Police responded to the midtown Manhattan landmark at about 2:50 p.m. after a telephone caller to emergency services reported seeing a leg on 33rd Street. After closing the street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, they discovered that the body had landed on a setback on the 30th floor.
The name of the victim, a lawyer in his 30s, was not immediately released.
Detectives on the street were photographing the leg, which was severed below the knee with the foot still covered in a dark gray sock.
In February 2006, a 21-year-old New York man jumped to his death after buying a ticket to its observation deck. Dovid Abramowitz jumped from a vacant office on the 66th floor of the 102-story building.
More than 30 people have committed suicide at the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931. The skyscraper reaches 1,454 feet to the top of its lightning rod.

- knyghtwolf, I would that you and I were wrong about 'organized religion' but it seems that anything that man puts his hands on is used for the wrong purposes. God gave us just a few rules, man has been so busy adding (except for's and Thou Shalt's) to what he said that the word of God as we know it has been rendered 'almost' meaningless. Fortunately for those that care to look his will is still there to be found. I found it and so have others but it is difficult.

- Sorry bout that toolmangler, got my degrees in psychology, sociology & theology, all tend to over lap if not separated by logical thought, and yes, it is in the name of ORGANIZED religion, keeps the masses fat, sassy, and intellectually deprived. Most people I've counseled have been drop-outs or recovering alcoholics and drug addicts that have a below average education. The lower the education, the greater the faith by itself. Faith and common sense seem to be like mixing guns & alcohol.

- The problem is not so much psychological, as it is societal. The demands placed on some of these young people in their proffesions are ludicrous, absurd, and beyond reason. 90 hrs. a week? What the h**l kind of schedule is that? These people lose their involvement in the social realm of society and lose their minds. The expectations are too high and they are just plain unrealistic. These people lose touch w/ reality and sanity. Work, work, work. Always work. Although I do feel bad for the gentleman, how often does a McDonalds worker do something like this? Less pressure. All for the love of money. It's not worth it. We should examine the company policy on "work ethic". You know what they say, "All work and no play........"

- When we as a Nation and for that matter the entire world make it a policy to respect the Seperation of Church and State we will be well on our way to World Peace.

Again I agree but Seperation means freedom 'of' religion, not freedom 'from' religion. - Reply to this comment

- Please do not blame Christianity itself for the suffering caused by zealots and power seekers. While I agree with you about the results of mans stupid interpretations of Christs plan for man you should realize that "Organized Religion" is the cause, not religion itself. Islam is also an "Organized Religion".

When we as a Nation and for that matter the entire world make it a policy to respect the Seperation of Church and State we will be well on our way to World Peace. When you look at Nothern Ireland, the Middle East and even right here in this nation, those things that seperate us, the things used by the evil ones to divide us to the point of violence is based on RELIGION. When we accept the conclusions of U.S. Grant in a Speech he gave about Public Funding of Religous Schools, we'll be well on our way;
"Leave the matter of religion to teh family altar, the church, and the private schools entirely supported by private contributions. Keep the Church and State forever seperate." Des Moines, IA 1876. - Reply to this comment
- While this 'may' be true about organized religions check out what the secular world was doing while Christianity was somewhat quiescent

Adding Hitler to that list shows a complete lack of knowledge of History. Hitler like the facsit in this nation used Religion in EXACTLY the same way Bush, Robertson and the rest us it. - "NO other religion can match christianity in causing death, bloodshed, or cultural genocides. This is not made up or being posted out of anger, its simply the truth."

- With so many comments about the war in Iraq, Democrats vs. Republicans, christianity etc about why this guy killed himself. And why alot of people kill themselves? Usually over a failed relationship! Poor dude probably was getting divorced and couldn't take it anymore. It seems like such a shame that a person would waste a perfectly good life over something like that.
Or maybe he was getting audited from the IRS! (That would be enough reason in itself!) - Reply to this comment
