"Sellout." It may be harsh, but it's the most accurate and succinct way to sum up how conservatives feel right now about President Bush and Senate Republicans, who have cut a deal that would grant amnesty to the estimated 12 million illegal aliens living in the U.S. — not to mention the parents, spouses, and children of these illegals.

Title VI of a draft copy of the bill breaks down amnesty visas into three categories:

  • Z-1 — Illegal aliens present and working in the United States up to Jan. 1, 2007.
  • Z-2 — Parents and spouses of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category.
  • Z-3 — Children of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category.

These "Z Visa" holders can stay in the "Z" status indefinitely, which means they never have to pursue "a pathway to citizenship." They also would be able to get Social Security numbers and benefit from some welfare programs. Shockingly, there is no cap on the numbers of amnesty recipients in the draft language. The only thing the Z Visa holder can't do is vote — until, that is, a liberal judge declares this limitation unconstitutional or until a liberal president can railroad through a "technical corrections" bill.

Notwithstanding all you are going to hear to the contrary from President Bush, Sen. John McCain, and their new ideological partner, Sen. Ted Kennedy, Title VI of this bill is amnesty, plain and simple. According to an op-ed by former attorney general Ed Meese that appeared last year in The New York Times discussing the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, "the difference is that President Reagan called this what it was: amnesty. Indeed, look up the term 'amnesty' in Black's Law Dictionary, and you'll find it says, 'the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act provided amnesty for undocumented aliens already in the country.'" It was amnesty then, and it's amnesty now.

Why would Republicans negotiate with Ted Kennedy, a senator with impeccable credentials with the far Left of the immigration movement? And why would John McCain imperil his wobbly campaign for the presidency by allying himself with a Kennedy-drafted immigration bill? It simply defies common sense.

Some of these Republicans, I believe, have convinced themselves that they can convince the American people that "triggers," "tough border enforcement," and the Y Visa "temporary guest worker program" were concessions from the Left that balance out the amnesty part of the bill. Unfortunately, they're wrong. And Senator McCain's prospects to woo conservatives will suffer dearly.

The prospect of amnesty for illegal immigrants and their families outweighs any tough border initiative that may be in the bill, or the get-tough employment-enforcement provisions. All that will matter, if the bill passes, is that President Bush and presidential wannabe John McCain enabled and are responsible for a historic giveaway — for a program that grants amnesty to millions of illegal aliens who are being rewarded for breaking the law.

In the name of bipartisanship, they have given away the farm to Ted Kennedy and the left wing of the Democrat party in the Senate. I can't imagine any self-respecting conservative in America who would not hold this against McCain, Bush, and any other politician who supports this terrible idea.

I often ponder why some politicians are so passionate about giving rewards to illegal aliens. They are not passionate about our huge national debt, or the rise of China as a military threat, or the offshoring of American jobs, or the degradation of basic freedoms in our country, or the rise of an unsustainable elite investor class that unbalances our markets and causes dangerous capital bubbles. They are not passionate about any of these things, but very personal and involved in the reward for illegals. And not all politiicans feel that way, nor does it reflect traditional left and right politics.

I ponder it, and I ponder human nature, and I remember that all politics is local, and especially passions are local. We can only hate or love people we know well. Which is why most Senators don't hate or love the American middle class, because they don't see us.

The conclusion that makes sense is that certain of these politicians, such as John McCain and Ted Kennedy, have very close personal servants, perhaps even Mexican lovers, who are illegals. This kitchen lobby has moved their heart, they have made promises to these illegals. Thus corruption strikes our great nation in its very bosom.

As a very liberal Democrat I even see this is a sell out of the American citizen. This needs to be rejected, really discussed during the 2008 election cycle, and then addressed after the American voter has had a real chance to voice their opinions. First we need to secure the border and enforce present laws. If every corporate executive whose company employs illegal aliens goes to jail the influx of illegals stops as the jobs dry up. Fines are seen as a cost of doing business. Wages would have to be raised and American workers would be found.

There are only two ways illegal aliens get jobs .. they remain undocumented or they steal a citizen's identity. Both are felonies so they become illegal, criminal aliens.

We need to repeal the law that grants automatic citizenship to babies born in the US. Babies born in the US should get the citizenship of their parents. This would stop the sob stories of separating citizen children from their illegal parents.

Finally everyone must recognize that except for the low wages they provide American businesses, illegal aliens are a HUGE finacial drain of American taxpayers. They do not even come close to paying back what they take. American taxpayers are paying twice for the current policies.. wages are kept artificially low and we subsidized American corporations by funding their illegal workers social neccessities i.e. another example of corporate welfare.

Total capitulation to their corporate masters again. My relatives in Mexico who want to come here legally? Now they have to wait in line behind 12 million people with no respect for law and order. It makes me sick to think how gullible the American people are.

And people wonder why we have so many gang bangers? News media never ties the two together.

Like him or not, Ted Kennedy is steadfast in his liberalism. Like him or not, John McCain changes his position on everything more often than he changes his underwear. As to the draft immigration bill, this liberal Vietnam veteran is disgusted, but not surprised. American citizenship means nothing more to George Bush than a legal requirement to become President. Sadly, John McCain views citizenship only in terms of votes--12 million of them. What horrid excuses for citizens are Bush and McCain.

Why is it only the Mexicans are getting this deal?
I wonder if being Catholic has anything to do with this considering Ted Kennedy is Catholic and the church has a lot of pull. And what better way to fill their pews and wallet. Church is big business like everything else.

