Violence in Pakistan is spreading, with fresh attacks leaving dozens dead.

(CBS/AP)  Pakistan's turmoil spread from the Afghan frontier to the south, where a suicide bomber struck a convoy carrying Chinese workers — one of three suicide attacks that killed at least 51 people Thursday.

Suicide attacks, bombings and shootings and the siege of the mosque, which had mounted a Taliban-style anti-vice campaign challenging the government's authority, have killed about 285 people in Pakistan so far this month, raising concern about the threat posed by Islamic extremists.

President Gen. Pervez Musharraf called for national unity against extremists enraged by the army's bloody assault on Islamabad's Red Mosque.

Observers warn Musharraf's refusal to accept that he needs across-the-board support from politicians — including his opponents — has complicated the government's ability to clamp down harder on militancy.

"This is a problem which the military cannot fight alone. You need to mobilize Pakistanis. The way to do that is through seeking support across the board," said Nasim Zehra, a prominent Pakistani political commentator in an interview with CBS News.
CBS News' Farhan Bokhari reported that Thursday's deadliest attack was a bomb blast in Hub, a town outside the southern port city of Karachi, which had remained relatively unscathed by the recent surge in violence.

The blast, now confirmed by police to have been a suicide attack, claimed the lives of 29 people, including seven policemen. The attack took place right after a group of Chinese engineers drove by the site, reports Bokhari.

The Chinese nationals were believed to be safe, but the casualties included policemen escorting them in a separate car.

Maj. Gen. Saleem Nawaz, a commander of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary, considered the outcome fortunate.

“It was laden with very heavy explosives, but due to our spacing and our security measures, Allah has been very kind,” Nawaz said on Dawn News television.

The police “sacrificed their lives and the Chinese friends were absolutely safe,” he said.

The blast ripped off the front of several roadside shops. Several damaged cars and buses lay rammed into one another among a tangle of bricks and clothing.

The US will pay dearly for Bush's support of Pervez Musharraf, a military dictator, for decades.

If anyone thinks Musharraf is going to control Pakistan for much longer, he is misguided. And, Pakistan really is an "Islamic extremist" nation. That has nukes.

It Bush's goal was to launch WW III, he has made an outstanding effort.

Pakistan:

"The separation in 1947 of British India into the Muslim state of Pakistan (with two sections West and East) and largely Hindu India was never satisfactorily resolved, and India and Pakistan fought two wars - in 1947-48 and 1965 - over the disputed Kashmir territory."

. . .

"following a military takeover on 12 October 1999, Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Pervez MUSHARRAF, suspended Pakistan's constitution and assumed the additional title of Chief Executive; on 12 May 2000, . . . ; "on 20 June 2001, MUSHARRAF named himself as president . . ."

Didn't Bush claim US soldiers are dying in Iraq because the US does not support dictators or "Islamic extremist" nations?

Is George Bush lying?

George Bush murdered every single person whose death resulted from the invasion of Iraq, including those brave young men and women he is currently murdering.

Watch as some neocon warmonger will now call for the need to invade Pakistan (Lieberman, Cheney, Rice, Bush himself?).

They appear to think that invasion and war is good for everyone - the best and only solution to problems. The only resource in the bag.

I personally have achieved as many international diplomatic successes as Rice - 0.

Al Qaeda, Iran, China, Russia, and Islamic terrorists in general must be more than pleased to see the world's only superpower so hamstrung by such a myopic policy.

Instead of being smart and finding ways to reduce terrorism, Bush and his ilk are bent on creating more terrorists through their policies.

A human tragedy of truly gargantuan proportions.

Musharraf is not a man to be admired, but at this point in time he needs to muster up his army and declare his own war on these Islamic vermin. He should welcome in American and NATO forced into the border areas and kill every terrorist and alQaeda sympathizer they find. These people are the plague and need to be eradicated.

As to Bush's WWIII, as a wacko Christian nut job, he thinks he gained power to bring on Armageddon.

It would be a sheer stupidity to say that Pakistan should invite NATO and US to fight in house insurgency. We have already seen that how much NATO and US have been successful in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
Doing so, will only make a second Iraq or perhaps a much dangerous Iraq. You dont know crazy Pakistanis. The issue must be resolved via political means and I am confident that together Mr. Bush and Musharaf will find a solution. They know better than us, when and what to do; otherwise we would be sitting in their offices. I BELIEVE I AM RIGHT, YO AGREE OR DISAGREE.

Sadly, Pakistan has fallen into Civil War, now that it is obvious that he has no military power in the border areas.

Musharraf has not done enough and now and I fear it will take Hydrogen Bombs to eliminate the Taliban and Al Qaida forces that have regrouped there since 2002.

I hear Usama is hiding in Iran.

More cases of terrorists 'baking' children cited

The issue has come into focus following a report from Michael Yon, a Special Forces soldier now in Iraq to report on the successes there. He told radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt he was inspired by a "news cycle that seems to pander toward the terrorists."

Yon, who has earned widespread respect as an independent journalist, reported that Iraqi officials told him about al-Qaida terrorists baking children and serving them to their families

He confirmed independently to WND that an Iraqi official had recounted for him instances in which the terrorists would bake a young boy, then invite his family to have lunch, with the baked child as the main course.

