"Wild Hogs" Calls In The Crowds
A lot can happen on the road to nowhere, or so they say, in the biker buddy comedy "Wild Hogs," with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy as four middle-aged guys in search of something – including a good time.
Roaring to the champion spot in its first weekend in the theaters, the Disney flick took in $38 million - leaving the competition far behind in the dust.
"Wild Hogs" is also the largest-ever debut for a film starring Travolta.
2 No other movie came even close to the cash hauled in by "Wild Hogs," which appears to take some of its inspiration from the Billy Crystal-Daniel Stern-Bruno Kirby-Jack Palance male bonding hit of 16 years ago, "City Slickers."
Second on the weekend box office list was the thriller "Zodiac" and another film with a motorcycle theme, although a bit darker - Nicolas Cage's "Ghost Rider" - fell to third place in its third week of release.
3 Here are the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S..and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC:
1. "Wild Hogs," $38 million.
2. "Zodiac," $13.1 million.
3. "Ghost Rider," $11.5 million.
