Iran Nuclear Chronology
Events in development of Iran's nuclear program since it first came to light.
"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman told Bob Schieffer. "And to me, that would include a strike into... over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."
The Indepedent former Democrat from Connecticut said that he was not calling for an invasion of Iran, but he did say the U.S. should target specific training camps.
"I think you could probably do a lot of it from the air, but they can't believe that they have immunity for training and equipping people to come in and kill Americans," Lieberman said.
Lieberman, who has been one of Congress's most outspoken supporters of the Bush administration's Iraq war policies, said that continuing the fight in Iraq and confronting Iran are necessary for achieving a wider peace in the Middle East.
If the U.S. does not act against Iran, "they'll take that as a sign of weakness on our part and we will pay for it in Iraq and throughout the region and ultimately right here at home," Lieberman said.
He said that he has seen evidence that the Iranians are supplying insurgents and foreign fighters in Iraq.
"By some estimates, they have killed as many as 200 American soldiers," he said.
The Senator said he was not calling for an end to the limited diplomatic efforts that are underway between Washington and Tehran.
"We can tell them we want them to stop that, but if there's any hope of the Iranians living according to the international rule of law and stopping, for instance, their nuclear weapons development, we can't just talk to them," Lieberman said. "If they don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."

See all 737 CommentsYes you can. If you don't mind my saying, I think you got it backwards. "You can't just go bombing people." Thats the fuel for this fire! Who do you think you are? I watched the republican debates. Where the first question was: "What would you do about Iraq having nuclear weapons?" And the second one was: "Would you use tactical nukes?" You don't see that this double standard justification system we got is broke?
There's no way. NO WAY! You're going to stop countries from having nukes. You either face your fear or die by it.
, Most of our casualties are caused by Arab & Iraqi Sunni's, 9/11 & many other terrorist attacks are by Sunni Arabs.. UAE is funding, training & supplying insurgents in Iraq & Afaganistan.. Ossama Bin Laden is a Sunni.
------- LET'S ATTACK ARAB COUNTRIES ------
You.. are.. a diplomat. Start acting like one, or get the heck out of my government.
You can not stop nuclear energy. Nuclear weapons. BEING THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEM THEM MOST! France? Maybe. Spain? Maybe. But USofNukeEverybodyA? Noway.
the middle east in flames will not help
if suggestions to bomb iran are carried out this will lead to a world war
will this make us happy
The complacent enjoyment of power can never be the final destination of a totalitarian regime. The totalitarian leader had made dramatic promises: to unify and purify his community; to save it from the flabbiness and confusion of democratic politics and the contamination of alien peoples and cultures; to rescue the community from decadence and decline.
In order to fulfill these promises, totalitarian regimes must present the impression of driving momentum and cannot survive without a headlong, intoxicating rush forward. Without a mounting spiral of ever more daring challenges, totalitarian regimes devolve into decaying authoritarianisms. With it, they drive inexorably toward a final paroxysm of self-destruction.
Thus it was that when the populace contemplated each disaster of misrule, Dumus would distract them with some fresh and ever more hideous outrage. The grinding failure of the occupation of Mesopotamia led inevitably to the Persian war and abrogation of the Constitution (A.J. 6722, 14 Gorpiaios); thence to the annihilation of Khourosan (A.J. 6723, Dystros); then to the massacre of Sind (A.J. 6723, Dios) and the attack upon Irkutsk (A.J. 6725, 25 Apellaios); until, finally, the titanic struggle of Gaugamela (A.J. 6728, 16-23 Artemisios) terminated, almost at one blow, the usurpations of Dumus and the tragic career of the Hegemon.
-- Our military is no longer capable of following through with the clean up or stoping a major war it would cause.
Where'd you get the evidence for that? The national enquirer?
To Hell with him... If Israel wants Iran bombed so bad then they need to do it themselves.... all thats happening is we keep carrying the water for the Israelis and we are turning out to be the worlds bad guys.
1.. Our borders aren't secure
2.. With more reliance on imported foods, only 1% is inspected.
3.. HSD is dysfunctional & underfunded
4.. Our military will take 15 years to rebuild
5.. Terrorism will increase
How do you know they're not Iraqi? "Throwing ya roses"?
The public backlash in Iran would hand the country over to the radical islamists, which is no doubt why they are arming Iraqi factions in the hopes of a U.S. military response. Remember, almost half of the Iranian population want the current leadership to go away. With time, they will be deposed and run out of the country. We should work to make that a reality, NOT threaten the country to where everyone is standing behind the flag.
Peace supports moderates, war supports radicals (meaning YOU and Ahmadinejad). Which is why people like you always end up getting MORE American soldiers killed in the long run.
Buddy? The only thing standard about this administration is that it ******* things up, and then takes all our money.
Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly but carry a big stick." The problem is that the Bush administration, with it's tax cuts and misplaced spending, not longer has a "big stick".
We are not in a position to militarily take out Iran and they know it. Bush has stripped our military power down drastically since he's been in office. The Maryland National Guard equipment that has been used up in Iraq will not be replaced until 2013.
Basic training time for our troops has been cut short and capable volunteers are harder to find. Now men with "just one felony" are fine with the military.
Remembering doesn't make everybody irrational.
You're mentally ill dan. I'm serious, no joke. You need medical attention.
That makes just as much sense as their comments about Lieberman.
We can't hear the voices in you head. We can't "listen to it"
Sorry.
Let's spend our lives living in fear of "emboldening" radicals. We shouldn't do anything that might anger and embolden them... don't even look at them the wrong way -- it might upset them and they might call us nasty things like "The Great Satan" and post messages on their websites delaring jihad!
News for those with their heads in the sand: militant Muslims are already emboldened. The people who aren't emboldened are YOU.

