(AP)  Five family members fell 65 feet to their deaths from a Ferris wheel Monday after the car they were riding in unexpectedly overturned at an amusement park, police said.

Two members of the family in the car clung to handholds and survived without injury, police officer Yoon Jae-man said.

Jeon Un-sung, 70, one of those rescued from the ill-fated car in the southern city of Busan, said "the slowly moving gondola suddenly stopped and turned upside down and family members fell in a flash" when the window behind the seats fell out of the car, according to Yonhap news agency.

Among the dead were a 68-year-old woman, a 7-year-old boy and two others killed at the scene, police said. A 28-year-old woman who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment died later.

The 216-foot-high "Giant Wheel" ride has 42 cars. It was among about 30 rides at the World Carnival mobile amusement park that opened in Busan last month for a 40-day run after arriving from Hong Kong, Yonhap reported.

Police were still investigating the accident and interviewing witnesses, Yoon said. The amusement park did not answer repeated calls.

LOL, no that is either stinkingrick or singinghypocrit. Yeah, it's just like goD was strengthening their arms so they could hold on, guess they PRAYED whilst the 5 didn't pay hard enough or didnt say enough hail marys haha

How does an accident in SOUTH KOREA make the US national news media as a story anyone here cares about in the first place?? How is this news HERE, geez, must be a slow news week or the bridge and mine didn't give enough material today so they went overseas looking for filler stories like THIS.
Do you think the South Koreans want to read about a car wreck caused by a drunk driver in Florida, no? then why would anyone HERE want to read about an amusement park accident over THERE?

"Don't people wear "seat belt"-like restraints in those things ? Where you're strapped in ?"

Shouldn't the safety of South Korean amusement parks have been on the agenda, during President Bush's recent negotiations with that country ?

These five victims might be alive today, if George Bush had been doing his job.

Following the bridge in Minn, and the mine collapse and the logic of some on these boards, they need to IMMEDIATELY shut down ferris wheels world-wide, arrest the owners and throw them in jail, CBS needs to cover the entire story for at least a week, with videos, photo galleries, interviews and victim biographies. We need to know when they were born, what schools they went to, all about their pets, brothers and sisters and what they hoped to do.

And then we need a MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICE, a state funeral with the Governor, flags flown half staff, fund raisers, and then install a memorial in a plaza where the ferris wheel WAS after it's demolished.

Wow! I can't even imagine!
I know the fall would only take seconds but those seconds would be a nightmare.
Condolences for the remaining family members.

How awful. No one ever checks these rides for safety and makes sure all is well before it starts up.

I once almost fell off a ride at a park here as a child. I kept screeming to stop, and only just held on. I kept slipping towards the opening. I don't know if it is still in use.

How tragic! I'm sure they went to the park to enjoy a day of fun and never had an inkling it was the last day of their lives. I pray the family will be able to overcome this horrible event.
