(AP)  Sen. Hillary Clinton outlined a broad economic vision on Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

The Democratic presidential hopeful said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none." That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.

"There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."

Clinton, D-N.Y., spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.

"We have sent a message to our young people that if you don't go to college ... that you're thought less of in America. We have to stop this," she said. "Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school."

Beyond education, Clinton said she would reduce special breaks for corporations, eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and open up CEO pay to greater public scrutiny.

Clinton also said she would help people save more money by expanding and simplifying the earned income tax credit; create new jobs by pursuing energy independence; and ensure that every American has affordable health insurance.

Clinton is a neo-socialist. Nothing new here....a leftover 60's hippy trying to reinvent communist Russia in the US.

Whatever happened to the DEMOCRAT party concept of:

"Ask NOT what your country can do for you, but rather what YOU can do for your country"

Sounds like Hillary is plagarizing "the communist manifesto"

Anyone with half a political history brain can see how the citizens of communist countries are treated in all aspects of their daily lives. These socialists keep trying to "Judas Goat" the simple minded with new packaging themes of the same old FAILED communist theory of utopia. A "JUDAS GOAT" is placed into a slaughter house pen and is trained to know where it gets fed. The sheep in the pen will not willingly leave the pen UNLESS a member of the pen goes first up the plank. In doing this the other sheep follow it. At the end of the plank the goat is diverted to its reward and the others to their demise. Don't you folks see the similarities here? Do you see americans flocking to these types of countries for a better way of life? Those that advocate such incorrect "social policy mathematics" in this country are the most dangerous and covetious (WANTING SOMETHING THAT IS NOT YOURS) constitutional traitors in this nation. Our nation will be far worse with HIL'LIAR'Y at the helm.

Huge Government. Huge huge huge huge huge. Mindboggelingly huge under Hillary. So far she's offered, universal daycare, universal health care, more and easier earned income tax credit which is free money in the form of a federal check, and probably alot more that I missed. All she does is offer free stuff. I wonder if she's trying to buy votes?

I don't know what that means but I don't want to pay one more dime in taxes. Clinton will have us up into the 40% tax bracket. Enough already. Our govt. is already way too big and bloated and unmanageable

OMG, I can't believe it. I hate the earned income credit. It's a big fat govt. giveaway and it creates tons of abuse. People can get a windfall "refund" up to 7-8K in one fail swoop. Promoting the earned income credit shows exactly who Mrs. Clinton is courting. NEW AMNESTY AMERICANS.Every single one of them knows what the EITC is and they line up first of Jan. to get their big fat govt. tax "refunds" (handhouts). We're basically paying people to work. What a cheap way to buy off votes. The EITC should be abolished. It's welfare and it has no place or business on a tax return.

And personal liberties and rights were eroded just as bad as the current administration. There is not a cup of warm spit difference between either party.

Gun bans, Brady Law, Giving control to the UN, placing American Soldiers under direct UN control, More spying on American Citizens,...etc, the list goes on.

Confiscate from the hard working and give to the lazy. hmmm sounds like communism to me. It hasn't and never will work. The countries that have tried it go bankrupt because the hard working figures, why should I bust my hump so that money I earned is taken from me and given to someone who does nothing but birth or father illegitimate children. Look at communism and the liberal agenda, scarily similar.

Your corporate masters don't want a fair market, they want a market that is free for them to make unfair. You fell for Reagan's stupid anecdotes. SUCKER.

What happened? After decades of paying taxes, dying in private, for-profit wars that only benefit the rich and corrupt, giving our livelihoods away to "globalization" for increased profit margins, and otherwise "doing for our country", it is time now to ask, "why should I do for my country, when my country chooses to do nothing for me"...

Mr. Clinton says some things that are necessary, some things that are not. All of you mudslingers and sycophants on these blog sites can debate their merits or shortcomings 'til the fat lady sings. My problem with the whole lot, (dems, repubs, indies, supreme court, etc) is that they are all liars, pandering to their core bases, but if elected (and/or appointed), the only promises remembered are the ones that make the already super rich even richer, and on a social level, encourage more social, economic, racial, and religious intolerance.

Reagan's "trickle-down" economics is a proven dismal failure, yet since then all the candidates from both sides offer up only slight variations on this failed economic theme. The neocons' knee-jerk free market drivel is just that, no one seems to notice that leaving essential services to the free market also facilitates corruption, racketeering, fraud, and other factors that actually reduce, or eliminate the effectiveness of said services.
