(CBS/AP)  Police were searching for a soldier with sniper training who they suspect shot his wife to death while she sang with a band in a restaurant and bar.

Robin Munis was shot in the head just after midnight Saturday as she sang with the classic rock and country group Ty and the Twisters. Customers of the Old Chicago ran — to a bathroom, a walk-in refrigerator and anywhere else they could find cover — as a black pickup truck drove slowly out of the parking lot, then sped away.

"At first we thought it was just a speaker blowing up or something. I looked over and saw her on the floor," said Travis Brooks, who had been sitting at the bar.

Brooks said he was not sure where the gunshot came from when he saw the glass door break. He and others crawled toward the kitchen and took cover in a small bathroom.

"Everyone was in shock," he said. "I don't know what to think."

Munis, 40, had recently separated from her husband, David Munis, 36. She had complained about receiving a harassing telephone call from her husband Friday, police Capt. Jeff Schulz said.

Police suspect Munis was the shooter, Schulz said, though no one has reported seeing the shot fired.

"We're not certain where he was when he took the shot," Schulz said. "It could have been in the parking lot. It could have been a long ways away. We don't know that."

Munis joined the Wyoming Army National Guard in April 2003 and came from the regular Army, where he went to sniper school, Guard spokeswoman Deidre Forster said.

Forster said Munis' job is to promote Camp Guernsey, a military training area about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Cheyenne. He is due to become a second lieutenant next month, she said.

Munis was filmed discussing his work in 2005 by CBS affiliate KGWN-TV in Cheyenne.

Authorities believe Munis, a big hunter and avid outdoorsman, might have fled into the woods, KGWN-TV reported. Police also said Munis has relative in Montana and a friend at an army bass in Kentucky who they might want to stay in touch with, the CBS affiliate reported.

The shooting left members of Cheyenne's music scene stunned and saddened, reported the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. Friends described Robin Munis as a consummate professional musician, a dedicated mother, and someone who helped people who have disabilities, the paper reported.

"Robin was the kindest, warmest and most loving person," Eve Ashley, who plays electric bass with Munis' band, told the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. "She never dwelt on the negative."

Some of the ill informed comments here are saddening and ignorant to say the least. The vitriol directed against the military for being the cause even moreso. I am a combat decorated infantryman having served in two different theaters of operation. I find this story tragic and sad but to BLAME the military for being responsible is sheer ignorance. Wrestler Chris Benoit wasnt in the military and neither are the VAST majority of estranged spouses who have committed similar acts.
The sad fact is that certain jobs can ATTRACT certain personality types. People like Munis are ATTRACTED to jobs that let them act out their compulsions but the military doesnt CREATE that.
In ANY group, military or otherwise, there will be those who are unstable so to try and pigeon hole all military as being murderers screams to ME of your lack of education and objectiveness. The world is full of tragedy and sick people but to denegrate people such as myself who have sacrificed a lot to keep arm chair sociologists such as yourself safe is deplorable, ignorant and barely worthy of the time or the response I have given it. I choose to turn MY thoughts and prayers to the family left behind and leave you to wallow in your ignorance. Sleep safely knowing that better and braver have sacrificed much to give you that ability.
Infantry and Proud.

Once the military dehumanizes you and teaches you to kill the enemy, you are forever a murder and look to murder as the ultimate solution.

How sad for the son, they didn't mention any other children.
This guy sounds like he is "Rambo" style crazy. If he did actually head for the woods, I wouldn't doubt if he sets traps and starts sniping everything that comes at him!
The guy is whack!! Whether it is the husband or not.
Didn't someone somewhere notice anything amiss in this guy?
Oh, that's right, they put the crazies in charge, I forgot.

glb has no clue. Obviously a home bound hero with no military experience. I was in Nam and certainly don't consider myself or any of my team "dehumanized". What an idiot.

Excuse me? I was in the military from 1971 to 1975, (remember Vietnam), and I have killed a total of zero people since then. You are a total jackass!

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!! This nut is NOT going to read this comments section...and be miraculously convinced to give himself up, and DJmo1...what the?!!!!!!!! You've seen too many CSI episodes and think you actually have brains enough to offer a scientific opinion!? The right calibur, the right grain bullet, the right spot...no puny plate glass is gonna get in the way. Geez!!!!!!!!!

The fact is there's idiots out in our world...yes the same world you drive/live/work/play in that will pop at any moment because they never acquired the tools to deal with life's challenges. I was witness to one at a coffee shop in souh Kansas City. This guy just drove up, in a car he took from the 67 year old lady he just killed in her house for turning him in for weeds that were too tall in his yard, and then made a quick stop at a convenience store to shoot a KC cop. When he got to the Mall he popped two people in the parking lot and went inside to find more! He knew NONE OF THESE PEOPLE!!!

So the guy getting divorced from his now dead wife is a small fry in the nut job "Big Picture". He couldn't handle rejection...she's movin' on, singing and having fun...he snaps and kills her. And don't give me this Iraq/Bush *** to blame. You want to see something that screws with your mind, you shoulda been in Vietnam watching "Aussie Interrogators" popping Charlie's head off with piano wires.

I don't get why all these people are clamoring to say "Whoa. Let's not rush to judge here." You have a cop with sniper training, whether they want to admit to it now or not, that's probably about to get divorced. A wife killed with a single head shot at long range and he suddenly can't be found for two days. Either Mr. Munis is guilty or he's the least luckiest guy on the planet.

And Jetranger, I'd suggest looking for a few good tax attorneys. You are sooo audited right now.

"Well I say relocate this man to the Washinton DC area, and let him live across from the white house, by all means, do us all a favor, I'm sure many Government workers would appreciate it too ! Hopefully he's just practicing for the real McCoy ! :):):):):)

The police appear to be real *** Tracy's:

"(Policeman) Schulz said Munis received sniper training from the military, but (military) Forster said she didn't know whether he did."

(translation: he must be a sniper because the police built their whole case around him being one)

"We are working solely on him being the suspect," Schulz said at a news conference. He described David Munis as "very dangerous."

(translation: we don't need no stinking evidence, he's guilty because we said so)

Sure hope the guy mananges to make it to trial, and, gets a fair trial if Schulz and his fellow vigilantes ever take him into custody.

It appears someone should investigate Schulz as a suspect.

David Munis,

GIVE YOURSELF UP. IF YOU CONTINUE TO RUN YOU WILL ONLY BE CAUGHT TIRED. "YOU PICK THE PLACE I'LL PICK THE TIME" ISN'T THIS A SNIPER MOTTO?

THIS ALSO APPLIES TO YOU IF YOU CONTINUE TO RUN, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE CAUGHT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF WHEN.
