(AP)  The leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, arrived in Israel on Friday and plans to visit Syria, a country the Bush administration has shunned, on her second fact-finding trip to the Middle East since she took over in January.

Among those in her delegation are Rep. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress.

Pelosi's repeat trip to the Middle East indicates she has no intention of letting the White House have the sole province on foreign policy. She has already forced legislation through the House that would order all combat troops out of Iraq by September 2008, a measure that resembles a similar measure approved by the Democratic-run Senate.

The Bush administration has mostly refused to engage Syria diplomatically because of its ties to terrorist networks. U.S. officials held their first direct, high-level contact with Syrian representatives in years this month when they met with officials from several Middle East countries in Baghdad to discuss Iraq.

Others traveling with Pelosi include Rep. Tom Lantos, the Democratic chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee

The House has adjourned for a two-week spring break.

The group planned to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and to travel to the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said Ellison's spokesman, Rick Jauert.

The speaker plans to address the Israeli Knesset on Sunday in what will be her first address to a foreign government legislature and as the highest ranking American woman to speak before the Israeli parliament, according to Pelosi's office.

She is expected to discuss "America's commitment to Israel and the challenges facing the two nations in the Middle East," according to a statement.

In late January, Pelosi led a delegation of House members to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and other neighboring countries.

The January trip to Baghdad came just days after the president asked Congress in his State of the Union address to give his revised war strategy a chance to work. The United States is sending more than 21,500 additional combat troops, plus thousands of other support troops, to Iraq in a bid to tamp down sectarian attacks and provide enough security to hasten reconstruction efforts.

I never said it was a war about oil, but it certainly wasn't about Saddam's danger of talking us to death and that was all he had. It may have been because he tried to kill Dumbya's daddy. If oil were involved it may have been to keep Iraq's oil from flowing freely into the market after the inspectors reported than Saddam's Mickey Mouse watch was the leading source of radiation in Iraq. The war would keep OPEC and the oil companies operating at record prices and profits at full production, none of those lousy cutbacks to limit their total revenue.

If you choose to believe that Nixon bombed the N Vietnamese into allowing the US to withdraw and allow N Vietnam to assimilate S Vietnam, I guess you could say we unified Vietnam. The facts stand and I couldn't care a great deal less about your opinion or anything else everyone has. Whatever gets you perverts for a new American century all wet and squirming in your seat. Go for it, lady?

I've no doubt that loyal bushies will support freddo as long as long as their truth-less leader say to do so. If Dumbya succeeds in creating the perfect unitary executive government, code for dictatorship, it'll a be the first time ever that a dictatorship began under that society's equivalent of a Nero or worse, instead of a Cesar. He's more suited to a 3rd rate banana republic, but since Chavez has Venezuela covered, maybe he could kiss up to Castro and follow him in Cuba.

Hey lieberman how your latest user-name working out for you? Unfortunately, your xenophobia shows even in your latest incarnation. Your as ignorant with the new name as you were with the old. Remember that it's better to be silent and be thought a fool than to say something and remove all doubt.

What did you just go straight to the needle. Nixon's bombing Hanoi into a parking lot convinced N Vietnam to allow Nixon to get our people out in one piece. Your revisionist history is showing.
What do you want to do when a bomb financed and provided by Saudi Arabia kills one of our soldiers. They are responsible for 96% of our fatalities, but the king is Duh-baya's hand-holding strolling partner, so that's okay, right. Speaking of heads and locations, you appear to have yours so far up tricky-dickey's so far that should he make a sudden turn he'll will snap your redneck. Go ahead and inhale, you're in a purple haze.

Read neoconRcrazy's posts, he is an anti-semite.

I think you will find the muslim world has become more bold with our dem friends running more of the show. The terrorists see how quick the lefty's are to surrender.

I'm guessing most left leaners on this board really want the U.S. to fail, they want our country to die. They hate Jews because they are NAZI's like neoconRcrazy.

The Bush administration's refusal to engage our enemies is like two fueding neighbors that refuse to speak to one another.

As long as there is no attempt to reconcile their differences, there is no improvement in the situation.

If attempts are made at finding a resolution the chances of accomplishing same are infinitely better than if no attempt whatsoever is made.

The neocon policy of conversing with our only our allies, not oue enemies, would have led to mutual assured destruction during the cold war.

We narrowly avoided same expressly because we DID engage our enemies as well as our allies.

Funny you should mention Lockerbie. The people behind that want to do business and Bush has taken them off the terror list. Is he a traitor?
How about the hush hush negotiations between the administration and the insurgents? Kissinger maybe? It's called diplomacy. We can either talk to our enemies and friends or run for the copters like we did under both parties in Vietnam, Beirut, & Somalia.

Didn't inhale, I'll spare the quips about not inhaling but I'm surprized that you don't realize that:1.) if we pull out precipitously it will be a bigger problem for Syria than for us because they'll be overwhelmed with refugees looking for housing and food, and, 2.)We need Syrian or Arab league help securing the borders and we'll need to deal with those aprties to get it. That's the only way to avoid a total disaster here. That's not just the position of liberals.

You NEOCON's are all the same. All you know is intimidation and destruction. You accuse Liberals of being cowards because we do not support the blood for oil war in Iraq. Posted by LiberalVet

I hate it when simple minded spewers of rhetoric and propoganda condemn the truth with lies. Everyone knows that the Oil War is nothing more than a conspiracy theory, otherwise the USA would have been in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or IRan instead of Afghanistan.

There is not one document that shows any choice to go to war was based on the USA grabbing oil. Its simpleton graffiti used by the mentally challenged to act out and get attention....

