Cop Avoids Charges For Making Pot Brownies

(AP)  A police officer who admitted taking marijuana from criminal suspects and baked it into brownies with his wife will avoid criminal charges.

The police department's decision not to pursue a case against former policeman Edward Sanchez left a bad taste in the mouth of at least one city official, who vowed to investigate.

"If you're a cop and you're arresting people and you're confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that's bad. That's real bad," said City Councilman Doug Thomas.

Sanchez, who resigned last year from the department in this Detroit suburb, declined comment Wednesday. Police Commander Jeff Geisinger did not return calls seeking comment.

The department's investigation began with an emergency call from Sanchez's home on April 21, 2006. On a 5-minute tape of the call, obtained by the Detroit Free Press, Sanchez told an emergency dispatcher he thought he and his wife were overdosing on marijuana.

"I think we're dying," he said. "We made brownies and I think we're dead, I really do."

Sanchez later told police investigators that his wife took the marijuana out of his police vehicle while he was sleeping. In a subsequent interview, he admitted he got the marijuana out of the car himself and put it in the brownie mix, police said.

His wife was not charged either.

This so-called cop should be hung out to dry for taking the marijuana from his police cruiser and adding it to brownie mix no less. First he should have turned the marijuana into the evidence room before getting off his shift. Second, he should have known better. Third, both him and his wife should be charged with a crime for being in possession of and using a controlled substance. Fourth, the ones who let him off without charges should be charged with "deliction of duty" and made to pay for that crime.

Yet another reason why the war on drugs must end. The war on drugs is a game the elite push on the working class & poor. It makes money for the criminal justice system & the prison industrial complex, not to mention the drug dealers, while draining our tax dollars & making living more dangerous for everyone. The whole thing is a scam. It corrupts people on both sides of the law to lie, steal, & kill. The crime committed here is petty compared to the lives being destroyed over this unjust war everyday. This cop is a small part of the overlying problem that is creating a major seperation between the citizens & the police state. The only way we can restore respect & dignity to the justice system is to stop the war on drugs.

This is another big reason why the war on drugs must end. It's a big game that corrupts individuals from both sides of the law to become two-face liars, thieves, & murderers. People will use drugs no matter how illegal or which side of the law they're on. I think they should break out the rest of the stash they're holding at the police department & throw a big marijuana brownie party. Seriously, what harm would it do? Stop the madness.

What everyone seems to be missing is the breakdown of what every U.S. citizen has been led to believe:
That police officers are trained and agree to be to be honest and effective.
It's hard to repect and trust them when so many police officers obviously think that there are different laws for "them and us". Don't get me started on the recent news about that. Obviously Edward Sanchez is another dirty cop who is stealing from people while he gives them legal troubles. He hides behind the "power of the badge".
He should be publically apoligizing to each and every person he slammed his double-standards on, as well as see his own day in court like he made many others do!
By the way, he doesn't even realize that no one has EVER died of a marijuana overdose. Did this guy even go to the police academy?

This is absolutely ridiculous. How are we as a society capable of saying that justice is blind when a situation like this happens. It's just another example of preferential treatment for those who absolutely do not deserve it. The officials of Dearborn Michigan need to remedy this situation and make things right by charging this officer criminally as they would any one of us. If not, those charged with the same or similar charges should have those charges dismissed. It's time to end the hypocrisy!

It is common knowlege that no one has ever died directly from a Pot overdose. Has anyone heard of a person dying from POT??
This doesn't sound like a police officer that has received any drug education or understanding of the effects of drugs on a person. Yet he was arresting people and confiscating drugs from suspects? He obviously didn't report this stuff to his superiors and was acting outside the law. He also lied that his wife had full access rights to a police cruiser. There are just too many things about this that indicate this guy should be tried for several other crimes other than the obvious drug posession, intent to distribute (gave stuff to wife), fraud, and purjury. Not to mention defrauding the taxpayers.

Pray for justice to place back into society, and double standards to be removed.

God Bless.
