(AP)  Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez joined 20,000 people in a soccer stadium rally Friday night, capping a day of protests and taunts against U.S. President George W. Bush and his tour of Latin America.

"Oh, ho ho! Gringo go Home!" Chavez declared Friday before donning a bright red shirt symbolizing his brand of socialist revolution at an "anti-imperialist" rally in the Argentine capital, just across the Rio de la Plata from Bush's stops in Uruguay.

Across the river border in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo, a small knot of rowdy anti-American demonstrators punched and scuffled with some bystanders and shattered windows at an American fast-food restaurant. The incident came as Bush flew to Uruguay from neighboring Brazil.

"Exterminate the Empire!" a masked woman spraypainted on a business facade as some rocks flew. There was no report of any serious injuries but the incidents underscored the tension as Uruguay's first leftist president, Tabare Vazquez, awaited to meet Bush on Saturday.

Chavez has said Bush's five-nation swing would fail to improve America's image and dismissed his pledges of U.S. aid as a cynical attempt to "confuse" Latin Americans.

"I believe the chief objective of the Bush trip is to try to scrub clean the face of the empire in Latin America. But it's too late," the Venezuelan leader said earlier in the day on Argentine state television. "It seems he's just now discovered that poverty exists in the region."

At the stadium rally, About 20,000 people, men and women, old and young, applauded Chavez, who spoke under banners reading "Bush, Out!" Earlier, youths in the crowd danced amid shouts: "Anyone who doesn't jump is with Bush!"

"We are here to show our support of Chavez and our repudiation of Bush and imperialism," said Claudio Hernandez, a Chilean in the crowd. "We are against Bush because of his oil wars and his other policies, which go against the people of the world."

Anti-American and anti-Bush sentiment run high in the countries on Bush's tour, particularly over the war in Iraq and U.S. trade negotiations.

During his first stop in Sao Paulo, Brazil, riot police fired tear gas and clubbed some protesters after more than 6,000 people held a largely peaceful protest march Thursday.

Brazil's streets were calmer Friday, though 150 protesters gathered near Bush's hotel and burned a Bush effigy with a swastika on its shirt and a Hitler mustache penciled on its face.

In Argentina, many still blame Washington for tolerating the country's brutal military regimes of 1976-1983, when thousands of dissidents were tortured and killed. The organizers of Chavez's rally included Mercedes Merono of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, a group still searching for sons and daughters who vanished after being arrested under military rule.

"This counter-rally is extremely important," she said. "Bush seeks to take advantage of Latin America while Chavez supports the region's independence."

Police put down violent protests in Colombia in advance of Bush's visit there, and in Guatemala, Mayan leaders announced that Indian priests will purify the sacred archaeological site of Iximche to eliminate "bad spirits" after Bush visits there Monday.

"That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people," Guatemalan activist Juan Tiney said.

Bush wraps up his trip next week in Mexico, where a handful of protesters demonstrated Friday outside the U.S. Embassy.

In Sao Paulo, many people were simply bothered by the traffic caused by all the security protecting Bush.

"This is irritating. All the roads are blocked and our clients can't come in," said real estate agent Juliana Figueiredo.

The U.S. should stop buying Venezuela's oil and also stop accepting Venezuela's oil aimed at the poor! Venezuela's oil comes with too much negative political baggage! I wouldn't care if I paid $5 a gallon for gas! The U.S. should make Venezuela sell its political oil elsewhere! I don't want it...

tbweb, Political Oil? You should also not want any middle eastern country's oil, and especially, Saudi Arabia's oil, considering the majority of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis. Oh hell, I guess you're okay with their oil since Bush is okay with it, eh? How about Canada's? Being a pacifist country, you probably have problems with their political oil, as well. Have you considered walking everywhere you go?

Chavez is merely trying to get attention off his attempts to become a South American Dictator. His 'Nationalization' of the critical industries of Venezuela has only one purpose, POWER!!!. He wants to be the only 'He-Bull' in the area. Bush or any other President of the U.S.A. will be castigated as a bully and tyranical warmonger. Smoke 'n mirrors folks, smoke 'n mirrors....

You're absolutely right! I don't support buying any foreign oil, none of it and I've posted to that effect many times. Venezuela's Chavez childish in your face negative politics makes buying Venezuela's political oil especially irratating. Venezuela needs the U.S. more than the U.S. needs it and the U.S. should prove that by boycotting Venezuela's oil! The customer is king, any business knows that!