Pelosi should be tried for treason by conspiring with the enemey of the USA.

Syria enslaved Lebanon for 29 years, and when they left, they assasinated anti Syrian Lebanese representatives. Syria also is in possession of a vast amount of Saddams illegal weapons, which has been disclosed by Syrian citizens (Nayyouf-Nayyuf).

Syria supports terrorist going into Iraq to kill our sons. That woman is nothing more than a destparate pig trying to bring harm to our people.

We do on the other hand support the real war on terrorism in Afganistan, but I do not think any of you narrow mind idiots remember that little war. So keep calling us cowards, your opinion matters very little. Your kind is dwindling everyday. The nation has grown tired of you and your scare propaganda. America is starting to cleanse itself of the filth your kind has spread created. All that is left is administering an *** in 08 and cleaning the remaining sh*t out....

I hope that all of you who voted for this kind of hypocritical trash are satisfied with your vote.

Of course those who truly HATE this country probably are.

But for the rest of you, dissatisfied with the way the war was being fought, with how Bush handled the ILLEGAL alien problem, are satisfied with the results. You thought the Republicans were bad - the Dems gave us Studds and Frank before there ever was a Mark Foley. They gave us a traitor and crook like Murtha even before any of the moronic bozos could ever mutter "Halliburton". They gave us cowards and traitors like Carter, Cliton and Kerry ever before Bush's military record ever came up.

And they gave us a Klansman ever before they could carp how Republicans were insensitive on Race matters.

And what do you have now?

YOU GOT A MILLIONAIRESS, BOTOX-FILLED (paid for by taxpayer dollars), ILLEGAL hiring TRAITOR whose bottom line is that she hates our soldiers and wishes America to go down to defeat. And her Minions.

Remember that in two year's time when it comes to vote for Senators and Congressmen. The Democrats as usual lied. They will ALWAYS behave like tax-hiking, anti-defense TRAITORS.

You want to impeach - IMPEACH the Dem traitors!

Better a prison cell than wasting our dollars for their ILLEGALS, their botox treatments and pork perks, and squandering the lives of our servicemen and women.

didntinhale; You Are correct if a country goes to war there should be no restrictions except to win! In Vietnam Johnson and Nixon still bombed the same parking lots outside Hanoi just to show the Vietnamese what our bombs could do. They never let us bomb the harbor where the Russian ships were unloading supplies! In Vietnam we had to clear Artillery firing data thru headquarters and the provincial leadership who told the VC. Does this sound anything like what we are doing now in Iraq? The children throw cinder blocks at the convoys air guards to knock them down at that time the insurgents fire up the convoy. Bush fouled this war up long before the Democrats took power in Congress in fact had Bush won the war and peace with competent leadership at all levels he would be viewed as a hero now. He had every opportunity to do so with a rubber stamp congress and 70 percent country support going in to the war. But events started to unravel when the events on the ground did not pan out and questions started to be ask then the lies that got America into the war, and the Israeli Neocons and their supporting politicians were uncovered selling out America first to do their dirty work in the Middle East, thus the entire house of cards came crumbling down! Now we are leaving Iraq! You cannot kill people on a lie!

Stay there, and don that hajibi you are craving to wear, b*tch.

Americans deserve better as the Speaker of the House than a little, botox-filled Islamonazi appeasing, ILLEGAL hiring, millionaireness traitor who now wants to travel to the country that was behind the Marine barracks massacre - any comments about that, Dally or ExLax? Why not bring Murtha and Webb on too - they love this piece of hajibi craving *** -, the slaughter of 270 people over Lockerbie - and finally the brutal occupation of Lebanon.

She wants to visit Syria - good, take the three Jimmies - Carter, Baker, and Webb with you, as well as Hanoi Murtha - and STAY THERE.

Pelosi = TRAITOR.

If America is to be a world leader, we must be sensitive to, and take responsibility for, the results of our actions, the intended as well as the unintended consequences, in how they affect the world. This would be the mature responsible position, which would be a nice change in direction for our country.

Talking to ones so-called enemies, as well as ones friends, is what diplomacy is all about. I can't believe some would not recognize an attempt at good diplomacy, but then again, we haven't seen any sort of diplomacy in over 6 years now.

Diplomacy is what allows the world to move forward without war, it is what good leaders are supposed to do. When leaders go to war, it is an admission of failed diplomacy.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Employ good diplomacy and your so-called enemies list will steadily decrease in size.

What really bothers me is why these traditional self-evident truths aren't as well known and followed as they once were by our country%u2019s leaders. And please don't give me the 9/11 changed everything defense; as it could be argued that 9/11 happened because we were not listening to the grievances%u2019 akin to our middle-eastern policies, coming from the people in these countries that were directly affected by our actions.

The root cause of 9/11 could be attributed simply to a lack of good effective diplomacy. The hatred of America that had been steadily growing in the middle-east was no secret, rather it was just ignored. If America is to be a world leader, we must be sensitive to, and take responsibility for, the results of our actions, the intended as well as the unintended consequences, in how they affect the world. This would be the mature responsible position, which would be a nice change in direction for our country.

I guess the Democrats do not like Jews, same as the NAZI's. Huh.

Not sure if the left leaners realize just what Israel has to deal with when it comes to being neighbors with Syria and Iran.

I'm no Republican, I think both parties are ran by crooked lawyers who manipulate the mindless masses of the American people, but this is counter-productive to the security of Israel, EU, U.S. and the world.

This irresponsible grand-standing is absurd, someone needs to reel this crazy San Franite in.

The democrats came to power because the republican acted like a bunch of retards for the last few years, the dems are now taking their turn.

Whatever happened to plain good old American horse sense?
