Airlines Sue FBI And CIA Over 9/11 Blame

Aviation Companies Want To Interview Investigators From Both Agencies Concerning Blame For The Attacks

(AP)  Airlines and aviation-related companies sued the CIA and the FBI on Tuesday to force terrorism investigators to tell whether the aviation industry was to blame for the Sept. 11 attacks.

The two lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Manhattan sought court orders for depositions as the aviation entities build their defenses against lawsuits seeking billions of dollars in damages for injuries, fatalities, property damage and business losses related to Sept. 11, 2001.

The aviation companies said the agencies in a series of boilerplate letters had refused to let them depose two secret agents, including the 2001 head of the CIA's special Osama bin Laden unit, and six FBI agents with key information about al Qaeda and bin Laden.

The airlines, airport authorities, security companies and an aircraft manufacturer said they were entitled to present evidence to show the terrorist attacks did not depend upon negligence by any aviation defendants and that there were other causes of the attacks.

They said that the depositions were likely to result in evidence showing the terrorists were sophisticated, ideologically driven and well-financed and would have succeeded regardless of any action by the aviation entities.

"The aviation parties are entitled to show that operations conducted by the federal intelligence agencies were the most effective way to uncover and stop the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and that the inability of the federal intelligence agencies to detect and stop the plot is a more causal circumstance of the terrorist attacks than any allegedly negligent conduct of the aviation parties," the FBI lawsuit said.

In the CIA lawsuit, companies including American Airlines owner AMR Corp., United Airlines' UAL Corp., US Airways Group Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc., Continental Airlines Inc. and Boeing Co. asked to interview the deputy chief of the CIA's bin Laden unit in 2001 and an FBI agent assigned to the unit at that time. The names of both are secret.

In the FBI lawsuit, the companies asked to interview five former and current FBI employees who had participated in investigations of al Qaeda and al Qaeda operatives before and after Sept. 11.

Those individuals included Coleen M. Rowley, the former top FBI lawyer in its Minneapolis office, who sent a scathing letter to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller in May 2002 complaining that a supervisor in Washington interfered with the Minnesota investigation of Zacarias Moussaoui weeks before the Sept. 11 attacks.

The lawsuits also sought to speak to Harry Samit, an FBI agent in the Minneapolis office who was among those who arrested Moussaoui in August 2001. They said he had testified that he suggested to his superiors that the Federal Aviation Administration be notified that Moussaoui was involved in a plot to hijack a commercial airliner.

The testimony was critical to their defense because both agencies play key roles in advising the FAA as to whether new security measures were needed to protect civil aviation against terrorists, the lawsuits said.

The airline entities said they need the testimony to defend against accusations that they had primary responsibility to assess the threat posed by terrorists, that they should have detected terrorists' weapons, that they should have anticipated the attacks and that they should have identified and stopped the 19 terrorists who carried out the suicide hijackings.

Requests to interview the agents were rejected as not sufficiently explained, burdensome or protected by investigative or attorney-client privilege, the lawsuits said.

Government spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said she had no immediate comment on the lawsuits.

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said the agency had not reviewed the lawsuit against it and would not comment on pending litigation.

A victims' compensation fund established by Congress has paid $6 billion to 2,880 families of those who died in the attacks and more than $1 billion to 2,680 injured victims.

But 41 cases filed on behalf of 42 victims remain pending in federal court in Manhattan because some victims decided to pursue the usual court route rather than accept payouts from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001.

The first trials to assess damages are scheduled to begin in September.

The first thing the Government will do is claim "sovereign immunity" and have the case thrown out, Of course those of us acquainted with the Constitution and the Federalist papers know that the Government of the US is not sovereign, the people are, but that little detail won't stop them.

They HOPE it says that, it is not 'sophisticated' to hijack a plane with BOX CUTTERS after buying a ticket!
The airlines are responsible- they allowed passengers to board planes with weapons like these, no passenger ever needs to carry a box cutter, it has not generic function- it's a shipping room/warehouse tool like a forklift is, these are not items you would typically have a habit of carrying around in your pocket, especially on a plane trip.

Perhaps the truth will finally come out.

Odd how the government resists any and all attempts to make the information they had about the events of 9/11/01 public.

