"I regret what I did. I wish I could take it back every day," Heather Johnston, 19, tearfully told Judge Mary Staley.
Johnston and Ashley Miller were videotaped as they appeared to rob nearly $11,000 from a Bank of America in Acworth, Georgia, on Feb. 27. The incident turned out to be a theft involving a complicit teller, authorities said.
The young women were arrested two days later, after the two went on a shopping spree, ate a meal and even gave money to the homeless.
Police also charged a bank teller and another man, saying it appeared to be an inside job because of the amount of money involved.
Johnston entered the pleas to a felony charge of theft by taking and misdemeanor possession during the hearing in Cobb County Superior Court. She and her parents asked the judge not to send her to prison.
Assistant district attorney Jason Samuels asked for three years imprisonment on the theft charge and one year on the drug charge, to be served concurrently. He noted that Johnston was seen smiling during the theft, and later laughed about the incident during a nationally televised interview.
Staley said she will defer sentencing until after the three other defendants' cases are concluded.
After the hearing, Johnston told reporters she is prepared for the possibility of going to prison — and rejected the Barbie Bandit tag.
"It's something the media made up," she said. "That's not funny."

- Stupid is as stupid does.
Mom & Dad are so proud of their little girl.
Sunglasses are an excellent disguise. No one can tell who you are. All that for a measly $11,000? Was she on something? 19-years-old and already
has a felony charge. Way to screw up your life.
You should be in college at that age drinking yourself to oblivion & losing your virginity to
a frat boy.
I would enjoy seeing video footage of Sweetie''s first week in prison. Put her on the same block as a lot of the older, hardened female inmates. Let her become a sexual amusement park for them. Traded for a carton of cigarettes.
The worst part of it all? Limited access to a cellphone. The horror, the horror.
Lower the boom on her, Judge. - Reply to this comment
- As a college Professor and author on the topic of Women Rights - I believe that I can bring another perspective to this discussion. ( and I hope wisdom).
We are all trained from birth to be what we are. No one is purely him or herself.
Therefore, we can only assume that these young poor girls were from a societal background that allowed/encouraged/ permitted/ endowed behaviour and behaviours that said, "No- you can not have it !" "I can not want it ." and "It is mine but a male bully has stolen it ." ( sibling, father, neighbor ruffian)
Thus , you can not BLAME these young girls. Men are running society in America and Western so called "developed" countries, and thus when are the focal point of blame when such variations of outlook take place. Other more agrarian societies such as S. Arabia or Nolandia in Afric are perfect examples of co- operative mini states, where men and women share equally. Truth is, these young girls were calling out for help.
Blaming and crass punishment do so much harm, when all of us are at fault. There is no right or wrong, just mis understood calls for help. - Reply to this comment

- There was a time in America when a Bank Roberry was "Serious" crime that led to serious hard time in the slammer. No More...this legal system is a total Joke. I''ll be surprised if she spends one day in Prison. It''s the Liberal Policies of the Nation that have ruined us. Splaps on the wrist only leads to one thing...more crime. Now others will rob banks because they''ll know that nothing will happen to them. Just like Murderers. They know they''re not going to be executed for it. So why not murder that person who pisses me off. At least I''ll get a cot and three hot meals, and don;t have to pay any bills. That''s what people think like.

- This isn''t the only way the law is biased in this country...pretty girls get off, rich preppy boys get off. There is no such thing as equal under the law.

- Amen to THAT! How many stories do we hear where women cut off a man''''s johnson, sleep w/ their students, run over exes with cars, shoot their preacher husbands with a shotgun while sleeping, attempt to kidnap jealous rivals, rob banks,Posted by dogsoul at 05:37 PM : Aug 22, 2007
It''s time we made the laws for crimes the SAME in every state, the SAME for each gender that commits the crime (or leniency the same if similar mitigating circumstances) Because you are right, the cases lately have been letting women get away with murder, molestation, bank robbery, etc and nothing really is done. Charges should have been bank robbery as they did what ever robber at a bank does--inside job or not and the woman who shot her hubby in the back, should have to stay in a prison mental hospital for the rest of her sentence (which should have been at least 20 yrs) and the molesters should get time like any male pedophile.
We should also have the right to review and disbar judges who fail to uphold the rules of law and sentencing. This designer sentencing means none of us will have much respect for the laws--after all, even illegals are above our laws. - Reply to this comment

Neither was your stealing money from a bank, beeyatch. If Paris must go to jail for her little indiscretions, this clueless heifer sure needs a bit of time in the big house for hers. Barbie needs to find out that there are no free lunches, no do overs and just like they teach in kindergarten--there are consequences. It is bad enough the charges were reduced. it should have been ''armed bank robbery'' all the way. And it would have been--had these been minorities. giggles or not. - Reply to this comment

- What wasn''t funny sweetie, is you robbing a bank - and perhaps causing harm to others.
Too bad the authorities will put you in a female inmate prison - you deserve to be with Bubba - who services both.
As the previous poster said, Barbie, it is your duty to fellate, since you were so keen on robbing. Besides you look a bit like that other ''ho Paris. - Reply to this comment

listen, women have to play it that way, because they are weaker, less intelligent, and WAY more incompetent than their masters, men.
women are born with a list of rules embedded into their psyche:
a) men are superior in every way
2) it is a womans duty yo fellate any man.
c) women should keep their mouths shut, as it is only there to fellate a man, and should not be damaged by non-sensical bantering.
god hath written these rules, and more and more women choose to dis-obey.
the punishment is to be reincarnated as a women until they get it right. - Reply to this comment
- There was an original statement "I don''t want to go to jail" hey genius who does. If you do the crime you need to be prepared to do the time when you get caught.

- "Women usually don''''t go to jail if they cry and say they were sorry."
Amen to THAT! How many stories do we hear where women cut off a man''s johnson, sleep w/ their students, run over exes with cars, shoot their preacher husbands with a shotgun while sleeping, attempt to kidnap jealous rivals, rob banks, you NAME it and all they have to do is go on the stand, cry & say there were ''abused''... and they end up w/ a slap on the wrist for doing the exact same things that''d land a man in jail for many years to life. What''s worse is that most women have absolutely ZERO problem with that double standard, but will go absolutely APESH*T at the faintist whif of perceived inequality where their own interests are at stake... - Reply to this comment
