"Now" Is The Time For Kenny Loggins

New CD Includes Remake Of Classic "A Love Song"

(CBS)  Kenny Loggins' career spans three decades and he's a two-time Grammy winner.

He also has a new CD out, called "How About Now."

It includes a remake of the classic 1973 Loggins and Messina ballad, "A Love Song."

Earlier this month, Loggins was inducted into Hollywood's Rock Walk.

"It was interesting," Loggins told co-anchor Julie Chen on The Early Show Thursday. "I used to live near there when I was a kid, and buy my guitar strings from Guitar Center, which is like the sponsor of the Rock Walk.

"And now my hand prints are there!"

Asked what inspired "How About Now," Loggins said, "I think the Loggins and Messina reunion tour two summers ago was a major factor for me. I found myself back singing those songs that I wrote when I was 19 and 20 years old, and back with the acoustic guitar, and I wanted to make a record that felt like that."

Eleven of the album's dozen songs are original, based on journals he's kept during the past three years, including while on that tour.

Loggins' son, Crosby, performs on one of the CD's songs.

"That's something I've been wanting to do. He's been ducking it. He's 26 and avoiding me as much as possible. But I got him. I wrote a song with Richard Marx called 'I'll Remember Your Name,' which is very much a father-and-son song, so I thought it was appropriate for my son to sing on the backgrounds."