Unless, of course, government agents were actively involved, that is.

The airlines are not responsible.

A box cutter is not usually considered a weapon any moreso than a screwdriver.

If the US government had specific information, and they withheld that information, the government is responsible.

From the story:

"two secret agents, including the 2001 head of the CIA's special Osama bin Laden unit, . . . "

"Secret agents"?

You mean the CIA had a "special unit" headed by a "secret agent" and they failed to intercept a multi-year plot that spanned several continents?

He must be doing one heckuva job, whoever he is.

Maybe one of those "secret agents" is Tim Osman.

Don't get your hopes up.

It's a nice thought, but this is just another stalling tactic being used by the insurance companies.

They can drag this out longer than they have the Exxon Valdez case.

People will be hearing about the 9/11/01 lawsuit as it drags out 100 years from now.

But, it's still a pleasant thought to think of George Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld (et al) all being deposed about what they knew and when they knew it.

There was nobody on those planes on 911. Rabbi Dov Zackheim who headed the pentagon budget office that was hit by a missle owned a company that sold remote fly by wire for the new Boeings in case they were hijacked. Coincidence?

He was in charge of a pentigon budget office that came up missing 3 TRILLION dollars. Coincidence?

On the day before 911, Rumsfeld testified that he did not know anything about the missing money. Coincidence?

George Bush's brother owned the company that did the security on the WTC. Coincidence?

The only two building on Earth that could launder 3 TRILLION dollars was destroyed that day. Coincidence?

Osama Bin Laden's brother was George Bush's business partner in Arbusto Oil. Coincidence? ...and I could on all day.

The planes deboarded at DIA HQ and it was witnessed by many. Let go of box cutters and Bin Laden, they had nothing to do with 911. 911 was an inside job.

The Ashkenazi Jews that run the press, the government, the money supply, the congress had everything to do with 911 did it.

Iraq had nothing to do with 911 but 911 had everything to do with Iraqi oil.

You are fighting Israels war because you are idiots and as such, deserve to be treated like cannon fodder. Jews win.

It was the wealthy who helped support the American Revolution. But I doubt if the band of thiefs and ****** will maintain honor, integrity, and truth when standing in judgement; coupled with corrupt of U. Now the jackals are fighting over the carcass...

I wonder how long it will be before a Bench Rat issues gag orders all round....so much 'national security' at stake here...lots of crimes to cover-up.

The absence from the boarding lists of all of the hijackers on all of the planes will be an item of immense interest...

The results of the Flight 77 autopsies wherein all of the passenger's remains were identified safe that of an infant...but the Magic Arab hijackers were nowhere to be found. That raises questions all over the world...but not among the masses in the Benighted States of America. See--
http://www.physics911.net/olmsted.

And, as if this were not enough, the fact that a minimum of seven of the FBI-named hijackers are still alive...this was in the mainstream media for awhile...it should have been a show stopper, but, alas, not here...

Yeah, this is going to be real good...someone throw them another gazelle haunch...

Eventually, the truth will come out.

The "war on terror" will go down as the largest bank heist (US Treasury) in world history.

The "war on terror" has created more millionaires and billionaires than it has anything else.

Unfortunately, those billion (ultimately trillions) will all come from US taxpayers' pockets.

Too bad Americans as a group are such dimwitted, clueless morons.

It doesn't matter - some Bush appointed lackey judge will dismiss the lawsuit without even looking at it.

If that dismissal gets appealed, it will be ground into dust by the claim that "all evidence is top secret, classified material that relates directly to the war on terror." Then it will be dismissed.

The nasty little neocons always yell 'conspiracy theory' whenever the 78 % of US start asking the hard questions...

The airlines were pawns in the game. The CIA hasn't even released their report on 9/11 - why?

The FBI already knew the names of the hijackers, yet did nothing to stop them - why?

The CIA is involved in the stock market short calls prior to 9/11 - why?

Bu$hCo destroyed the 9/11 crime scene before airline investigators could go to work - why?

Oh, I know! The very nature of each US citizen is a conspiracy theorist.

Inside job. The Al Qaeda organization was created, funded, and originally trained by the CIA, as proxy against the Russians in Afghanistan.

