(AP)  Paris Hilton won't appeal the 45-day jail term she was sentenced to earlier this month for violating probation, according to court documents filed Thursday.

A lawyer for the 26-year-old socialite notified Los Angeles Count Superior Court that she is abandoning her appeal, said court spokeswoman Katherine Roberts.

Hilton was ordered earlier this month to report to jail by June 5 for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Hilton initially called the sentence unfair, and lawyers representing her filed a notice to appeal the sentence.

She then switched attorneys and is now represented by drunken driving specialist Richard Hutton. Hutton did not immediately return several calls for comment Thursday.

Hilton will be jailed for about 23 days of a 45-day sentence. She will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities decided after reviewing her case.

The shorter sentence reflects an expectation that Hilton behaves behind bars.

"All inmates get credit for good behavior," Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Thursday. "The inmate knows that if they behave and follow the rules, that's something to shoot for."

She will be held in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Whitmore said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.

She could have a cellmate.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

Will you effing idiots please leave her alone??? Her sentence at 45 days or 23 days is NOT for DWI, it's for violation of the parole from the DWI (DUI) charge. The original charge would have netted her no jail time beyond the time of the evening spent and a little walking around change plus perhaps a little public service. I've done that, and it's not pleasant, but it is necessary.

It seems to me that so many who shoot from the lip here indulge their own jealousies, nursing a self esteem of zero, while harboring resentments of no personal success or wealth. This makes people like Paris and Britney convenient targets for cruel comments from these idiots while elevating themselves in their own minds above their cesspool intellects and poor performance by saying hurtful things.

Paris is a young lady who has committed the indiscretions that millions of other young people have committed and will continue to, along with the pleasures of learning life. Same with Britney. Just leave them the *** alone, will you?? Paris is a decent, well brought up young lady. Get over it, a$$holes.

I think Paris dropped her appeal because she knows she can get way more attention being in jail. $100 says this 23 days in jail is turned into some kind of day-by-day media saga documentary. "DID PARIS SURVIVE IN JAIL TODAY....find out on FOX NEWS AT 11"

.........

You're onto something sofi2hot!!!

I just got laid off, and I could use the extra income!

I'll spend 23 days in jail for $50,000.

(To someone like Paris Hilton, $50k would be like $5.00, but that's plenty for me at this moment).

:-)

Poor little rich girl...boo hoo. Hope this slap on the wrist will make her think twice before putting herself and others at risk by getting behind the wheel when she is drunk. She is not above the law anymore than any oher driver on the road.

"special needs housing unit", that sounds about right.

She gets l hour to shower, watch t.v., participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the phone. Hmmmmm, I wonder which she will do? Outdoor recreation? I don't think so. I would bet anything that it is going to be mostly talking on the phone.

Oh dear, oh dear. Too bad she'll be seperated. Otherwise, she could get acquainted with what a broom actually feels like, handle end shoved when the sun never shines...actually, I'll be that smelly mess gets a lot of sun on it with as much as her $lutty legs are spread.

Puh-leeese.

She is not abandoning the appeal in order to pay her dues, she realized that it would fail because there are people smarter than she is!

"Hilton will be jailed for about 23 days of a 45-day sentence. She will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities decided after reviewing her case."

WAIT - I thought her stay was originally going to be shorted because of "overcrowding" and now all of a sudden, there is enough room for her to be alone?

Actually, if I were her cell mate, after hearing "hot" seventy times, I would probably hurt her.
