Cops Cuff Grant In Baked-Bean Brouhaha
Hugh Grant has been arrested for allegedly throwing a container of baked beans at a photographer, London police said.
The Metropolitan Police don't identify suspects who haven't been charged, but said a 46-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of assault and released on bail. No charges have been filed, police said.
Grant's lawyers weren't immediately available for comment.
Photographer Ian Whittaker told the Daily Star tabloid that Grant had kicked him and shouted abuse before hurling the beans at him Tuesday morning.
The newspaper ran photos Wednesday showing the actor holding a plastic tub over his head.
"He lost his temper with the paparazzi who was waiting outside his house," Grant's publicist, Robert Garlock, told The ShowBuzz Thursday.
Garlock said charges are pending. "Basically he was brought in for questioning and the charges are pending, it's now the court's decision. He's back home, he's fine. He confirmed to me that the event happened," Garlock said.
Grant's screen credits include "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Notting Hill" and "About a Boy."
The British actor appeared in a segment of FOX's reality show "American Idol" on Wednesday in which he lip-synched to a Bee Gee's song.

- Paparazzi have become stalkers, they endanger the lives of the people they are "stalking". It's become a real sick game with this low lifes. If any charges should be brought up it's against the paparazzi.

- Someone needs to set some new guidelines for the paparazzi because these people who step over the line to invade peoples privacy should be dealt with severely! Not to mention there is no need for doing some of the things they do just to get a picture!!! Get a life!!!Who ever got beans threw at them be thank-ful one day it may be something more dangerous!!!

- Celebreties ought to be allowed to throw anything they want at paparazzi, and paparazzi ought to be held accountable for "harassing" people. I'm tired of reading about how they bully, chase, hound, pester, harass, and generally make themselves obnoxious. Ought to be a law against that!!!

- In a media-world full of violence, tragedy and generally negative news, this Hugh Grant report made me smile :-) Hugh knows how to address the annoyances of life with humor! Seriously, how severely can a plastic tub of baked beans injure an annoying papparazzo? Way to go, Hugh!

- It seems to me that the paparazzi has clear intentions of provoking celebrities into situations that will do them harm and at the same time make a big story. Workman%u2019s Compensation Insurance should cover most injuries provoked by the paparazzi in the performance of their jobs. The celebrities should not be held to a high degree of responsibility unless they use lethal force. Politicians are protected from a lot of in the face harassment that other celebrities have to endure.
