Akon's Fan Toss Being Investigated
(CBS)
R&B singer Akon is being investigated by police after he hurled a concertgoer into the audience on Sunday, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported Tuesday.
The Fishkill town police are first trying to identify the concertgoer, the newspaper said.
"We're trying to identify that kid, just to find out whether or not we have any kind of criminal offense," Detective. Lt. John Berlingieri said. "We are looking to speak to him. No victim. No crime."
Berlingieri told the Journal that talks have been held within the police department regarding the possibility of questioning Akon about the incident, which happened at WSPK-FM's annual KFEST concert at Dutchess Stadium.
This isn't the first time Akon has been in the line of fire for an incident at one of his concerts. In May, he apologized for grinding on stage with a 14-year-old girl at a concert in Trinidad in April.
The Associated Press reported that wireless company Verizon pulled out as a sponsor of his tour with Gwen Stefani following the display. Akon said later that he didn't know the girl was underage.
"I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me onstage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert," he said in a statement at the time.
