Hasselbeck said Tuesday on "The View" that she and O'Donnell were "in communication a lot," though she didn't say if they spoke on the phone or just e-mailed. O'Donnell had said before she didn't think she and Hasselbeck would ever speak again.
Hasselbeck says they tackled the hot topic of "the power of forgiveness." She says they have "begun that process" and that enabled them "to move on in a positive way."
Barbara Walters says she, too, was e-mailing O'Donnell because she says they remain "close friends." She says O'Donnell is welcome back on "The View" at any time.
Sitting in the seat once occupied by O'Donnell, Walters said she hopes O'Donnell will visit often. On Friday the network announced O'Donnell would be leaving the show before her scheduled departure in June.Story: Rosie Crafts Poem For The ShowBuzz
The news that O'Donnell was leaving made the showmates "very sad," Walters said.
"Rosie and I have been emailing each other all weekend with the most affectionate notes because we are very close friends, and, as I said last week, my admiration and affection for her, Rosie, if you're watching, nothing will change that," Walters said.
Walters said that O'Donnell was not fired but that it was her decision to leave. She said the split screen they used during her fight with Hasselbeck was partly to blame.
"Rosie was never fired and there was no desire to have her leave the show," she said. "It was her decision not to come back. We hoped that she would have next year, as long as she wanted to. Then, again, this time, it was Rosie's decision not to return for the other three weeks. She has said on her blog that she was upset by a split screen, which is a device that shows two people together."Photos: Rosie O'Donnell
Walters said they used the split screen on "The View" several times last week.
"I just think that so much was exacerbated by a very hot discussion that usually takes place off camera and took place on camera," she said. "But it is 'The View,' we do have different opinions. I will always — we will always be grateful to Rosie for her contribution this year. She's welcome to come back any time she wants and we hope that it will be often. And 'The View' will go on."
"And no need to worry. I know there have been a lot of concerns in the audience. You're still getting free gifts all the time," Hasselbeck joked.

- Why should they patch it up?
They are not on TV together and have no obligation to anyone to do so.
If they donot like each other, so be it.
It happens...let it go. - Reply to this comment
- Have you been on the receiving end of any of the many charities she supports? Are you in a veteran's hospital that she visits frequently? Do you participate in any of the vacations that she sponsors for families of *** and lesbians so they can feel for a short time among friends and not hated and reviled for their sexual identities? Has she ever stood up and spoken up for YOUR right to free speech? I think YOU are the one who needs a serious reality check, myself.
Rosie, there are a lot of people out here who love you and think you are terrific, and I am one of them.Posted by kevzgrl
No, I am not hom0se#ual so I have not been on the receiving end of her generosity. She only gives when it is someone else%u2019s money or for the tax break. If she is so generous let her give to those who do not have enough money to eat or to shoe their children. Let her go to the ghetto and give her charity. Let it be not to a group that %u201Cneeds love%u201D the same way she does.
She has never stood up and spoken for your rights or anyone else%u2019s. She is very open and verbal about wanting to take away Constitutional Rights, but if those rights are taken from you and I she will still have the benefit of those rights as she can pay for them. - Reply to this comment
- COME ON NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH ROSIE. SHE HAS A BIG MOUTH AND MOST OF THE TIME DOESN'T KNOW WHEN TO KEEP IT CLOSED. ALL SHE IS LOOKING FOR IS PUBLICITY. TO GIVE HER ANOTHER SHOW IS CRAZY. LET HER GO THE WAY OF HOWARD STERNS.

Well said, now there is an appropriate comparison. - Reply to this comment
- Todays young girls should not be looking up to someone like Rosie O'Donnell. How dare she be open and honest about how God created her. I hope that the young women of today will over look Rosie and model their lives after more positive role models like Paris Hilton, Lindsey lohan and Britney spears

Why is it everytime a weak-minded person wants to argue that Rosie is so great they compare her to Hilton, Lohan or Spears? If I were rosie I would be upset that that is all the better someone thinks of me. Personally I still think she is not worthy to tie those girls shoes. - Reply to this comment
- If you weren't such an idiot (your name gives you away) you would have noticed that I am not the only one that thinks Rosie is NOT obnoxious.
Actually I have started to notice that all the Rosie haters have one thing in common, they all sound like raving, obsessive idiots.

So tell me what my names says about me.
If you "were not such an idiot" to use your words, you would have known I did know what you were saying and was using it against you. If you like Rosie though it would be redundant to call you an idiot. - Reply to this comment

Bull Sh&#!!! Rosie wants to take your rights, she could care less of what you want, it is all about Rosie. If you think otherwise you are out of touch with reality!!
how do YOU know she isn't a decent person? Has she ever stood up and spoken up for YOUR right to free speech?

If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and talks like a duck, it's a duck. Rosie acts like a self-centered person, talks like one, and looks like one. Enough said.
I am a person she has tried to take rights away from. I have seen her, in person, in public, berate a innocent man for his beliefs. He did nothing to her and did not even tell her or show her what his belief were. She saw a bumper sticker on his car and went off on him about it.
Do you know her?
Do you know how she treats those who believe differently than she does?
Have you seen her go after your constitutional rights?
Step outside your box and check into it. If it is not good for Rosie, she does not think it is good for anyone. - Reply to this comment
- In Iraq, we are the terrorists. Bush went into Iraq in the hopes of taking control of oil fields, not to find Bin Laden.

It was not about all the innocent people being killed who had no one to protect them. It was not about the WMD (do not give me the sorry arguement "they do not exist" they did exist, where did they go?). It was not about the years and years of atrocities against humans that would have come here. It was all about the oil we are getting from them. What oil? - Reply to this comment
- I agreed with Rose 100% on her comment about "who are the terrorists?" In Afghanistan, we are defenders. In Iraq, we are the terrorists. Bush went into Iraq in the hopes of taking control of oil fields, not to find Bin Laden.

- I want to know how they got Rosie to fit on the split screen. Wonder if Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic was called in...

- This is funny - EH says she and Rosie have "been in communication a lot the whole weekend" to patch things up. Hah - Rosie says in her blog (and this was just posted yesterday afternoon) that EH called and talked for a little while to KELLI, and then she sent ONE e-mail that Rosie responded to. I guess that constitutes CONSTANT communication and "patching things up" in the right-wing, neo-con world little Miss Elizabeth lives in. Rosie, keep on speaking your mind - after all, this country WAS founded with the principle of FREE SPEECH for ALL, not just the narrow-minded bigots who would like to silence you and shove you back under a rock.
To all of you haters out there - go point your finger in a mirror and what do you see? There are 4 more fingers pointing right back at YOU. And you know what? Rosie still champions YOUR right to free speech, too. - Reply to this comment
