Reality Star Said To Be Expecting A Child With Joel Madden; Planning To Wed This Summer

(CBS)  Reality TV star Nicole Richie is expecting her first child, the Web site TMZ reports, citing sources close to Richie.

In Touch magazine is also reporting that Richie, 25, is planning to marry her boyfriend, Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, this summer.

A rep for Richie told The ShowBuzz in an email on Tuesday that "we have nothing to report."

Rumors have been swirling for weeks that the "Simple Life" star — the daughter of Lionel Richie — is pregnant.

A source told Celebrity Baby Blog on June 17 that Richie and Madden were expecting a baby due in January.

"We received a tip from a source who had been very reliable in the past that Nicole was still in her first trimester and that although she and Joel had hoped it would keep her out of jail for her DUI charge, it wasn't why she got pregnant," Celebrity Baby Blog's Danielle Friedland told The Showbuzz.

The news comes just days before a scheduled court appearance. Richie was arrested in December for driving while under the influence after she was spotted driving the wrong way on a highway. She entered a not guilty plea in February and is due in court on July 11.

Richie recently told David Letterman that she's hoping she won't follow her friend Paris Hilton to the slammer.

"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, of course," she said on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" last month. "I'm scared also, but I'm willing to face whatever consequences come my way and I take responsibility for what I've done."

This is going to be a long, arduous process of elimination, but I will get the ball rolling by revealing that I am not the father.

Somebody on another site was joking that now Nicole's going to have to eat for one - lol. People are also wondering whether because she's so thin the court might be worried about a miscarriage happening while she's in jail and them being held liable and looking bad. Then again, jailtime would ensure that she stays drug-free while she's pregnant.

Tough call if you're a judge because she even admits she intentionally got pregnant AFTER she was arrested. Like she KNEW with a second offense that the sentencing guidelines dictate a mandatory minimum sentence of 90 days for the DUI alone. I hope when she decided to get pregnant she considered the possibility that she might have to spend part of her time in jail and that she'd be under their medical care . . . it'd be terrible to think that she didn't give any thought to her child's welfare and only thought of herself. Then again, maybe the medical care for inmates is just fine. I used to tutor a kid who was born in jail and she was just AWESOME :)

I mean, if you are above caing how skinny she is or whether or not she is pregnant or why she is having a baby, why are you spending time reading articles and posting comments about it. it is pathetic and ridiculous. and yes i am young and yes it interested me so i read about it but i am not about to pretend that i am sooo above it abd so much better than her. and i admit it instead of trying to validate my existence by critisizing hers

The fact that she got pregnant when she is skin and bone is pathetic. I am amazed that it happened. If the baby manages to make it to full term it will be a miracle. If it does it will probably have birth defects. Also, isn't she still doing drugs?

RIIIGHT - the news just happened to be released "just days before a scheduled court appearance" for her DUI case. Maybe I am a little cynical (ok, a LOT cynical) but it seems to me that I read this girl was going the wrong way on the freeway, had drugs and alcohol in her system and TOLD the policeman she had been drinking and drugging. Now, this surefire sympathy getting condition comes up, and we are supposed to believe that she didn't PLAN it to try to get out of jail time? PUHLEEZE!
You could only hope that the judge for her hearing is a lot smarter than that - but, hey, this is Hollywood folks. They have a completely different justice system out there than here in the rest of the country - it just might WORK!!!

If that is the real reason she got pregnant, then that is just sick. And the last time I checked, just because you are pregnant does not mean you won't go to jail. There are pregnant women imprisoned and actually give birth in prison. So this little stunt, if it is actually true, may not work. Nothing in life is guaranteed.
