(AP)  Hillary Rodham Clinton wants to be president. In the last campaign, she might have been the vice presidential nominee.

The New York senator and former first lady was on a list of possible running mates for 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, according to an upcoming book by top Kerry strategist Bob Shrum.

But Clinton was quickly ruled out because quiet polling found she was too polarizing, Shrum writes.

Clinton said around that time that she would not have been interested in the job if the Massachusetts senator asked her. "I made it clear I don't want that to happen," Clinton said on NBC in April 2004. "And what my answer will be, 'no,' if it does happen. I'm not prepared to do that."

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said neither she nor her advisers had an effort to place her name on the short list of potential Kerry running mates. Among other things, Clinton pledged in her 2000 campaign to serve out her entire Senate term and was serious about fulfilling that promise, Wolfson said.

Kerry spokesman Vincent Morris said conversations about selecting a running mate were private and Kerry wants them to remain that way. John Edwards ultimately was picked as Kerry's running mate.

Shrum wrote that Clinton was on a list of about 25 possibilities drawn up early in the search process.

His book, "No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner," is scheduled for publication June 5. The Associated Press obtained excerpts from uncorrected galley proofs.

Hillary won't have to worry about running for pres either. She isn't going to win the nomination.

And another thing....You may also be a liberal if you.....

Agree that all the world's problems can be traced back to white Anglo-Saxon men taking advantage of others.
You think the New York Times is fair and balanced, but Fox News is ultra right-wing...
You speak out on the "evils of corporate America" but spend a great deal of your time at Starbucks.
You think hunters don't do anything for nature but "social/environmental activists" that have never left San Francisco/NY city limits do

The Democrats need new blood and Hillary and Obama aren't it. If either of them are on the ballot, they will lose the election in '08. The Democratic ideal of carrying NY, Cal and just enough of the other states will not work....much like it didn't in '00 and '04. If Guiliani runs for the republicans, the dems won't even carry NY. Looks like you poor slobs will have to actually work for another 4 years.

BTW You may be a liberal democrat if ....
You think marriage is obsolete - except for homosexuals

I thought about a year ago that Kerry would run in 2008 and Hillary would be the VP. That turned out not to be the case, but I would agree with the polling data that Hillary is "too polarizing", even among women would be my assessment.

Of course she was ruled out. How would you feel if Hillary was just a heartbeat from the Presidency... and it was your heartbeat?

Clinton's presidency was perhaps the most dishonest of all presidecys, especially the presidential pardons that he allowed if he got paid, and he got paid for each of them, either thru Hillary's brother or his library, or his democratic organizations who have paid for his home in Chappaquidick, just as someone boughtt an empty lot next to Obama's house (did it come out of his pocket or the Democrat party?
