Darfur Tops U.S. Human Rights Abuse List

African Genocide Cited By State Department As World's Worst Human Rights Abuse Last Year

(AP)  The ongoing genocide in Sudan's Darfur region was the world's worst human rights abuse last year, the United States said Tuesday in a report concluding that freedoms have eroded elsewhere, including fledgling U.S.-backed democracies in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"Too often in the past year we received painful reminders that human rights, though self-evident, are not self-enforcing," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in presenting the State Department's annual survey of human rights practices.

"We are recommitting ourselves to call every government to account that still treats the basic rights of its citizens as options," Rice said, adding that the United States does not hold itself out as perfect in that regard.

The report cited progress in some countries but stressed a series of "sobering realities" reflecting a significant deterioration in conditions in some of the world's most populous states like China and Russia. The United States has joined both of those countries in diplomatic efforts to resolve nuclear confrontations with Iran and North Korea.

"Genocide was the most sobering reality of all," it said in the 2006 "Country Reports on Human Rights Practices," noting that mass killings continued to "ravage" Darfur nearly 60 years after the world vowed "Never again!" following the Holocaust.

Just days before senior U.S. diplomats expect to meet Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum, the State Department blamed the Sudanese military and proxy militia for the genocide in Darfur. More that 200,000 have died and an estimated 2.5 million have been displaced in the western Sudan region during four years of war and upheaval.

"The Sudanese government and government-backed janjaweed militia bear responsibility for the genocide in Darfur," the report said. The report said atrocities continue, including some committed by indigenous rebels.

"All parties to the conflagration committed serious abuses, including widespread killing of civilians, rape as a tool of war, systematic torture, robbery and recruitment of child soldiers," the report said.

Washington first declared the situation in Darfur a "genocide" in 2004 when then-Secretary of State Colin Powell used the word in congressional testimony. But other countries and the United Nations have refrained from using the word, and some U.S. officials have recently toned down such language.

Tuesday's blunt criticism, particularly of Khartoum, comes two days before U.S. special envoy for Sudan Andrew Natsios is to see al-Bashir and a week before Assistant Secretary of State Barry Lowenkron plans to meet the Sudanese president.

fascist nazi islamic muslims global jihad....

Islamic worldview and the reason why it becomes a calamity in the 21st century

The Islamic world view of converting the entire human species to Islam at the pain of death is not something novel. It has existed for 1400 years since this cult of death and destruction was founded by Mohammed-ibn-abdallah, the nefarious bandit and murderer in the 7th century in Mecca. What makes this world view a calamity is the fact that Muslim have started acquiring WMD capability off late. While all these centuries, they could carry on with their murder and mayhem only with swords from the 7th century up to the 16th century. So they could be defeated by those who could wield swords better and more so by those who in addition to this managed to recognize the mortal threat to all non-Islamic civilizations that Muslims represented. There have not been very many on this planet who could see through the murderous message of the Quran, that the Muslims robotically believe is the message from some god, to be divinely followed by placing their swords on the necks of all their defeated victims and giving them the choice Islam or death.

So where does Bush's mistress rank the US on human rights abuses? Considering Gitmo, admitted "black" prison camps around the world and administration approved (and encouraged) torture surely we made the top ten at least! Come on Bush! Slaughter and torture a few thousand more or you won't be able to even top this list! Have Cheney get out the rack and whips and chains (certainly he must have a good supply of them at home for "personal" use). America should be 2nd to none, even in being the worst abusive bully and human rights abusers in the world!

You make me so fu*cking "proud" to be an American you scum bucket!

Come on Condi! Surely you can fudge the numbers a bit to move your boyfriend up to the top of the list or he might stop inviting you to those long 3 day "conference" weekends at Camp David!

Is Condizzy not the most ugliest woman on earth? She looks like one of those sketches that an artist makes of you on a Las Vegas strip with a big wide face and small body except she is the real thing. She just looks like a beast in a weird sort of way, she probably smells gamey too.

Oh I don't know about that. Bush seems to like her, though of course have you ever taken a really good look at Laura? She's a classic plastic republican robot Stepford wife. I swear republicans run them off in a factory somewhere and issue them out to young politicians in their party at the start of their careers. They're guaranteed to never have an original thought, never stop with the ignorant looking vacant smile and to always stand by their man while looking adoringly up at him during public appearances. In private you can just switch them off and put them in a closet or use them as a *** doll. Either way they'll not make a sound or disturb you in any manner.
