(CBS)  One of America's favorite superheroes came to Astoria, Queens, Monday night for "Spider-Man 3's" New York premiere during the Tribeca Film Festival.

Stars including Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst walked down the red — turned black — carpet, talking about the movie that will complete the first "Spider-Man" trilogy.

The premiere also kicked off NYC's official "Spider-Man" week.

Crazed "Spider-Man" fans spanned three blocks and a marching band made their way down the carpet before the stars' arrivals. The crowd welcomed Dunst to Queens by singing her Happy Birthday. The actress turned 25 on Monday.

Columbia Pictures' "Spider-Man 3" reunites the cast and filmmakers from the first two blockbuster adventures for a web of excitement that will transport worldwide audiences to thrilling new heights.

But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control.

Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves.

Other stars in the film include James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell, Rosemary Harris, J.K. Simmons, and Mary J. Blige also came out to support the film.

The movie opens nationwide May 4.