Figures from the CDC show you are 40 times more likely to die in your bathtub than from a terrorist attack. Joe Lieberman should be sponsoring legislation to bomb those traitorous bathtub manufactures. It is a known fact that bathtubs have infiltrated almost all residences in both the US and Israel. I say, deport those bathtubs (yes, I am a bathtub racist), no amnesty for bathtubs!
lieberman is thinking primarily aobut any threats to israel.
after all, lieberman owes his loyalties to israel, not to america.

Which has grown by our ignorance in dealing with them. Starting wars in nations (NIE report) that had nothing to do with 9-11.

war, hate, arrogance, division, evangelist creeps...
nothing good comes out of the south!
Every nation is ruled by an elite group who control key resources of power.
This nation, US, is ruled by the elite called Congress. They don't work for you, the People. It's time to wake up!
They work for themselves. They are entrepreneurs. They are not hired, nor fired, nor paid by you. They are their own boss. They are who own you and your finances, cars, homes, retirement accounts, health care, insurance, education, vacation, everything including your rights.
The only thing they don't own is your mind. And that is the only thing they don't need to own because you give it to them freely. Your fear of the complex, the unknown, shame, guilt, rage exacerbated by what you are told is going on vs. what is really going on drives you away from truth right into their hands.
They continue to stay in power unchecked despite their lies, misrepresentations, cons, secret arrangement, and atrocities done to the world and Americans everywhere.
If they wake up tomorrow and say that we have to go and bomb the moon, you'll believe them, support them, give them your precious MIND. Go ahead, apparently, your mind is not worth much, give it to them for free, let them take advantage of you.
They are really smart, hard working people who tricked everyone to believe their promises so they can get behind this immune shield of protection and no one can touch them. So, they really deserve to have mindless people giving them their lives, children, and future.
You forgot about Waffle House.

Well said. He wouldn't be saying this if it was China, North Korea, or another country that doesn't directly threaten Israel. This is only because he is jewish and has loyalty to Israel. I have no problem with Israel's right to defend itself, but why does the US have to be involved with them? Yes, I know they are an ally, but Israel is fully capable of defending itself. There is no imminent threat to the US from Iran.
