The balance of power shifts and new leadership takes control as the latest session convenes.

(AP)  President Bush said Thursday he would address any wrongdoing uncovered by congressional or other investigations related to the firings of eight federal prosecutors, but added that new allegations have not swayed his support for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

"If there's wrongdoing, it will be taken care of," Bush told reporters at a Rose Garden news conference. Congress and the Justice Department are conducting separate probes into the firings, which Democrats say were improperly political.

The Democrat-led Senate, meanwhile, scheduled a no-confidence vote on Gonzales in mid-June.

"It is the sense of the Senate that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales no longer holds the confidence of the Senate and of the American people," it reads. Chiefly sponsored by Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York and Dianne Feinstein of California, the measure contains no preamble setting out the reasons behind the resolution, an omission made in hopes of drawing more votes.

With five Republican senators having already called on Gonzales to step down and many more walking up to that rhetorical line, Schumer predicted the resolution would win at least the 60 votes required to beat a filibuster. But some Republicans said they might offer competing no-confidence resolutions that could complicate or block the Democrat-sponsored measure.

Bush said the questions about Gonzales' conduct are "kinda being drug out" for political reasons and urged House and Senate committees to wrap up their hearings and get on with legislative business.

Asked whether he still supports Gonzales, Bush replied: "Yes, I've got confidence in Al Gonzales doing the job."

A day earlier, Gonzales' former White House liaison recounted what she called an "uncomfortable" conversation with the attorney general in which he tried to review the events leading up to the firings. The mid-March meeting, Monica Goodling recalled in a daylong House Judiciary Committee hearing, came well after Gonzales and top Justice Department officials knew they would be called to testify about those same events.

Democrats have said Goodling's account makes it sound like Gonzales was trying to coach her and get their stories straight. The Justice Department denies that, contending that Gonzales was trying to comfort Goodling at a difficult time.

What was so important on March 10, 2005 this party felt compelled it had to go to the hospital, when a man was in ICU, ignore the families request; no calls, no visitors, but, needed his signature.

To be so selfish and narrow minded; you call yourself a Christian to infringe upon a family in time of crisis. Where is your compassion for others?

You are the reason why Christians like me have been made out to be like you, when there is a vast difference between the two.

If we the people and members of the political parties ask for you to be accountable for these actions, then we expect to hear the truth, with all honesty, just like you would expect us to do the same.

Pray for Peace, God Bless You.

t-barr,

I think Ron Paul is the way to go. The best way to stop this evil from perpetuating itself is to take the Republican Party back from these loons. If Democrats and independents register as Republicans in sufficient numbers we can effect the outcome of the primaries. If we don't we can always vote Democratic in November '08. We just might be able to swamp what's left of the right wing neocons. People should at least be thinking about it.

Monica Goodling is this scandals John Dean because she has testified to what the real deal was with these firings. It was all about vote fixing in 2004 but, more importantly, it was preparation for 2008. Those who weren't willing to suppress votes needed to be replaced by those who would. BBC receiving these Rove and Griffith e-mails that were accidentally sent to the wrong e-mail address
has created corroborating evidence to her testimony.

The 18 minute gap is a gap no more! It's time for KKKarl to do the perp walk!

Why was the info about a bird pooping on the president, as the pres professed his love of Alberto, left out of this story?
If the late Jerry Falwell could get away with claiming that homosexuals were responsible for terrorist attacks or the wrath of nature, then surely a bird pooping on pres at this moment must be significant.

That happens, we lose the Mexican-American vote, which we could count on. Don't you see? The president, a Republican, defending a Mexican while the ugly Democrats attack him? Don't take the bait! Posted by dukakislives at 12:32 AM : May 25, 2007

Get real--Hispanics are more pragmatic than wanting a Mexican American in Bush's cabinet. You must be a Republican or a not very bright Democrat. Just like Condi and Powell didn't sway or define the black vote--Gonzales cannot define or even garner the Hispanic vote. Want to know why Hispanics vote for Dems and will vote for them in the future?

Simple. They need the social programs that Republicans like to denigrate and try to get rid of. With the low wages many of them get--they want the group who guarantees WIC and other programs to be in charge. Republicans may be on the same page with many Hispanics concerning abortion and religion and marriage--but in the real world--those ideas do not ensure fair treatment by landlords, or supplemental food stamps, or help with housing, or programs that champion the underdog or help with healthcare. Neither Hispanics or Blacks will join the GOP as long as it uses race as a wedge issue in campaigns and as long as many GOPers are seen as rabid racists who do not want them here. And there is nothing Bush's torture boy can do or not do to change those very real facts. People may march for ideas--but they vote based on their pocketbook and the welfare of their families and lifestyle.

First, try traveling outside the U.S. so you can understand folks outside hate all of us, not because of what we do, but because of who we are and how we live. Once you get through that bit, you may understand that if we don't stand as one, they'll pick us apart. We got drawn into a stupid war, but if we get out before we give that country some semblance of stability and we kick off what many expect will be a pretty healthy dose of genocide, we won't only be running from the arabs, but from the U.N.
