Her body was found nine days after she went missing and Bobby Cutts Jr., the father of Jessie's 2-year-old son, was arrested.
Whitney Davis, Jessie's sister, sat down with Harry Smith on Friday's The Early Show to discuss the current state of her family.
Davis said that her family is holding strong given the circumstances. "It's a difficult time going through all of this. It's very stressful. We have a lot of up and downs," she said.
Blake, Jessie's son, has helped the Davis family get through some of the tougher moments. Davis said, "Blake is just a constant source of laughter in the house. He's full of smiles."
Despite everything that has happened, the Davis family has forgiven Bobby Cutts Jr. Jessie's mother, Patty Porter, says that she prays for him and his family.
Davis noted that the forgiveness towards Cutts has a lot to do with Blake. She said, "You can't teach a child to hate. I think that's why there is a lot of evil in the world. You can't spend your life hating someone."
Although Blake misses his mother tremendously, he has a strong support system with Jessie's family. "He has the family with him and he is doing well," Davis said.
The community has banded together behind the grieving family. There was a charity auction, which raised $23,000 for a college fund called Blake's Bright Tomorrow and the local homebuilders association and Country Wide Home Loans bought Patty Porter a home.

- You are to be commended. People like you come few and far between. Blake will grow up to be a better person knowing love not hate. This world has enough hate in it. We don't need another person filled with hate. God said to forgive thy brother seven times seventy. Unfortunately this time it was a heinous crime against you and your family. May God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand almong with little Blake.

- I'm sure forgiving this monster makes Davis the family sleep better at night.
Forgiveness is like friendship and respect; it has to be earned.
For me, harming a child (even an unborn fetus) out of malice is not a forgivable offense.
Unfortunately, this is happening all too often in this country. - Reply to this comment
