(CBS)  Your backyard grass can take a beating this time of year: It's hot, and there's extra traffic from the house to the grill, garden, flower bed or pool.

You don't want dirt tracks across your yard, so The Early Show's home improvement expert, Danny Lipford, showed Wednesday how to make a path that's decorative as well as protective.

He outlined six main steps.
