(CBS)  Panama hats don't really come from Panama, any more than Guniea Pigs come from Guinea.

They come from central Ecuador.

They simply got misnamed when Teddy Roosevelt was seen sporting them down at the Panama Canal.

Once Hollywood became infatuated, Panama's ascended to the very symbol of style and glamour.

Phil Koeghan visited Ecuador to get the lowdown on Panama hat production.

Koeghan wants to thank Avianca Airlines (www.avianca.com) for its assistance in getting him to Ecuador, and the Ecuadorian Tourism Bureau (www.vivecuador.com) for its help on the ground.

Also, Brent Black (www.brentblack.com), a leading purveyor of Panamas.
