Cancer
Learn about the most common cancers, who gets them and how they are treated.
For most, a cancer diagnosis can be devastating.
But, as CBS News contributor Benno Schmidt reported on The Early Show Monday, for John Kanzius, it was a call to action.
Kanzius isn't a doctor. He doesn't even have a college degree.
Yet, observes Schmidt, the device he invented has impressed a notable researcher and inspired his hometown, Erie, Pa., to the point where it gave him a key to the city in April.
Asked by Schmidt what made him think he could cure cancer, Kanzius replied with a laugh, "What made me think I couldn't cure cancer? Nobody else was doing it!"
A former radio and TV engineer and one-time station owner, Kanzius, who suffers from leukemia, hated his chemotherapy and saw its devastating effect on others.
"I ran into some of the same patients over and over again and, to see their smiles disappear within a few weeks, and then watch their hair disappear and then, clinging to their mothers asking, 'What's wrong with me?' was heartbreaking."
Kanzius, who'd been building radios since childhood, believed radio waves could somehow be harnessed to destroy cancer, without drugs or invasive surgery.
"I envision this treatment taking no more than a couple of minutes or so," he says.
Kanzius hopes cancer treatments could work something like this: A patient would be injected with tiny metal nano-particles, which would be carried through the bloodstream by a targeting molecule and attach only to cancerous cells. The patient would then be exposed to an energy field created by radio waves, and feel nothing, while the nano-particles would generate enough heat to destroy their cancerous host cell.
While noting that targeting cancer cells will be the biggest challenge, Kanzius demonstrated just how easily the nano-particles could be used as receivers.
A lab worker injected carbon nano-particles into a specific spot in a piece of liver, which was then placed into an energy field of low frequency radio waves.
Within seconds, the areas injected the with nano-particles were heated to the point of actually cooking the liver, while leaving the surrounding meat unscathed.
Kanzius' invention has caught the attention of Dr. Steven Curley, a surgical oncologist and cancer researcher at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
"This has the most fascinating potential I've seen in anything in my twenty years of cancer research," Curley told Schmidt.
Curley has developed current methods of using radio frequencies to attack cancer, but says he looks forward to one day using a non-invasive approach like the one Kanzius is working on.
"This," Curley says, "is what will get into the cancer cells and again … release heat that will kill the cancer cells."
He wouldn't reveal animal test results on camera, but says he's optimistic that his findings will be announced this fall.
In the meantime, he's joined Kanzius in an effort to raise awareness and funds to expedite further research.
The April symposium at which Kanzius got the key to Erie brought out 700 people who were not only enthused by the prospect of curing cancer, but having their city as the manufacturing hub of the device Kanzius invented.
Former Erie Mayor Joyce Savocchio remarks, "I always say to John Kanzius, he'd better practice Swedish, because I honestly believe he's going to be in Sweden accepting the Nobel Prize!"
Savocchio leads the fundraising efforts in Erie and says, since the machine would be built there, Erie cud benefit, big-time.
"The projected income," she points out, "should this be successful, is anywhere between $2.5 billion and $10 billion a year."
Experts say human trials using Kanzius' device are at least three years away, but Kanzius is undaunted, telling Schmidt, "I'd like to see the first patient treated wile I'm still alive, and to have the doctor tell them they're cured!
As for Kanzius himself - Schmidt says his health is considered stable, and he continues to undergo chemotherapy for his leukemia.

See all 90 CommentsRife was a master at optics and constructed a microscope with 6,000 parts that could view a LIVE virus in the 1930s--even the electron microscope created decades later could only view dead ones. He meticulously recorded the frequencies needed to kill various germs and treated all manner of diseases. His New Jersey factory was burned to the ground, the AMA hounded him and bought off doctors who once hailed his achievements.
This fellow is simply repeating Rife''s work-- apparently doing a better job than the ''Rife Machines'' currently being marketed. There has been some discussion regarding the superiority of the old vacumn tube machines over modern ones....
I applaude your posting and others like you will only shine the light on truth and medical justice to the citizens of this great nation that is so overdue.
It''s use was widespread and documented in medical journals.
A book named "Into The Light" and I believe it was a Dr. Brown who authored it. I don''t have the book with me for details, but the doctor still practices the therapy. In the book they were even conquering AIDS in Africa with the ultraviolet therapy...
It was even used to get rid of the flu, colds, and a lot of other maladies...
However, this radical treatment has polarised the medical community in Australia. His supporters say he''s been vilified, while his detractors point out there is no scientific basis for his claims.
Dr Holt''s controversial treatment works, in layperson''s terms, by giving the patient an injection of a glucose-blocking agent. He then shines "radio waves" into the body at a specific frequency. Dr Holt doesn''t guarantee it will cure every cancer, but it''s not expensive and there''s no quackery about it.
Dr Holt has 26 medical letters after his name..
Here is a wonderful doctor, highly qualified in many areas, including Radiology and Gynaecology, yet despite the hundreds and hundreds of successful cases where cancer patients - many in very advanced stages of the disease - have been given the all clear, mainstream medicine continues to turn its back on him. But what better proof is there than patients alive and well, all with documented evidence before and after treatment?
There was supposed to be a study done on this method by the government, but low and behold it has never eventuated, I wonder why or rather should I say that I wonder who stopped it,, there is tooooo much money to be made out of cancer..

