Key events in once friendly, now contentious relationship between Washington and Tehran.

(AP)  Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday that Israel was the standard bearer of Satan and the Jewish state would soon fall apart, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Saturday.

The agency quoted Ahmadinejad as he spoke at a religious conference and did not elaborate on what he meant by Satan. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, however, Iran has regularly referred to the United States as "the Great Satan."

"The Zionist regime is the standard bearer of invasion, occupation and Satan," he said, predicting Israel's eventual demise. "When the philosophy behind the establishment of a regime is in question, it is not unlikely that it will find itself on a course of decline and dissolution."

Ahmadinejad has made anti-Israel comments in the past.

In October 2005, he caused outrage in the West when he said in a speech that Israel's "Zionist regime should be wiped off the map."

His supporters have argued Ahmadinejad's words were mistranslated and should have been better translated as "vanish from the pages of time" — implying Israel would vanish on its own rather be destroyed.

The last few comments indeed reflect closed and shallow minds as well as some angry, hate-filled individuals, who should strive for better attitudes toward their own lives and toward their own sad and problematic existence. Such mentalities will only bring more grief to the world and to themselves if they either won''t or can''t recognize that they benefit no one. Their solutions - and apparently to other problems, situations, etc - is more likely to cause destruction and death than be helpful to any on this planet, for they seem to apply negatives instead of positives. Change your approaches and you will feel better. You know who you are

I first of all am a Christian and believe that Jesus Christ is my savior sent to earth by God to die for my sins that they be forgiven. He taught love of our fellow men, even our enemies.

I don''t know much about the Muslim religion except that it is supposed to be a religion of peace. Not unlike Christianity.

However the Jew is and has always been money changers. Jesus himself threw them out of the temple mount. The Jews crucified Jesus.

Again Rick,,,, We are definatly not a nation founded on Christian principles.... We brougt various forms of Christianity & other religions here...... Many fled from Persecution by Christians in England & Europe,
,, My ancesters were Palentine Protestant Germans, & they were ran out of Gemany by other Christians who stole thier land & persecuted them for generations.

Rick,,,, Muhammed who,,, the owner of my faviorte coffee shop the Pancake Palace''s name is actually Muhammed Muhammed, he a fine individual & an asset to North Highlands.... He''s still Muslem & hosts even nutbags that gather in his restraunt & pray for Bush ---- He just smiles, looks at me & shakes his head,, often he''s stopped me from going off on them.

Even the ancient Muhammed you mention talks of the man you call Jesus & has recorded his childhood & life wich your New Testiment fails to do.

Rick,,, Even in ancient Palestine Jews were money changers & traders right along side of the Muslems. Centuries of European conquest & colonization had a greater effect on the region than you relize..

You''re right Rick, I do get angry over religious ignorance & lying politicians that keep ignoring Gods laws & the laws your Jesus would have taught & lived by..... I get pissed at all radical dangerous minority religions, from Christianity to elements of Buddhaism,,, Islam included..

Yet Ossma Bin Laden''s terrorism against the west is Political & less Religious.

Rick,,, That''s a good question... How the world will end ? --- I don''t have a crystal ball nor does God wisper in my ear or yours for that matter...

Our Earth''s magnitism is in the process of reversal,,, the Van Allen Radiation Belt is deminishing..... We could argue Global Warming, but we wouldh''t get any where, so let''s say -- Our worlds food sources will be depleated, overpopulation & conflicts for food instad of oil.
... Who knows ??? The only world 2,000 years ago was the Mediteranian region & Asia as far as anyone knew the world was flat & every thing revolved around it..... So Biblical Prophecies you can nix straight away.

singinrick,,,, Fox is about as slanted as media can get... It spreads Islamofobia in a big way, & they always discredit any opposing voice.... CNN doesn''t,,, They & MSNBC have a few far right conservative shows, I don''t like but I watch them.