Nice try NRO blaming this on Ted Kennedy. This "sellout" policy on immigration has been Bush's all along. Kennedy may agree wityh him, but it's Bush who put forward some of these ideas on immigration amnesty.

ainttaken - the GOP and conservatives do not want this, not for big business, nor for anything else. Minorities break 3 to 1 (Hispanics) and 9 to 1 (African Americans) for the Dems due to the welfare state mentality and pandering of the left-wing. The left favors welfare-type social programs and income redistribution through higher taxes plain and simple...that favor most of the minorities in the country because they benefit the most from these social welfare programs. SO, the GOP nor conservatives want more democrats; so they don't want a mass influx of refugees, regardless of the cheap labor. The interesting aspect of all of this is when looking at the polls related to Hispanic immigrants (illegal or not) they are more socially conservative than many white americans (religious, anti-abortion, etc.) - this country WILL be 50% white in a couple decades, nothing will change that, will be interesting to see whether party affiliations move as the minorities become majority...

Why would the gov't 'sellout' to amnesty? Cuz illegal immigration has been largely a benefit to GOP business and farm owners who don't want to lose their workforce. It also works for Democrats who don't like the idea of goon squads demanding papers from anyone looking remotely foreign. Take the deal, its 12 million people out of a country of 300 million. The critically important point is to CLOSE the borders to further invasion. Because birthrates in Catholic Mexico, etc aren't going down: this will continue to be a problem if we don't do something substantive NOW.

To alter the law you would have to revise the fourtheen amendment. That would seem to be an unlikely event.

Neither side is likely to seriously support the actual closing of the borders. It would take something on the order of a 2700 mile long berlin wall and the politcal support for this is not there. This present bill is a compromise that at least may win the electorates approval.

This latest scamnesty bill is a sham. It claims to provide for 18K border patrol and ~300 miles of fencing, but 20K border patrol and 700+ miles of fencing are already authorized. None of the enforcement will ever happen and the day this bill is signed 12 million illegal aliens immediately become legal. The cost of this bill to the taxpayers is something like $2.5 trillion. Odd, but I thought McCain said he was against spending like a drunken sailor.

Both sides, Dems and GOP have sold out. They aren't looking to the best
    interestest of the U.S. citizens.

They are listening to Business, Special interest groups of foriegn nationals,
foriegn governments, and in the Dem's case political advisors since
    hispanic/latino vote democratic most often.

Its a good time to call your government officials and let them know how you
    feel about this.

Nothing will ever change with the two sellout parties that currently dominate politics, we need to look at other alternatives before force becomes the only way left to the people. Go to http://www.unity08.com I have become a delegate and plan on doing something.

This Immigration Bill is an outright BETRAYAL of America. It rewards millions o flaw-breakers and allows them to cut-in-line ahead of millions of others who patiently wait legal entry to the U.S.

Writing in the Federalist Papers, specifically Federalist 28, Alexander Hamilton told us what We The People must do when betrayed by our Representatives. In Paragraph 6 of Federalist 28, Hamilton wrote: ""If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, . . . . . The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair. "

It is time we implement Alexander Hamilton's advice. It is time for We the people to defend ourselves from betrayal by federal government.

    Kill those who betray us.

If it was good enough for the Founding Fathers, it is good enough for us.

Most immigrants vote Democrat, this is a Dem as well as a GOP sellout.

The benefits of this will go to those who want globalization to move forward, that is the political elite of not only this country but the world.

Those that are so partisan that they only see it as the others party problem are being fooled.

I see nothing to say this bill is for the benefit of the U.S. citizens and that is the purpose of our government. If they want to work for another countries citizens, they don't belong in our government, if they want to work for business, they don't belong in our government. Our government is there for our benefit only.

When most people think of illegal immigrates they think of Mexicans who are uneducated, work cheap and hard workers. However, illegal immigrants also included an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 terrorists who are within our borders.

I can%u2019t understand those politicians who want to give them amnesty which would allow them to come out of hiding and seek jobs and penetrate our work force so that they can financially support their terrorist cells. However, I am hoping that this is a ploy my the federal government to get them to come out of hiding so that they can be arrested.

We have been sending all our troops including the National Guard, reserve units and some of our Border Patrol to Iraq and Afghanistan to stomp out terrorism; however, our biggest threat of terrorism is these illegal immigrant terrorist.

Our only defense that we have here at home is the few Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies which are staffed with just enough personnel to respond to isolated incidents.

The only exception to this is our war veterans. I believe that the computer disks that were stolen from our VA hospitals were done for the purpose of finding out how many veterans are healthy enough to still bear arms as the final level of our defense.

Again, illegal immigrants and the businesses that hire these people will be rewarded for breaking the law; neither party will be punished for their illegal actions.
It also seems as if nothing will be done to keep illegal immigrants from staying in this country either. They can still find housing, bank accounts, and in some states, college tuition at that state's resident's rates, and possibly
driver's licenses and car ownership. Illegal immigrant women can still have their "Anchor Babies" here, thanks to an antiquated law that needs to be changed.
With no background and disease checks, and with no control of their numbers, illegal immigrants are all but invading this country. No doubt some of those people enter this country with criminal
and terrorist intent on their minds. If 9/11, the failed Fort Dix plot, the numbers of illegal immigrants incarcerated across the country, and all the other costs associated with illegal immigrants doesn't convince government at all levels to end illegal immigration, then another 9/11 or other terrorist-type attack on this country just might.
