Darfur Tops U.S. Human Rights Abuse List

Ahead of those talks, expected to focus in part on the deployment of a hybrid United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force to Darfur, the State Department also noted that Sudan has continued to give mixed signals about its acceptance of the mission.

In addition to the crisis in Darfur, Tuesday's report said human rights conditions worsened in Afghanistan and Iraq, despite U.S.-led military and civilian efforts to combat extremists in both countries.

In Iraq, where deadly attacks have surged despite the formation of a democratically elected government following the ouster of Saddam Hussein, "both deepening sectarian violence and acts of terrorism seriously undercut human rights and democratic progress in 2006," it said.

The government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki "was unable to diminish these violent attacks," despite enhanced security steps taken after the Feb. 22, 2006, bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra that provoked a major rise in Sunni-Shiite attacks.

The report said the Iraqi defense and interior ministries were also responsible for "serious" human rights violations, including severe beatings, electrocutions and sexual assaults of detainees.

The Afghan government has made "important" progress on the human rights front, but its performance "remained poor" last year, the report said, attributing lapses to a weak central administration, abuses by authorities, and Taliban and Al Qaeda insurgents.

It said there were persistent reports of "politically motivated or extrajudicial killings by the government or its agents" in addition to atrocities carried out by insurgents who killed more than 1,400 civilians in suicide attacks, roadside bombings and assassinations.

Also cited for democratic backsliding were U.S. allies Pakistan and Egypt, along with Belarus, China, Eritrea, Iran, Lebanon, Russia, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe, where governments cracked down on the rights of citizens or failed to protect them from abuses.

Russia was criticized for its poor rights record in Chechnya as well as less than thorough probes of suspected contract killings of government foes, including reform minded officials and journalists.

The report noted failures in Fiji and Thailand, where coups brought down democratically elected governments in 2006, and lambasted U.S. foes Cuba, Myanmar and North Korea for systematic violations of basic human rights.

Is Condizzy not the most ugliest woman on earth?

Oh I don't know about that. Bush seems to like her, though of course have you ever taken a really good look at Laura? She's a classic plastic republican robot Stepford wife. I swear republicans run them off in a factory somewhere and issue them out to young politicians in their party at the start of their careers. They're guaranteed to never have an original thought, never stop with the ignorant looking vacant smile and to always stand by their man while looking adoringly up at him during public appearances. In private you can just switch them off and put them in a closet or use them as a *** doll. Either way they'll not make a sound or disturb you in any manner.

Is Condizzy not the most ugliest woman on earth? She looks like one of those sketches that an artist makes of you on a Las Vegas strip with a big wide face and small body except she is the real thing. She just looks like a beast in a weird sort of way, she probably smells gamey too.

Come on Condi! Surely you can fudge the numbers a bit to move your boyfriend up to the top of the list or he might stop inviting you to those long 3 day "conference" weekends at Camp David!

So where does Bush's mistress rank the US on human rights abuses? Considering Gitmo, admitted "black" prison camps around the world and administration approved (and encouraged) torture surely we made the top ten at least! Come on Bush! Slaughter and torture a few thousand more or you won't be able to even top this list! Have Cheney get out the rack and whips and chains (certainly he must have a good supply of them at home for "personal" use). America should be 2nd to none, even in being the worst abusive bully and human rights abusers in the world!

You make me so fu*cking "proud" to be an American you scum bucket!

fascist nazi islamic muslims global jihad....

Islamic worldview and the reason why it becomes a calamity in the 21st century

The Islamic world view of converting the entire human species to Islam at the pain of death is not something novel. It has existed for 1400 years since this cult of death and destruction was founded by Mohammed-ibn-abdallah, the nefarious bandit and murderer in the 7th century in Mecca. What makes this world view a calamity is the fact that Muslim have started acquiring WMD capability off late. While all these centuries, they could carry on with their murder and mayhem only with swords from the 7th century up to the 16th century. So they could be defeated by those who could wield swords better and more so by those who in addition to this managed to recognize the mortal threat to all non-Islamic civilizations that Muslims represented. There have not been very many on this planet who could see through the murderous message of the Quran, that the Muslims robotically believe is the message from some god, to be divinely followed by placing their swords on the necks of all their defeated victims and giving them the choice Islam or death.