Knowing the CIA's "dirty secrets" as they do, makes it inconceivable that they could "hate" the US so much, and not use the information to cause massive investigations that would certainly make the CIA ineffective while such investigations progressed.

One doesn't simply retire from the CIA, especially if ones family (the Bin Ladens) is so easily accessible, because of business connections with the president.

Don't be surprised if, after secret meetings with unnamed "officials" the airlines drop their lawsuits, or lose, and decide not to appeal.

Thomas H. Kean, Chairman, 9/11 Commission

Without Precedent, a book about the 9/11 Commission authored by Chairman Thomas Kean and Vice-Chairman Lee Hamilton 8/4/06: "Fog of war could explain why some people were confused on the day of 9/11, but it could not explain why all of the after-action reports, accident investigations and public testimony by FAA and NORAD officials advanced an account of 9/11 that was untrue." http://www.washingtonpost.com

Washington Post Article 8/2/06 - "Some staff members and commissioners of the Sept. 11 panel concluded that the Pentagon's initial story of how it reacted to the 2001 terrorist attacks may have been part of a deliberate effort to mislead the commission and the public rather than a reflection of the fog of events on that day, according to sources involved in the debate. ...

"We, to this day, don't know why NORAD [the North American Aerospace Command] told us what they told us," said Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey Republican governor who led the commission. "It was just so far from the truth. ... It's one of those loose ends that never got tied." http://www.washington

Evan Solomon: The first chapter of the book is 'the Commission was set up to fail.' ... Why do you think you were set up to fail?

Hamilton: Well, for a number of reasons: ... we got started late; we had a very short time frame - indeed, we had to get it extended; we did not have enough money - 3 million dollars to conduct an extensive investigation. We needed more, we got more, but it took us a while to get it. ...

We had a lot of people strongly opposed to what we did. We had a lot of trouble getting access to documents and to people. ... So there were all kinds of reasons we thought we were set up to fail. ...

Solomon: I guess the question is, you know, if forty odd million dollars were spent investigating President Bill Clinton%u2019s sexual infidelities, why did the American people and the world have to wait 441 days for a commission [to begin its work] that was originally budgeted for 3 million dollars and given barely a year [to complete the investigation]?

Letter to the Editor 2/5/07: Regarding 9/11 "Our government has been hijacked by means of a "new Pearl Harbor" and a lot of otherwise good and decent people who are gullible enough to think that the first three steel-framed buildings in history fall down because they have some fires that the fire fighter on the scene said could be knocked down with a couple of hoses and through which people walked before they were photographed looking out the holes where the plane hit . One of these - bldg 7, was never hit by a plane and even NIST is ashamed to advance a reason for its collapse. And, miracle of miracles, these three buildings just happened to be leased and insured by the same guy who is on tape saying they decided to "PULL" the last one to fall." http://michigandaily.com

I saw nothing of significance at the point of impact - no airplane metal or cargo debris was blowing on the lawn in front of the damaged building as smoke billowed from within the Pentagon. ... all of us staring at the Pentagon that morning were indeed looking for such debris, but what we expected to see was not evident.

The same is true with regard to the kind of damage we expected. ... But I did not see this kind of damage. Rather, the facade had a rather small hole, no larger than 20 feet in diameter. Although this facade later collapsed, it remained standing for 30 or 40 minutes, with the roof line remaining relatively straight.

The scene, in short, was not what I would have expected from a strike by a large jetliner

Heck bridges sometimes collapse into the Mississippi when cars drive over them.
Reality sucks sometimes, but its usually plain to see.

Article Fox News 8/28/05: Regarding the 9/11 Commission "There's something very sinister going on here that really troubles me," Weldon told FOX News on Thursday, blasting the Sept. 11 commission for not taking the claims more seriously. He said some panel members were trying to smear [Lt. Col. Anthony] Shaffer and Able Danger. "What's the Sept. 11 commission got to hide?" Weldon asked." http://www.foxnews.com

So some guy named Weldon (whoever he is, probably another "expert") said something on Fox news. I watch fox news, people say a lot of things and I'm sure some of them our trying to profit off their theories. H0w much money has been made off the JFK assination? 9/11 is an important event of our time, and there's a lot of $$$ to be made hocking theories.
