Facts about Alzheimer's, help for caregivers and a look at sufferers who've put the disease in the spotlight.

(AP)  More than 26 million people worldwide have Alzheimer's disease, and a new forecast says the number will quadruple by 2050.

At that rate, one in 85 people will have the brain-destroying disease in 40 years, researchers from Johns Hopkins University conclude.

The new estimates, being presented Sunday at an Alzheimer's Association conference in Washington, are not very different from previous projections of the looming global dementia epidemic with the graying of the world's population.

But they serve as a sobering reminder of the toll to come if scientists cannot find better ways to battle Alzheimer's and protect aging brains.

“If we can make even modest advances in preventing Alzheimer's disease, or delay its progression, we could have a huge global public health impact,” said Johns Hopkins public health specialist Ron Brookmeyer, who led the new study.

The biggest jump is projected for densely populated Asia, home of almost half of today's Alzheimer's cases, 12.6 million. By 2050, Asia will have 62.8 million of the world's 106 million Alzheimer's patients, the study projects.

A recent U.S. study estimated that this nation's Alzheimer's toll will reach 16 million by 2050, compared with more than 5 million today. The new estimate is significantly lower, suggesting only 3.1 million North American cases today and 8.8 million by 2050.

Among the estimates for other regions are:

  • Africa, 1.3 million today and 6.3 million in 2050.

  • Europe, 7.2 million and 16.5 million.

  • Latin America and the Caribbean, 2 million and 10.8 million.

  • Oceania, 200,00 and 800,000.

The project was funded by Elan Pharmaceuticals and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Why do you think these pharmaceuticals are fighting with all their might stem cell research. All we have to do is sit on the steps of congress and watch and count the lobbyist for pharmaceuticals walking so jauntily up those steps and our protectors of the laws in this country holding out their hand so greedily

The time is now for a anti-Big Pharma revolution, their corruption is almost beyond comprehension, it's time we built the gallows.

    No gallows are need chum.

    It's time for PROJECT LEAPFROG!
Take over all top dogs--in management, on the board, as well as owners.
    SRR Missions in multiplicity:
    Sedate, Remove, Relocate
Do not hurt, harm, or torment---simply sedate them. Do NOT Kill Them--(too easy.)
Remove their bodies from all they have come to know, including their clothing and all body hair.
Relocate them to a safe place--where they cannot communicate with anyone for any reason.
Put them in a secret colony--like the CIA has secret prisons...same theme, zero abuse.
Once all pharmaceuticals have been removed, move on to the cigarette companies. Then tackle the auto industry and the insurance industry and the real estate industry. Keep moving.

Research by two Pharmaceuticals tells us that dementure is on the increase. What a revelation, I'm bloody speechless at this mind blowing information. Did they tell us why? of course not, they do not wish to expose their fellows in crime, like the producers of ASPARTAME, or SPLENDOR, or why we have to put their chemicals like Alluminium Salts and Flouride in our water supplies. Lace our food with every type of man made poison they can make a few extra bucks out of. Then when we get sick they fill us with more bloody unproven, FDA sanctioned junk, whilst at the same time successfully lobbying government to ban any Natural cure they cannot obtain a patent on. The time is now for a anti-Big Pharma revolution, their corruption is almost beyond comprehension, it's time we built the gallows.

' ... what did the terrorist say to the other terrorist? should we tell everyone the u.s.a. is innvesting all their money in those who feed the world by makeing everyone pay for lunch, their votes in those who tax everyone at gunpoint to end slavery, and their market share in all but the most vulnerable: infants and toddlers, and dancing get sick soon tax the world first strike on the trail songs instead of get well soon feed the world first aid on the trail songs? ... and the second terrorist responds: why?, they'd never believe us, anyway ... Does the increase in victims follow the increase proportionally to the increase in population?

Also, Asia's combined population is give-or-take 4 billion. That's 4000.0 million. 62.8 million is peanuts by comparison. ;-)

We're assuming we're all going to make it alive and happy by 2050 as well. Well, the Asians will be - look at offshoring...