Being an Indian, I perfectly understand Pakistani politics. Don't worry there will be no WWIII. There will be no successful attacks from Osama. Many of you will be surprised if I would tell yuo a few facts about Pakistani politics. In Pakistani public had never allowed Islamists to make their government. Pakistani only support Islamists just to eliminate the army rule from the country. You can read their history (not on CBS news, BBC or CNN but on an indian website/resource or a Pakistani resource). After the Islamic Mollahs, remove their army dictator, they always say good bye to mollahs. I tell you that the Pakistanis watch full nude channels, they are lovers of Bollywood (Indian movies) stars, they watch Indian dramas,Indian movies and the list goes on and on.The violence that we have been watching in Pakistan are the result of Red Mosque. Over time, it will slow down. Believe me, that their public is as not as anti Western as we are given impression on media. At the moment, if they have sympathies with hard liners, as we say; then all these are upto the time, they change Musharaf aftet that they will only accept someone heading the government other than the same Islamic hardliners they supported.
The concern should be to establish peace in Pakistan to stop the deaths of those who are not supporting Islamic hardliners in Pakistan.

Pakistan expert winnerindia- Pakistan is not the same as you knew it thirty years ago. Don't forget that the Talibans in Afganistan was propped by Pakistan, not by others. The extremists have been ruling Pakistan for the last 15 to 20 years. According to their own columnists, the intellectuals are more extreme than the not-so-educated masses. Those intellectuals now dominate the army and the upper crust who form the policies; they want to dominate the middle east, and if possible, South Asia. Yes, and who asked and pressurised Pakistan to prop Talibans??? you should not be surprized, The United States.
So, I believe that in this game, U.S is an equal partner of Pakistan and hence it is also bound to pay the price by giving finances and armed support to the Pakistan army in order to curb Taliban. The U.S while it succeeded in fragmenting Russia, failed to control Taliban.
Interestingly, and it is good that the U.S government is helping Pakistan and ofcourse, why not, when it knows that it created the whole mess.

When the world was divided into Capitalist and Communist blocks, Paksitan's first Prime Minister Liaquat Khan decided to be a US ally. Since then Pakistani government is # 1 ally of United States.
It's true that the Talibans in Afganistan was propped by Pakistan, because Talibans were made by United States. When Soviet left Afghanistan, Afghanistan was number one producer of Opium in the world. United States CIA created Taliban whose religious belief forbids drug use including alcohal, in order to stop Drug Traficing from Paksitan to United States.

You wrote

Which part of Pakistan are you talking about?
Pakistan has four different states with four completely different cultures, completely different languages(not dialect), different skin colors(Northern Pakistanis are light skin Causcasion type people whereas south has dark skinned people). The most extremist elements are the light skinned Pushtun population who are HEBREW descendent CAUCASIAN people who make up the Talibans.

Musharraf who killed Mullahs for forbidding prostitution is much better then CHRISTIAN MULLAHs in United States who forbid women to choose Prostitution as a profession and forbid Homosexuals from their right of Marriage.

We first need to start war on our own soil against the PSYCHOTIC CHRISTIAN MULLAHs then think about fighting somewhere else.

Giving HETEROSEXUALS the right of marriage while denying same right for the HOMOSEXUAL CITIZENS is DISCRIMINATION BASED on SEXUAL ORIENTATION which is a violation of human right.

Allowing men to run on the street completely TOPLESS while arresting a woman for the same action in the name of INDECENT EXPOSURE, same action totally decent for a man to be so indecent for a woman because of being a woman, is nothing but GENDER-BASED DISCRIMINATION and violation of human rights.

This is exactly the same way ALqaeda and Taliban believe. Why shouldn't we first deal with the AMERICAN CHRISTIAN TALIBANS then go to other countries.

Blast in Kohat mosque kills 11 persons

Now, Pakistan has fallen into wrong hands. If we send our troops to hunt insurgents, would it mean to sacrifice the lives of our soldiers, or it would be O.K ?

lars008 ---- You want to talk about the Isreali Terrorist attack on the USS Liberty ???? --
- The C.O. of the USS Cole was found guilty of Dereliction of Duty, he was never authourized to take his ship there & failed to take required security precautions.

When did Clinton give MONEY and WEAPONS to ISLAMIC RADICALS for the killing of our troops?

When did Clinton give control of seven major ports to United Arab Emirates (a country whose ROYAL FAMILY MEMBERS were having lunch with OSAMA BEEN-FORGOTTEN when Clinton planned to execute him)?

Was it Clinton who transferred Halliburton head office and CEO to Dubai, UAE?

Is there any reasoning which lars going to accept?

Patriotic9,
stop saying BinLaden behind the twin towers attack. Copy and paste this in your URL and watch the movie. It's a complete document, like the ones you like to watch... I guess.

Related story: Bush Administration Threatens To Launch Attacks Into Pakistan.
Why in the h@ll would we bomb yet another country, alienate even more Muslims, kill more young Americans and innocent women and children, and spend more billions of dollars doing it.
How much more damage can this administration get us into?
I am filled with disgust at Bush and Cronies who so easily can put this counmtry in harms way for the next 100 years.
It boggles my mind to believe that the people in Washington will allow this to happen. Is there no common sense there?

j-whitman - Maybe if Clinton was more concerned with what was going on then trying to have *** with interns he would have been able to actually think clearly and get Bin Laden 15 years ago. Think about it. If back then they went after these pigs maybe we wouldn't be in the situiation that we're in.

Read "Against All Enemies" by Richard Clarke. This is not a partisan issue unless one makes it partisan. Bush erred by invading Iraq instead of going after Bin Laden who attacked us.

Kerry: No Bloodbath In Vietnam After US Redeployment
Sen. John Kerry said during a C-Span appearance that fears of a bloodbath after the US withdrawal from Vietnam never materialized. He says he's met survivors of the "reeducation camps" who are thriving in modern Vietnam. An award-winning investigation by the Orange County Register concludes that at least 165,000 people perished in the camps.
