Jordanian Gets 6 Months For Slaying Sister

Court Cites Murderer's "State Of Fury" In Justifying His Light Sentence For "Honor Killing"

(AP)  A Jordanian court on Monday sentenced a man to six months in prison for slaying his pregnant sister — an "honor killing" that the man said was necessary to uphold his family's reputation.

The court justified the lenient sentence to the "state of fury" that led to the killing of the woman.

According to the court, when the man's sister revealed to her brother that she was five-month pregnant with her former husband's child, he began chasing her in the house and pulled on her scarf to strangle her. He then put a pillow on her head and sat on it until she died.

The court considered that the woman's confession angered her brother and pushed him to act in an irrational way. The court also said the woman's "shameful behavior" deviated from the traditions of Jordanian society and harmed her family's honor.

The court acquitted the brother from the responsibility of killing the unborn baby, saying that he did not intend to kill the baby when he suffocated his sister.

In Jordan, an average of 20 women are killed in "honor killings" by male relatives each year. Men have the final say in all family matters in the largely conservative Muslim society, where many consider sex out of wedlock an indelible stain on a family's reputation.

Some women in conservative circles of society have been killed simply for dating.

Courts and authorities do not release the names of people involved in honor killing cases.

International human rights organizations have condemned honor killings in Jordan and appealed to the country's ruler, King Abdullah II, to put an end to the practice.

The government urged judges to consider honor killings equal to other homicides, punishable with up to 15 years in prison. But many judges still hand down lenient punishment to such killers.

Attempts to introduce harsher sentences for honor killings have been blocked in Jordan's parliament, where the predominantly conservative lawmakers argue that lesser penalties would lead to tolerating promiscuity.

I bet in that society the women have a lot more dignity, and are the pride of their families.

Over here, so many of our women are just cheap loose hoz, and therefore useless in raising good children who then turn to drugs and delinquency.

Even so, the killing is excessive and barbaric; especially since the woman is fcuking her ex-husband.

This is an abomination of women's rights in the world. It also shows how barbaric the muslim religion really is. If these women had a choice they would live here in America.

It is time for the women to do their own honor killings of the men who have killed!!!

UN: killing sisters & daughters & wives

Reports submitted to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights show that honor killings have occurred in Bangladesh, Great Britain, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Morocco, Sweden, Turkey, and Uganda. In countries not submitting reports to the UN, the practice was condoned under the rule of the fundamentalist Taliban government in Afghanistan, and has been reported in Iraq and Iran

I can't believe he's only getting 6 months for killing his sister. He should get life in prison.

Maybe if the oil dries up in that part of the world quick enough, we will be able to clear the area for a huge parking lot?

rushman71 - another one of my favorites: Since Islamic men can't control their hormones, they make the women suffer by covering them head to toe. Seems like the men have a great fear of women over there. Islamic women are treated worse than American pets.

Good old Islam - - out of wedlock *** on earth is punishable by death. But, if you murder innocent people who are not Muslim, you can have out of wedlock *** in heaven with 72 virgins. That makes sense!!!

In the Islamic culture, the men rule, and the women are nothing more than dogs to them. Kind of sick, don't ya think. That's one of the many reasons why I am proud to be an American, no matter who's in the office.

Extremism is same in all three religions: Judaism, Christianism, and Islam. Good reading.

Part #2 of comment cut short because of posting limit:

And the hookers in the UAE got to be the ugliest women in the world. Russian scanks with makeup about an eighth of an inch thick, caked on, over layers of this fine dusty sand that gets into everything.

Then they act all honorable and claim that their word is their bond, then they lie like they get paid for every falsehood coming out of their mouths. THEN when they finally drive you crazy with lies and you start yelling, they claim that you don't understand their cultural differences, like it's your fault!

Once in the middle of working out a deal, one of the Arab mothers tells me that if he were to claim that I put my hand on his knee, I'd go to prison for 17 years! What kind of insane s**t is that?!

Screw that part of the world! If it were to blow up tomorrow, I doubt that I'd ever miss it!

Prinzowhales, you are missing the entire point of the article. %u201CSorry bunch of savages%u201D refers to the judge, legislators, etc. who say that killing your pregnant sister elicits just 6 months in jail. The whole concept of justice, fairness, and equal treatment in the middle east needs to be overhauled. And if they cannot do it themselves, then Adam the Atom needs to do it and we can start over with a blank slate.

"Has there ever been an honor killing of a man who sullied his family%u2019s reputation?"

Oh yeah!

I was doing business with a company in the UAE, visited there, and had an engineer come here to LA. I took him to my favorite Hollywood bar where he asked if we had any homosexuals in the U.S. I told him that we did and that they have rights.

I then asked if they have any in the UAE or his home country of Jordan. He said they do, and that if the family doesn't kill them the state will.

He did correct himself to say that if they never committed an "act" they just go to prison for something like 17 years. But if they do have *** with a guy, they're dead meat.

Then he went nuts later on ranting about how messed up our country is, because we frown on first cousins marrying each other and allow homosexuals to live!

Seems most marriages there are arranged and are to one of your first cousins...

...this could account for them having no sense of humor that I could detect, and being idiot stupid even though he has a degree in electrical engineering. Dummy probably couldn't fix a flashlight if the only problem were dead batteries.

How exactly did he "not intend" to kill the unborn child when he murdered his sister? Did he think the kid was going to just jump out unharmed?

I would wager that women are safer on the streets of Amman than in any major city in the United States.

Yeah, I guess as long as you're covered from head to toe and keep your mouth shut. I am familiar with the case you speak of. And yes, they are mindless savages, as well. Interesting....as that was a black on white crime, it got VERY LITTLE coverage......except locally. Wonder why?

A scant few months ago, a couple were carjacked in Knoxville, Tennessee...they were sodomized, raped, tortured, mutilated over a period of days. "What a sorry bunch of savages."

As noted in the article, Jordon is trying to move away from this legacy--America, with its 'entertainment' industry controlled by Anglo-American capital, works to denigrate women at every opportunity. The Arabs are still trying to maintain the family against the onslaught of post-Western nihilism. They have their failures--20 a year in Jordan.

How many American men murder their wives and children and then kill themselves? Why? Because they 'are a sorry bunch of savages'? I would wager that women are safer on the streets of Amman than in any major city in the United States.
