(AP)  Paris Hilton should be jailed for 45 days for violating terms of her probation for an alcohol-related reckless driving conviction, city prosecutors say.

In documents filed April 30 in Superior Court, prosecutors said they also want Hilton to be required to stay away from alcohol for 90 days and wear a monitoring device that will chart whether she complies.

The recommendation will be reviewed by a judge when Hilton appears for a probation violation hearing Friday.

Hilton pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

She was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15. Officers informed Hilton she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive, according to court papers. She was pulled over by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27 for speeding and driving without her headlights, at which time she was charged with violating her probation.

Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said at the time that she wasn't aware her license was suspended.

Prosecutors say by signing the document Hilton knew she was not allowed to drive. They also note that as of April 17 she had yet to enroll in the alcohol education program.

"These violations demonstrate Hilton's disregard for the vehicle laws of this state as well as for the conditions of her probation," the court filing said. "This court should ... include imprisonment as a condition of reinstating her probation."

Anyone who drives under the influence of drugs or alcohol should be held accountable, I don't give a *** who they are. The ones who drive that way aren't the ones who usually get hurt. They hurt and kill OTHER people who weren't doing a *** thing except driving on the same road as a stinking drunk driver. If they were only hurting themselves I'd say fine, whatever, but that is NOT how it works. We ALL know someone who has been violated by these idiots and I'm tired of seeing them get off with a suspended license or probation. The fact that this little trampy person is from a wealthy family has amped up her attitude of entitlement, but she doesn't deserve any less punishment than anyone else. LOCK HER SORRY BUTT UP!!!!

I think that she should go to jail for violating the law. However, the refraining from alcohol and wearing a monitor is insane. First, alcohol is not illegal and second, it didn't play a part in here driving on a suspended liscense. And antiadult, it has nothing to do with Christians. Get over it.

paris hilton is a fake and i dont think that she should be let off the hook just because shes a movie star. who cares if shes famous. even if she is a ***, a ***, and thinks shes all that, we are all people and we should all have the same rights!! what has she got to lose. nobody loves her. the only people she has are her fans. people only like her because shes rich, "pretty", and shes famous. she needs to pay her time just like everyone else.

My wife had the same offence and had the book thrown at her. 48 classes, blower, fines, probation, and comunity service. Paris will get off with nothing.

Hollywood courts will let her off with another slap on the wrist and a stern "don't do it again". It is sad that a sector of society can get away with this. EQUAL PUNISHMENT FOR ALL!

GOOD!

OK, it is what she and any other law breaker deserves, and it is ABOUT TIME that a celebrity faced the music.

BUT...will jail time consist of perks - cell phone, dog, better food, etc., or will she have a cell with the BASICS like everyone else?

Do the crime and spend the time. It's about time that justice was dealt out equally. A person's whose profession puts them in the public spotlight are not above any statute of the law. This should carry on into incarceration as well. It is not justice if a state spends one hundred dollars a day on general prisoners and then one thousand dollars a day on another just because that person is a public figure.

I think it's actually pretty common for people to continue to drive with suspended licenses, but I think it's actually rare for someone to be so cavalier about it by speeding and driving without lights, especially if you're already somebody who attracts attention. Not sure what the terms of the alcohol education program enrollment were, but if there was a deadline and she missed it, I think that's pretty rare too.

If she tries to argue that the papparazzi were following her, then I would wonder why she didn't just hire a driver? Hopefully the judge'll give her time, but I've got a sinking feeling she'll probably just get court-ordered treatment starting ASAP. Ugh! Can't stand this chick . . .

Wow! what type of inmate will Paris make? Do you really think she will learn her lesson? If her name was Jane Smith she would have been arrested and in jail. How many more chances should these so called celebrities get? Has our judicial system ever heard of ?equal under the law"? I guess there are two types of laws, one for the rich and famous, and one for regular people.
