Us Weekly Reports That Singer Does Not Want To Admit That She Has A Problem

(CBS)  Britney Spears has been in Promises rehab center in Malibu for two weeks now, after two other visits that lasted less than a day.

According to the new issue of Us Weekly she's still not doing very well. Katrina Szish is a contributing editor at the magazine and told The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen about her progress.

"Unfortunately, Britney has managed to stay in rehab but she's not been an ideal patient. She's been talking on her cell phone too often. She's been reprimanded for that. She's actually ducked out of rehab to go shopping for several hours."

Spears is not on complete lockdown at the facility, but leaving the premises to go shopping is not something the center would endorse, said Szish.

She said that the well-known facility has a price tag of $48,000 a month and that other celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Charlie Sheen and Matthew Perry have spent time there.

"It requires two daily counseling sessions," Szish explained. "But there are also, of course, there's a beautician, there are massages, it definitely does have the luxury components. But it does require that participants enter a 12-step program."

Sources tell Us Weekly that the pop star is having a hard time admitting she has a problem.

"She believes she's suffering from post-partum depression and she does not have a substance abuse problem," Szish said.

If Spears is correct, and she is suffering from post-partum depression, is Promises the right place for her?

"I think if Britney is anywhere with doctors, physicians with anyone who is going to help her get her mental state in order — which obviously it hasn't been — I think that can definitely help," said Szish. "The doctors there do say that they are shocked by what bad shape she is in. So the people at the clinic do seem to believe she's in the right place."

Spears' two young children (Sean Preston, 18 months, and Jayden James, 6 months) are being cared for by her estranged husband, Kevin Federline, and the singer's mom.

"The two of them have actually sort of become fast friends during this ordeal," said Szish. "Both of them seem to have joined together to try to help Britney."

Federline spent time in Las Vegas over the weekend with the children, and was reportedly on his best behavior when he hosted an event Mirage Hotel & Casino.

The children have been to Promises to see their mother.

"About a week or so ago, Britney did have a visit with her kids," said Szish. "Kevin and her mom, Lynn, brought the kids to the facility. And reports say she was just thrilled to see them. We're hearing that really Britney is doing this for her kids, is a bit angry because she felt she was pushed into it, forced into it by her manager and her family. And is a little bit resentful of the fact that she is in this facility. But knows she has to do something for her kids."

In the midst of Spears' troubles, Federline has stood by his estranged wife and canceled hearings regarding the custody of their children, Szish said.

"Nothing has been moving forward," she said. "There have been hearings that have been scheduled. Kevin has canceled them. Surprisingly, Kevin has really come through on this, showing that he still seems to love Britney. Sources do say he wants to get back together. He really has been 100 percent on her side. So, this could be very interesting."

Could they be headed toward reconciliation?

"I don't know that Britney is really up for anything at this point. I think she just is really focused on wanting to have her children in her life. But Kevin is really been a rock for her, as has her mother. But Britney's priority is her kids."

Why does our society today confuse pure fact with half fiction? Doesn't anyone realize that the tabloids tell you what they want you to hear? How frustating would it be if your face was on every tabloid in the world judging you on the surface and telling the world what "their creation of you," and printing it as fact? Everyone needs to remember that the media is driven by what sells their magazines. No matter if the stories are fact, or half fiction. How do we know how Britney treats her children? Are we in her home? Are we there to know her feelings and troubles? I would like to point out that Britney took her first child everywhere with her! Everywhere! Yet, the poporotzie was everywhere with her also. How would any mother feel if their child was constintaly be terroized by flashing bulbs and crowds of disrespectful people that only have one agenda, "money?" Do the tabloids print pictures of the love and care that Britney takes of her children? No, because that wouldn't juicy enough to make the public buy a magazine. However, as soon as she almost drops her child, on accident, she is judged and that is the next BIG TABLOID STORY. Britney was driving with her son on her lap. How do we know that she wasn't trying to escape with her son from the overwhelming media exposure that she has to put up with everyday? It frustates me that people don't look at the media for what it is. Money! Money! Money! Even at the expense of someone else's sanity.

I feel so degenerate for even posting but I feel the urge, because noone seems to realize she's a MOTHER. Don't you think that the kids should come first! She has never treated them with maternal love (as far as I have seen). Everyone seems OBSESSED with the 'Britney label' but has very little impathy for the children from this woman. What has American succumbed to (especially the young women)? This is not how to parent. Please stop glorifying young women who don't know themselves. They are created, literally. That it why it's call "show"-BUSINESS.

Such a beautiful young woman and so many critics! No wonder she is going out of her mind. Let's keep in mind that she has grown up in the lime light and not to mention every tabloid on the planet. Who in their right mind could take the whole world criticizing their every move. I feel very badly for this young woman that has seem to lose her way. And why would she know her way, when everyone tells her how to act, how to look, who to date, who to marry, who not to marry. She has been told that she is a bad mom, yet what mother is perfect? What mother hasn't lost their balance carring their child and almost fell. Hell, my own parents drove a car with me setting on their lap. (This was before the car seat law, but still.) Give this poor girl a break. I am not a professional, but it seems to me that Britney has really lost herself with the fame game. In fact, seeing that she started her road to fame so early in her life, how could she possibly even know who she really is with all the *** that she has to deal with on a daily basis. The world is to consumed with what is going on in the rich and famous live only because they have either to boring of lives themselves, or their lives are in shambles and don't want to take a look at their own ***. We are humans, and humans are all flawed with cracks. It is only those cracks that the sunshine can shine through. I say, hang in there Britney! I have never been a fan, but I am now.

I've watch Judge Judy many times. And I notice whenever she wants to check someone for drugs,she will ask for a hair sample. You the young people today are getting very smart,let's hope the hair cut wasn't because she might have gotten tested for drugs. It makes you wonder,if today young people get there hair cut before seeing a judge,or before going to a hehab,maybe just maybe,it might be because of drugs.And the hair can tell how long ones been on drugs,and maybe what kind of drugs. Sure took her long enough to claim Post-partum - I guess going clubbing every night was part of the post-partum? Sounds to me like she was just having a good time and has made a complete a-- out of herself. Perhaps she should give some thought to the so called friends she is hanging out with. Children of celebrities have a rough road to tow and don't even know it. We have veritably smooth childhoods, being in the viewing public, but those little babies have a WHOLE lot of *** to put up with, be in from Brittany or Kevin, who, in my opinion are still young adults themselves. Does everyone here live in a utopian world and think that K-Fed really is a changed man, a rock, a caring father, and truly wants to just be there for his x-wife and kids?! I don't think so. Hello people! What about the $$$!? Last time I checked, his finances as of late have been far from pretty. Given a chance to get back together with Britney, and swindle some more money from her gazillion dollar empire, do you honestly think that he would be doing it for any other reason? Sounds like a combination of post-partum depression and drug use. She really needs to get her act together and if that's what she's doing, then good for her. I'm not a K-fed fan, but he really impresses me with what a class act he's turned out to be during this mess. Other guys would have used it against her and turned their backs and run. He's showing a side that I'll bet a lot of people didn't know he had, maybe not even Britney. This is a family and families deserve the chance to be together. If they can work this stuff out, then that's for the best.
