Even if you have cared for your skin over the years, gravity eventually takes its toll. Michele Aronesty and Dr. Alan Matarasso, a clinical professor of plastic surgery, discussed Aronesty's surgery.

(CBS)  In Hollywood, talent is great but beauty is bankable — so much so that stars of every age are getting nipped, tucked and injected, according to The Early Show correspondent and E! Entertainment anchor, Giuliana DePandi.

This weekend, the topic is being presented on E! Entertainment in a one-hour special, "The Good, The Bags and The Ugly." It's a look behind the scenes to understand why stars go under the knife to stay in the spotlight.

The TV special says that actress Pamela Anderson was among the first to make breast augmentation popular. From Playboy to "Baywatch" to her cameo in "Borat" — as Anderson's bust size ballooned, so did her career.

"Breast augmentation, one of the most popular procedures we do here in Hollywood, can have a risk of infection, bleeding, all kinds of things that can go wrong, but luckily, the risks are low," says Dr. Robert Rey of "Dr. 90210."

Not long after breast enhancement, the late Anna Nicole Smith became the face and figure of Guess jeans. Last year alone, according to the American Society For Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 380,000 women had their bust size increased.

Bigger was better for Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra. Even Academy Award-winning actress Jane Fonda got implants to make herself look, in her words, "more womanly."

"We put these stars on a pedestal and expect them to be superhuman. We expect them not to age. We expect them to be beautiful at all times and, of course, that's unrealistic," says Dr. Rey.

In a posting on her Web site this week, Courtney Love said she had surgery to fix a nose job she had a while back.

"I just didnt like that old nosejob i went too far and i fixed it and made it natural again," she wrote in a posting under the name "Court." Her rep confirmed to People magazine that she recently lost 44 pounds.

Actress Patricia Heaton played a housewife on "Everybody Loves Raymond." In real life, Heaton said being a mother of four took a toll on her body. The actress admits to having what surgeons call a "mommy makeover," including a tummy tuck and breast lift.
"Everything about me is fake: my teeth, my hair color, my nails, my breasts," Janice Dickinson tells E!. "I've had surgery to defy gravity, to look good on television, to look good and feel better about myself, so I'm an advocate of plastic surgery."

Of course, many celebrities try to keep their plastic surgeries secret, which isn't an easy thing to do these days with paparazzi staking out doctor's offices and celebrity hot spots.

Ashlee Simpson has been playing this cat and mouse game with reporters about her nose. When asked flat out if she's had surgery, she says, "maybe I did, maybe I didn't." Jessica, her sister, tried to deny she has her lips injected to plump them up. She finally did admit to having restylane injections in her lips. She said she regretted it, it was quite painful and that she wouldn't go that route again.

Depandi says that people often come armed with celebrity photos when they visit cosmetic surgeons. Each year, a team of Beverly Hills plastic surgeons releases the results of its "Hollywood's Hottest List" survey.

The report lists the most popular celebrity features requested by patients. Topping the list for 2006: Jessica Alba's nose, Scarlett Johansson's lips, Sienna Miller's eyes, Naomi Watts cheeks and Kiera Knightley's chin.

asor1,

I totally agree. When a woman approaches me and I can tell she has had some sort of surgery done to make her breasts bigger, or wears a lot of make-up or has had he face skin pulled tight, I almost run. I just don't understand why some women need to have all that *** done in the first place. The woman's body is a work of art from God Himself and to have it altered is like going to a master piece painting and altering it. Women, you have some sort of fantasy that most men think you need to have that done, well let me tell you, a man that thinks a woman needs to have alterations done just to "LOOK BETTER" are the ones doing it or creeps that don't know a good thing when they have one to begin with.

How about Nicole Kidman's forehead, or Katie Couric for that matter? Botox is ultimately UGLY and unrealistic. We all wrinkle, life!