I wish I had the time to go. As a patriotic American who loves his country it's my duty to do everything and anything I can to oppose the as*shole Bush and his regime. They're the worst thing to happen to our country and our freedom in our nations history. They're the biggest threat to America worldwide. The Bush regime is infinitely more dangerous to world peace and security then the most heartless dictator or the most evil minded terrorist.

That's because he was too busy spreading poverty to the people of Iraq by bombing them and destroying their country.

CBS is a biased news agency that pushes stories that support its political agendas while downplaying or ignoring stories that do not serve it's own political agendas.

And Bush is not a dictator with his pre-emptive wars, and cramming of right-wing religion down people's throats with "faith-based" initiatives and wacked policies on stem cell research that go against 80-90% of the popular opinion? Please. I could go on, for DAYS! Life's good in America if you're rich, straight, and white. The rest of you just can't see through the smoke. Chavez is an illiterate leader prone to throwing tantrums akin to Adolf, but home boy makes some valid points. Our "boy" in the White House isn't all that a box of chocolate. Get over yourself America.

The best way to deal with Chavez is energy independence. His lips will stop flapping if there are competing technologies that drive down the price of oil. Brazil has achieved it by converting sugar cane to ethanol. America can do it also. We need national leadership to create strong incentives for green technologies, and disincentives for fossil fuels. California is leading the nation in advancing alternative energy. The federal government has much to do. We need cellulosic ethanol, solar power, wind power, biofuels, hydrogen fusion.
Chavez says "The future belongs to us". If we can go green, he will be wrong.

MEANWHILE IN BRAZIL:

The president did not see any of the protests that have marked his visit during his hourlong motorcade to the depot. But about a half mile from where he spoke, a large white balloon hung in the sky emblazoned with blue letters that said "Bush Out" in both English and Portuguese. The "s" in Bush was replaced by a swastika.

On Thursday, riot police fired tear gas and beat some protesters with batons after more than 6,000 people held a largely peaceful march through the financial district of Sao Paulo.

Yeah, good old Fox News. It's where people living with blinders and ear plugs go to find out how great America and its leaders are. About as "fair and balanced" as a kid with palsy on a balance beam. Most Fox News watchers would be surprised to hear there's a world outside of America that actually has a different opinion. God forbid we listen to anyone else's opinion or try to reason/argue for a point, lest it challenge our feeble minds. Let's revert back to Germany in the late '30s and create a society where everyone thinks alike and worships the same leader. Wouldn't Fox News just love that?! SOOOOOOO much better than publishing an article with a world view to make us THINK about potential flaws in our own government. Think and be free America.

"The future belongs to us. Oh, ho ho! Gringo go home!"
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

Chavez doesn't realize that his political objectives are the exact reason that his people are coming to the U.S.A. Where does he think the initials O.T.M.(Other Than Mexican) come from. The U.S.A. is fast becoming non-gringo and as long as we stay with our form of Government, people will still want to come here.

Englands Tony blair once said..

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out."

Why is Hugo Chavez so popular in his country, while most people around the world and in this country hate Bush??

It is very simple. Chavez speaks the truth about America's sins. All the meddling, coups, support of brutal dictators. Most Americans are clueless about how our nation has bullied others into submission to let our corporate interest exploit the third world. Now our media attempts to demonize Chavez, who is so popular, won his elections by huge margins (unlike Bush), because he cares about his average poor citizens.

Name one thing Bush has done for average hard working families in our country? Trying to kill Social Security doesn't count. Sending middle-class kids off to die in Iraq for his NeoCon vision of regional dominance and control of oil doesn;t count. Neither does massive tax cuts for the Super Wealthy. Nod does an exploding National Debt. Or 'bankruptcy' laws written by the credit card complanies. Or 'drug benefits' where we can't neogitate price with the Pharma Corporations.

I'll take Chavez over this Bush/Cheney *** any day!

What if I tell you christianity is now BANNED in United States. As an atheist I am neither religious-phobic nor dangerous to other people no matter what their personal preference. However I do not subscribe to any program that flies in the face of my belief. Now what do you feel? This country was not a christian country to start with. The Christians slaughter (indians) and dominate their way to the majority in this country. Perhaps everyone should learn from this. Slaughter the christians so this diseased religion can be put to rest.

The constitution guarantees my right to practice any religion of my choosing. And if I want to be a Christian, then you will just have to shut your pie hole and out up with it. And hey, man, Christians don't have an edge on killing people. Killing people is a human pasttime. And the American Indian killed plenty of whites and other memebers of rival Indian tribes. So really, give me a break.
