALIZED.
I don''t think he is up to your *** right now.

You act like the desparate, clutching, grasping, stalking Marla Maples. Good luck to you it can''t be easy being in a trench purporting your ability to love beyond all imaginable.

"Detox" is a separate and distinctly different ailment from dehydration.

Is EVERYONE on drugs and alcohol? Should be we put DETOX and REHAB on all insurance policies or maybe mandate it for children and adults of every community from birth every six months thru retirement or what?

Hair strand analysis should take the place of blood and urine testing for drugs and alcohol. It''s like a time teller. Forensic testing can tell exactly when and for how long a time period that specific drug was ingested.

At that point we would all know beyond a shadow of a doubt why DETOX was needed for this poor soul who apparently couldn''t care less about his fellow man''s relationship with that mans trumped up version of a "wife" and "mother" of their children.

Give him some water and inquire what his choice of drugs is so they can determine what type of detox is needed. The End.

May we all go back to our pathetic version of life now?

Wow humor has always been an escape mechanism for depression. I hope all will be well for him

modemmack, good observation but not a ''new'' trend. People who suffer depression have usually adopted humor as a ''defense mechanism''. Many commedians in the past have suffered from emotional issues (think Buster Keaton, Harpo Marx, or even Martin Lawrence). It can work many times but doesn''t solve the problem, overall. I guess humor as an escape is better than drinking...

Sorry for him, but it would be no great loss, not like the man developed the cure for cancer or anything, he''s a jerk, OK but I wish him speedy recovery, get his life in order and then move on.

owen wilson is such the man. i don''t even care that he is a homewrecker. life sucks, you have to life for yourself. he wanted to be with her, he got her. if she didn''t want him, she wouldn''t have left her husband. he''s not to blame. it was a team effort. and unfortunately, things didn''t work out. that''s something that they''ll have to deal with. he''s my favorite, and i only want him to get better. you''re handsome, owen, and if you need some lovin, just let me know. ;)