This administration was NOT voted in. It was appointed by the Supreme Court the first time, and then rigged in Ohio for the second time. There are many of us who did not vote for them, but who have been subjected to their lies and crimes against the United States. I can still hear that idiot Bush declaring a "mandate" during the second so called election. He is too stupid to know 51% is NOT a mandate.
Now, about the cancer treatment being proposed by John Kanzius: it will all come down to something exactly this simple. Cancer treatment is complicated only because the pharmaceutical companies want it to be. I am sure they have hidden the cures for decades. Meanwhile they pour platinum and gold into our bloodstreams and call it chemo.
Recently "A Current Affair" aired a story on Perth based surgeon Dr. John Holt, whom many believe has a cure for some forms of cancers.
The National Health & Medical Research Council committed to conduct a review of Dr Holt''s method of cancer treatment, Microwave Cancer Therapy. The original date for the review was to be provided to the Minister for Health by 21st December 2004, this deadline passed and then another was set and another passed and so on.
The result of these delays is that Dr Holt, who is 80 years of age and who has cured thousands of people of many forms of cancer will be closing his practice on 30th June 2005. This will be a real tragedy especially to all of his patients and potential patients when conventional medicine tells them there is nothing that can be done.
Please help ordinary Australians who finally have a chance to beat cancer to keep this treatment here.
We the undersigned demand that the Australian Government, and Department of Health and Ageing, act swiftly and responsibly to ensure that, this treatment and its founder be acknowledged and accepted as a real form of cancer treatment.
Thank you for your assistance in attempting to save Doctor Holt and the lives of thousands of cancer sufferers. Its true this fight is world wide and our inaction just villifies the few who other than good reasons want to keep this info out.
Just food for thought. I know there are naturally occuring radio waves, but it would seem that evolution would have taken care of that. Man just hasn''t caught up (physically) with the new manipulated radio waves...
The Russians have been using the "woodpecker effect" which since the ''60s they have been modulating radio wanve towards the west coast of America disrupting cognitive thinking, I don''t know if they are doing it now but this has been well documented. Chris

Maybe that''s why my thinking went to h*ll when I lived in Oregon...? lol
Dr. Robert Beck and William Bisehaveshown show how deadly this is possesed by this signal. Measurments have been performed in particularly the West coast and around Eugene and Portland.

I understand completely the point you''re articulating.
It''s the very reason we do not have a government of the people. Too many complacents out there to effect change.
It is difficult being progressive while having others impede your progress.
I find it simply amazing how most do not like change, even if it is for the better. It is incredible to see just how dumb the masses really are.
A person is smart, but when you have a mass of persons, something happens to their mentality and their IQ just seems to go down the toilet.
I just wonder how many hospitals and Mds are the dole of the big pharma? As well as our government officials and the FDA.
but the radio waves make sense. It''s about time the researchers and their companies used common sense and came up with cures, like Salk and Sabin did. Of course, they won''t get rich.
Perhaps we should import scientists who seem to be ahead of us.
I agree with your statement 100%.
There is too much collusion and racketerring done here in the guise of helping others, but all it does is enslave them to more and more medications.
You go to the doctor, he prescribes something which has side effects, they don''t show right away, but as the drug builds up in your body, the side effects will increase. You then go to your MD, he prescribes another drug to treat the side effects (symptoms) and the vicious cycle has begun (by adding more drugs to your regimen to combat the side effects) and the only ones "winning" are the pharmas and the health care system.
