Interactive 110th Congress The balance of power shifts and new leadership takes control as the latest session convenes.
Franken, a Democrat who hopes to challenge Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman next year, listed a salary of just over $1 million last year from his corporation, Alan Franken Inc.
That corporation is the business entity that provides Franken's services — such as speaking engagements and his prior service on Air America Radio — and then pays Franken a salary at the end of the year after commissions, taxes and other fees are paid, said his campaign spokesman, Andy Barr.
The disclosure reports require figures to be reported only in broad ranges. Barr said that Franken's net worth is closer to $4.3 million than $9.9 million.
Even on the low end, that would easily eclipse Coleman, a Republican who listed only an IRA rollover valued at $564,000 in his assets. Coleman's report voluntarily provided the exact market value.
Franken, a former “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer, lists assets including mutual funds, municipal bonds in New York and Minnesota, bank accounts and Alan Franken Inc. Most are owned jointly with his wife, Franni. Alan Franken Inc. is valued at between $500,000 and $1 million.
The report also lists a few dozen sources of compensation of at least $5,000, including “Saturday Night Live” residuals; film residuals for the movie “When a Man Loves a Woman,” which Franken co-wrote with Ron Bass; and speaking engagements. Those fees were all paid to Al Franken Inc., Barr said.

- Osama wanted Bush to win. CIA analysts agreed that bin Laden's message was clearly designed to assist bush's reelection. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, one of our few remaining Arab allies, says Bush is a walking recruitment poster for al Qaeda.

Ain't no doubt about that! Also the invasion of Iraq was the best thing that could have ever happened for bin Laden. he'd been preaching that an American goal was to military occupy the Middle-East, but not many were listening. Then the moron Bush comes along and does just that. It made bin Laden look like a prophet and the number of people and organizations who wanted to be part of al-Qaeda sprouted up like the plague. Thanks for nothing Georgie! You idiot! Way to work for bin Laden! - Reply to this comment
- Osama loved bush? hell I guess you were born 2005 because back in 2004 Osama wanted Kerry to win.

- He's a successful comedian, though I think better as a comedy writer like when he wrote for Saturday Night Live back when it used to be funny (1970's-early 80's). I'm rather surprised he's not worth more. He does make me wish I lived in Minnesota so I could vote for him over that Bush Butt-kisser Coleman though.

Why should I care how much he makes? Can he lead? Or at least give the impression he can lead while sodomizing us until we bleed to death?
Osama loved Bush. Hell, he loves us all. To death. Why isn't he captured yet? Or killed?

+ report abuse*******
yeah Franken was lame when he was a comedian..THEN he realized that rallying liberals with something they want to hear is more profitable...Sean Penn knew that..Jane Fonda knew that..all those washed up clowns who needed money knew that.

- sparks224,
you're 100% correct. When Bush was breaking $$ records in 2000 and 2004 CBS let it ride as freedom of speech. When Hillary is setting a new standards it's made to sound like the system's wrong and she's obscene. Same thing underlying this article about Franken. - Reply to this comment
- Big freakin' deal. A politician that (gasp!) has money. And President Bush is just a poorboy from that poor little town called Midland, Texas.
Gimme a break, CBS shills. - Reply to this comment
- I don%u2019t care about his hair or how much money he has. But the Corporate Media would like you to focus on things like that so you won%u2019t listen to what he is saying. That was the point of one of my previous posts.

I like Franken, I'm not a wingnut.
xzavierbrown, now there's a wingnut. Check out her post below. - Reply to this comment
- And your point?
I guess its news when a Democratic Senate contender is worth more than his Republican challenger?
Don't worry, the Republican will have twice as much money available for his campaign anyway.
I dare you to list what each hopeful running for all Senate races in the next election is worth. Now, THAT would be newsworthy (and eye-opening about what it says about how money controls Congress). But, better not bite the hand that feeds you, eh? Wow, was that a mother cat feeding a tiger cub I saw on your 'frontpage' the other day? With coverage like that, who needs 'Ripleys Believe It or Not!'? - Reply to this comment
- So how much tax does this man of the people pay ? What per centage ? Why have a corporation to pay yoourself ? Well, the corp pays your car bills, a big portion of your house, by way of home office, all travel expenses, and toilet paper for your office ( and home).
I am not saying that Al is anyworse than any big Capatalist, but it is obvious that he is one. - Reply to this comment
- Oh brother who cares anymore, you freaking wing nuts just can't shut the hell up you have to find something with anyone you don't like. Guess what I won't vote for your wing nuts ever again.

Please, do you really think Frankin pays a lot for that hair cut? LOL Just Kidding - Reply to this comment
- CBS%u2019s transparent and lame attempt to smear Franken. It%u2019s basically the same thing they, and the rest of the Corporate Media, do with Edwards. %u201CHe%u2019s rich (and he pays a lot for a hair cut) so don%u2019t listen to anything he says%u201D. It%u2019s based on the false and tired assumption that liberal political beliefs are based on resentment of the rich.
