(CBS)  The United States should launch military strikes against Iran if the government in Tehran does not stop supplying anti-American forces in Iraq, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday on Face The Nation.

"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman told Bob Schieffer. "And to me, that would include a strike into... over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."

The Indepedent former Democrat from Connecticut said that he was not calling for an invasion of Iran, but he did say the U.S. should target specific training camps.

"I think you could probably do a lot of it from the air, but they can't believe that they have immunity for training and equipping people to come in and kill Americans," Lieberman said.

Lieberman, who has been one of Congress's most outspoken supporters of the Bush administration's Iraq war policies, said that continuing the fight in Iraq and confronting Iran are necessary for achieving a wider peace in the Middle East.

If the U.S. does not act against Iran, "they'll take that as a sign of weakness on our part and we will pay for it in Iraq and throughout the region and ultimately right here at home," Lieberman said.

He said that he has seen evidence that the Iranians are supplying insurgents and foreign fighters in Iraq.

"By some estimates, they have killed as many as 200 American soldiers," he said.

The Senator said he was not calling for an end to the limited diplomatic efforts that are underway between Washington and Tehran.

"We can tell them we want them to stop that, but if there's any hope of the Iranians living according to the international rule of law and stopping, for instance, their nuclear weapons development, we can't just talk to them," Lieberman said. "If they don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."

Iran backed Shiite militia has killed some 200 of our 3500 dead and al Qaeda Sunnis supported by Saudi Arabia killed some 3300 American troops and Lieberman is all fired ready invade or bomb Iran?

Even Fox News disavows Lieberman by calling him a Democrat when it was Republican money and votes that kept him in office.

Senator Lieberman has the vision to see where Irans nuclear ambitions are leading to, he knows to bury our heads in the sand and do nothing shall require the world to pay a terrible price in the future. just note the utter contempt Iran continues to display for international opinion. If they are allowed to get the bomb you might as well give it to Hamas for they are equally fanatical and capable of anything. When the gun is put to the heads of weak leaders they will capitulate, even more readily and openly than they are doing now.

First off, stop the pathetic Bush bashing. Grow UP!

Secondly, face reality.
Posted by beamsplitter

There's no reason to stop the bashing, but you're correct, bush is pathetic.

As to facing reality, if your pathetic bush were able to do so there'd be fewer reasons to bash him.
Some of the realities that he has avoided:
1. He can't ignore our Constitution at will
2. A delusional person who thinks that all must bend to his will for the country and the world to be saved can be said to have a Messianic complex (back in Texas the technical term is crazy as a bushit house rat). PS He is delusional.
3. He has destroyed his credibility.
4. He and Ahmadinejad are like the opposite sides of the same coin. They are more alike than either could admit (note their stridency and hubris).
5. Bin Laden and AlQaeda weren't in Iraq until his policies gave them entry
6. Saddam wasn't a threat.
7. If we bomb Iran, their Shia brothers in Iraq, whom we put in power will probably turn against our troops.
8. His solution for our troops caught in that crossfire between Iranians and Iraqis, which is having them duck down so that the others shoot each other only works in cartoons.

lieberman is no Independent, he is a dyed in the whool Republican and a puppet of George Bush, he is also deaf, dumb and blind!! When you have someone like Colin Powell who says the Iraq War was a mistake and that diplomacy needs to be used in the middle east why would anyone pay attention to a short, ugly, uninformed, senator from Conn ??

With Lieberman--it's all about religion--goes back to just about the beginning of time.

We need to get out of Iraq and let these killers in the name of God keep killing each other.

Lieberman--you want to beat the Muslims? Go do it with the Israli Army--not out Americans.

I strongly believe that Conn. Senator Lieberman is completely right when he said that the United States should launch military strikes against Iran if the government in Tehran does not stop supplying anti-American forces in Iraq, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday on Face The Nation. It is past time to just rattle the saber. We need to cut the head of the snake off. We turned our governmental head in 1938 when Hitler rolled thru parts of Europe and didn't do anything about it until the *** attacked us in 1941 and then look at how many more Americans had to die on the beachs of Normandy because we waited so long to cut the head of the snake off. When is America going to wake up and realize that from time to time there are crazy people that become heads of state of racical countrys. It took 2 atomic bombs to get Japans attention. Are we going to wait until that crazy Iranian idiot develops a long range missile with an atomic bomb before we decide to attack him. Then my fellow Americans will realize that we should have called up the draft 4 years ago and really build up our military forces to a real fighting level. I am a Vietnam War Veteran who had spent a considerable amount of time in military hospitals in Vietnam during that war which was a big mistake. But attacking Iran would not be any kind of a mistake. The president of Iran is just another Hitler and the world needs to get rid of him.

