Louisiana Bans Late-Term Abortions
La. Is First State Outlaw Procedure; Exception To Made Only If Mother's Life Is Threatened

Interactive Abortion Debate It's one of the most hotly debated political and social issues in America. Review a history of that debate since the historic Roe v. Wade decision.
The new law allows the procedure only when the mother's life would be endangered without it. It would be a crime in all other cases, including when the pregnancy is expected to cause health problems for the mother.
The statute mirrors a federal ban that President Bush signed into law in 2003 and upheld in April by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Lawmakers in other states are expected to consider similar bans. Louisiana is the first to enact one, according to the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights, an abortion-rights group.
Under the Louisiana legislation, doctors face fines of between $1,000 and $10,000, and jail terms of between one and 10 years.
The procedure is the subject of angry debate between anti-abortion groups, who support state bans, and abortion-rights groups, who opposed the federal ban and have fought state bans.
Planned Parenthood officials argued against the Louisiana ban in legislative committee hearings, but received a chilly response from lawmakers. Only a handful of legislators voted against the bill.
Anti-abortion activists call the procedure "partial-birth abortion"; surgeons and abortion rights activists call it "dilation and extraction." It involves partially removing the fetus intact from a woman's uterus, then puncturing or crushing the skull.
The Democratic governor on Monday signed legislation requiring that all women seeking an abortion be notified that fetuses can feel pain by 20 weeks gestation, and doctors who perform the procedure to discuss the availability of painkillers for fetuses.
Supporters said that legislation would provide important information to women seeking abortions — and that it could help stop abortions. Opponents say doctors don't agree on whether fetuses can feel pain at 20 weeks.

As for all those j*ck*ss*s who cry for a mothers right to chose - she should not be f*ck*ng having s*x in the first place if she cannot support the child. Also, tell the guys out there that if they cannot be real men and stand up to their responsibilities, then they will be castrated while the girl is having the abortion.
Or they can just do as the couple mentioned in another CBS News article did - STARVE THEM TO DEATH!
D*MB*SSES!

"Pilgrimsway"? LMFAO At least this troglodyte is honest about wanting to take us back 400 years. Yeah- great idea. Women who have no rights. Mothers who are baby factories worth less than a good horse, Witch burning (George Bush and his Christian TALIBAN must be salivating at THAT idea!), no modern medicine (none of that bothersome stem cell research), teaching Creationism in schools, the government as an arm of the local church, killing off the natives, stockades in the public square, life expectancy of 40 years, subsistence living, religious laws....
yes, these yahoo morons can't wait to send us back to the stone age. It is so much easier to control the population with made up fairy tales (christianity) and lies (Repuglicans like Bush and Rove) when the population is kept ignorant and the women are shut up and nothing more than baby factories.
You knuckle-dragging single-wide morons keep mouthing Faux-news (official government) propaganda. Every time we hear it we know all your tiny brains can handle is to listen are repeat whatever your masters tell you. What a disappointment you must be to the pigs that gave you birth. Time to "harvest" some meat. ROFLMFAO
Thank you for indicating the source of your information. While I understand why you would believe that Planned Parenthood would be an unbiased source, I would have to respectfully disagree, since they are the number one abortion provider in the country, and the largest lobby for pro-abortion laws outside the United States. It is true that Planned Parenthood is places a higher priority on Birth Control than on Abortion, but they still provide more abortion services than any other group in the US.
Just as I would be suspect of any information on abortion from groups like Focus on the Family, or Operation Rescue; I am suspect of any information from NARAL, Planned Parenthood or the Guttmacher Institute.

They are from Planned Parenthood, but I don't consider them to be biased since their main mission is not abortion, but rather contraception, they have no reason to skew their results.
'Almost exclusively late term abortions are performed on women who want to have the baby, but must abort for health or lifesaving reasons.'
'Most women use birth control such as the pill or condoms and only an infinitesimally tiny percent use abortion as birth control.'
Do you have any sources that are not from someone with a bias (i.e., Planned Parenthood, Focus on The Family, or an abortion provider)? Or are these statements nothing more than your opinions?
Thanks to Bush, Cheney, Delay and all their ilk the USA is finally ours, folks!!!

This is a odd statement coming from someone who claims to be a Palestinian living near the West Bank on a olive farm.

LOL! It is an odd statement if think Palestinians are just a bunch of dirty and stinky terrorists hiding in caves ready to create trouble for no good reason.
I also happen to be an atheist. But that's what nations are, a compilation of different people sharing a language and a culture.
It's not as if we are an ideological movement demanding every one look and think the same.
Having said that I am the most liberal member in my family. But I tell you, even Hamas people find me amusing. Some of them have spent hours with me trying to understand why I'm an atheist but they sure don't seem to mind it.
It's my mother who's in denial so I have to take her to church once in a while... sigh. The rest of my family is, like, "Whatever you do just don't get caught, OK?"
Just two more things: 1) I am a naturalized American citizen. And 2) Whenever I criticize our government in the US I'm well aware of the shortcomings all the Arab governments have so it's never been my intention to say the US is worse than anyone else.
We are just having an argument on abortion, that's all.

This is a classic case of the American Taliban. Folks I grew up in the 50's and 60's and without a doubt they were FAR more Immoral during that time than we are today. Some scared Teen wanted an Abortion then, she was getting it from some back ally and many times died. These Wacked out LOSERS are so intent on forcing their religion down our throats that they will make SURE that any Scared Teenager or Desperate Mother is going to pay the PRICE for not following them. Keep in mind folks these are the SAME people who burned Cross's on Saturday Nights as the Bombed Churches and Lynched People. Moral??? What a joke!! Sieg Heil Y'all.

THIS is the best you can do??? Okay that's it! You are to go back to the Pat Robertson Hood and Sheet School for the mentally depraved for SIX, count them, SIX months!! You people truly are worse than the Taliban... much worse!! Sieg Heil Bush!!
Naw- I just recognize an holier than thou azz who wants to tell everyone else how to live. No doubt you are so much more enlightened than everyone else that your beliefs and experience should trump the conscience and beliefs of everyone else. really- you should try finding a more suitable environment. China, Russia, Nazi Germany, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the like are much closer to your view of how a society should be controlled by theire respective versions of the TALIBAN, be it islamic, Fascist, or Christian.
