Fireworks Spark Deadly Shootings

(CBS/AP)  A neighbor apparently angry about fireworks at a noisy Fourth of July party shot three people to death early Thursday and wounded two others, police said.

Terrance Hough Jr., a 35-year-old off-duty firefighter, was arrested in connection with the shootings, police spokesman Lt. Thomas Stacho said.

No charges had been filed Thursday morning because police were still gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, Stacho said. There was no phone listing for Hough's address.

Police had received a number of complaints in recent years about loud parties, fireworks and drag racing connected to the house where the victims were shot, Stacho said. Some complaint calls came from Hough's address, but no one called police about the party Thursday night.

The neighbors were throwing a party when two men and a woman, all in their 20s, were shot to death shortly after midnight, Stacho said. He said another man was shot in the elbow and a woman was wounded in the hand.

A police officer who lives nearby heard the shooting and arrested Hough, Stacho said. CBS station WOIO-TV reports that a search of Hough's home turned up 12 guns – seven handguns and five rifles.

"I came out of my house, looked over here and I seen the three kids lying there," said neighbor Al Thomas. "Some girl was crying and screaming, 'They killed my friend, my friend."

The area of neat ranch homes overlooking the industrial Cuyahoga River valley is popular among firefighters and police officers who are required to live in the city.

In another incident near Seattle, a man was shot during an argument at a fireworks celebration and later died. Fire officials said the scene was so hostile and unsafe when they arrived that they had to transport the victim to another location to continue treating him, reports CBS station KIRO-TV.

More than 100 people were present when the two men began arguing around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot in Skyway, an unincorporated area between Seattle and Renton, Wash. Paramedics called after the shooting found the crowd so threatening that they had to quickly take the wounded man out to continue CPR, said David Nelson, a spokesman for county Fire District 20.

The victim was identified only as a man in his thirties.

Sheriff's Detective Bob L. Conner said it was unclear whether moving the man before continuing CPR was a factor in his death. King County sheriff's deputies were searching for the suspect.

"You would be right about me not being a U.S. citizen, I thank God for that everday! You have one screwed up country!" Posted by erasmus6 at 08:09 PM : Jun 26, 2007

erasmus6, if you think we have a "screwed up country" why do you read U.S. news? Nothing exciting going on in Canada except for your pot-smoking neighbors?

Maybe you should move to Texas where guns are legal (everyone carries one) and pot is not. LOL!!!

You never did tell me what a dominion is.

I have these idiots that live in the house beside me. Their two sons always go in their shed and smoke pot. Not only does it stink but I have to constantly hear them hacking up a lung, spitting etc.
So in this nice weather it would be nice to go and sit outside but hearing them makes me sick. And if I want to open my windows then the smell comes in the house. They are smoking it all day long.
Now I wonder if I should get out my gun and shoot them? OOPS, I forgot I can't do that because I don't own a gun, BECAUSE it is against the law. I could go over there and attempt to stab them, but considering there is two of them that might be difficult, they could end up getting me. Hmmmm, maybe I should phone the cops and report the Bast-ards.

GET MY POINT?

The problem with guns is it makes killing easier. To kill someone with a knife or whatever is a lot harder. Take away the guns and you will have far less killings.

I think you are missing the point here. GUNS DON'T KILL JUST SITTING THERE..PEOPLE DO..PEOPLE KILL. You could ban evry thing but if a person is bent on killing you bet he/she will. How, well you are not dumb. THE HANDS, DEAR. YEP. I won't tell you how. It helps to see. My vet room mate told me how it is done. And the nails on the hand well dear what do you think. The teeth, well their for eating but what do you think. Guns, knives, rocks, they over look the hands, feet, teeth, nails. Guys yer guns they can grab that and turn on you and you will cry like a baby. When it is used on you , you think you be shown mercy,no way. They will kill you and think nothink of it. That is the real world, boys.