Notice that Lieberman has shown no concern whatsoever that the nation was lied into war by the dry-drunk Chimp-in-Chief and his handlers. One would think that this would give a stateman pause...till one remembers that Senator Lieberman is no statesman, but a step-and-fetch for the New World Order whose masters are dead set on seizing Iran's oil assets.

From Lieberman, there is no concern about the 3500 servicemen who are officially counted as KIA by the Washington Regime. From Lieberman there is only concern about blaming Iran for those 200 killed "by some estimates".

The Senator for Finance Capital, Squander, Lie and Betray was elected by the citizens of Connecticutt--shame on them!

Explain your position, on one board you are fighting racism (immigration issue) on this board it appears you are supporting racism against the Hebrews. Clarify.

I do not support racism against anyone. Being against the secular government of Israel is not the same as being anti-Semitic. I disagree strongly with blind US support of Israel as I feel that as long as we continue to support them without question, they'll continue to take advantage of our support to resist a homeland for the Palestinians.

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm glad Lieberman never became VP. This guy, as it turns out, is the flag-bearer for the war mongers in Washington DC. He will surely get a nice Christmas...ooops, Holiday card from Mr. Cheney and his apprentice (George).
Again, Joe, where does diplomacy fit in?
Oh, you believe diplomacy simply won't work. Therefore, put it back in the drawer, start bombing Iran, and put our troops in a situation closely resembling disaster. Smart. This would be much the same way George thought when he was playing with his cap guns and said, "Let's attack Iraq."
If our President authorizes bombing Iran, there will be new faces on America's Most Wanted posters, and their last known addresses will be 1600 Pennsylvania.

Put your shirt on it, Israel will nuke Iran sooner rather than later,
Posted by DRinUK at 09:31 PM : Jun 11, 2007

That goes without saying. The radicals in the Islamic religion want this war in the worst way. They see it the same way extremist in my own religion see it. Everybody is so sure they can force God to do their will. They do not understand that prophesy not withstanding, God (whosever) will do what HE wants WHEN HE wants. Not when they want. The stupids don't control God. Not one of the Deitic scriptures (Quran, Talmud, Torah, Nevi'im, New Testament) tells them that, but they keep trying.

They stole a country in 1947 and have caused untold suffering ever since, they are not God's Chosen, they are the real issue, they are the problem.

You do know, of course, that the lunatic religious right-wing here in the States blindly support Israel because they believe their survival is key to the 2nd coming of Christ. In other words, they're insane, so they aren't going to respond to any form of rational thought. Maybe we could fight fire with fire and create a new book in the bible that'll tell them that Israel isn't all that important? I mean they believe the garbage in the bible is real already, so if we could cook up another fairy tale and "find" it and get it added to the book of fables they might buy it too?

Put your shirt on it, Israel will nuke Iran sooner rather than later, in doing so they will bring the world as we know it to it's knees. Instead of supporting Israel, America should give them a good slap before it's too late for the sake of all of us. They stole a country in 1947 and have caused untold suffering ever since, they are not God's Chosen, they are the real issue, they are the problem.

I am aware of what was said, I am speaking of the perception of the main stream Jew. I am not saying that they are right, I am saying that I do not want to glow in the dark just before I die because some Jihadist extremist got a 'Bomb' from Iran or anywhere to use on Israel and that kicks off WWIII (otherwise known as Armegeddon). If you understand extropolation, then use it on the situation in the Mid East. Use Orwell, Nostradamus, Isaiah,(KJV) Revelation(KJV) for your extropolations. These and every other prophesy I have read all make the same or similar statements about the future of man.

Lieberman is a wretched excuse for a United States Senator. His loyalty is to international finance capital and Israel. Naturally, he wants Americans to fight and die for Big Oil's control of the reserves of Iraq and Iran. Naturally, he wants us to murder untold thousands of innocents for the sake of Israeli paranoia. The lie continnues to be spread throughout the Zionist media that the Iranian leader called for Israel to be "wiped off the map"--he said nothing of the kind...the gist of what he said was that the regime controlling Jerusalem should disappear from the pages of time as, he has pointed out, the Soviet regime and the Nazi regime have disappeared from the pages of time.

The US tried to sell Iran nuclear reactors in the 1970s. The only thing that is different is that they lack a terroristic SAVAK pack of torturers and a authoritarian Shah. Iran has lived up to the Non-Proliferation Treaty's demands--when are the Israelis even going to sign it?
