(CBS/AP)  Hulk Hogan's son was released from the hospital Monday, a day after a car crash that critically injured his passenger, authorities said.

A Toyota Supra driven by Hogan's 17-year-old son, Nick Bollea, was traveling at a high rate of speed at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Clearwater Police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. Bollea lost control and hit a raised median. The car flipped around, and the back end hit a palm tree.

Police identified Bollea's passenger as 22-year-old John J. Graziano of Dunedin. He remained in critical condition Monday at Bayfront Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred on SR 60, which is a main drag through downtown Clearwater.

"It's clear from the scene and other factors that excessive speed ... was a factor in the crash," Shelor said Monday. He said the investigation is continuing.

According to theSmokingGun.com Bollea was ticketed earlier this month by Pinellas Park police for doing 82 mph in a 45 mph construction zone. Police also cited him for not wearing a seat belt. The wrestler's son is due to appear in court on Sept. 10 for that charge.

Bollea appears on VH1's "Hogan Knows Best" with his professional wrestler-father, his mother and sister.

The sad and ironic thing is that it''s the friend and his family who will ultimately pay for the rest of their lives for this young man''s stupidity. I know of what I speak...we lost our one-and-only, precious, 15-year-old son six years ago in a similar accident. We thank the Lord that we know he''s in Heaven...but it doesn''t keep it from hurting any less here on Earth. Let''s pray this is a wake-up call for both Nick and his parents.

If my kid had pulled a stunt like that the only time he''d be touching my car again would be to wash it. I hope his dad kicks his butt all over that mansion he lives in - it''ll give him a good warm-up for the buttkicking I hope he gets from a judge.

Teenagers & cars. Not a good mix. Parents, ask yourself is it really mandatory for your teenager to be driving a car.

They speed & taking risks. Put a bunch of teens in a car & the driver gets distracted. Alcohol is often involved. Bad news.

I guess Hulk Hogan is gonna drop a can of whoop
a-s-s on his son.

Witnesses of that night have the Bollea/Hogan racing of all things a Dodge Viper with him doing around 85-90 mph. This isn''t the first time he''s been ticketed and caught racing. Lets hope his friend doesn''t pay the ultimate price for his stupidity..or his parents for that matter.

He was probably being the same little show off in his car like he is often portrayed on the show. I hope he makes it out ok though. His parents seem to really care about their kids. I also hope this is a big lesson that even though he races cars on the track; a public road isn''t a license to be wreckless. To put a passenger in danger like that was irresponsible!
