Expert Retirement Planning Advice For Free
With Social Security shaky in the long term and plump company pensions becoming a thing of the past, retirement planning is a pressing concern for a lot of Americans, particularly the 35 million baby boomers on the brink of retirement. But many people have a hard time sorting through the dizzying array of choices: from 401(k) plans to individual investments and insurance.
If you are worried about safeguarding your financial future but don't have the luxury of consulting an adviser, you may want to take advantage of the free retirement-planning information being offered this month by the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, a nonprofit organization of financial professionals.
Advisers from NAPFA have teamed with the folks at Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine to give consumers free advice on topics such as investments, insurance, taxes and estate planning. The two "Jump-Start Your Retirement Planning" days will be held Friday, Aug. 17 and Thursday, Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time. Just call toll-free 888-919-2345 to speak to a financial adviser about your retirement plan. You can also send a question in via e-mail to jumpstart@kiplinger.com.
NAPFA advisers are prepared to field questions from people who are just starting out as well as those planning to retire in the immediate future. Just remember: The calls typically last 5-15 minutes, so don't expect the advice you receive to answer all your concerns.

- What a joke... who can afford to retire? Investments... yeah right. 90% of my investments disappeared in the dot com crash... I''ve barely doubled what I had left since then, although inflation has probably wiped out those gains too. I expect to work until I drop or be a burden on my family. I''m shopping soup kitchens now for future reference.
